SIX FEET UNDER announce new drummer

May 31st, 2013
Chris Barnes - Six Feet Under

Chris Barnes – Six Feet Under

SIX FEET UNDER have parted ways with drummer Kevin Talley. However, the transition for the new drummer will be near-seemless, as he is a former band member of bassist Jeff Hughell. Marco Pitruzzella has officially joined the ranks of SIX FEET UNDER and will make his debut appearance with the band this Saturday in Memphis, TN at Scion Rock Fest! For info on the fest, including the full line-up, visit scionav.com.

Chris Barnes discusses the lineup change: “I’m proud to announce a new addition to the ranks of Six Feet Under. Replacing drummer Kevin Talley is our new friend and cohort, Marco Pitruzzella (http://youtu.be/KVs_HBoxZds). Marco has worked with Jeff Hughell in their former band, Brain Drill, and is such an amazing talented and great guy. I’m very excited having him in the band and can’t wait to take the stage with Marco this Saturday in Memphis for Scion Rock Fest!

“It was good working with Kevin Talley for the past couple of years, but we are very ready and extremely focused on moving the band forward with a new, more stable and permanent lineup for writing as well as touring. Be prepared to be shredded! See you all soon!”

In other news, Metal Blade Europe has announced that Unborn will now be released as an exclusive European box set edition which will include the limited Digipak of Unborn and a bonus track entitled Illusions. Additionally the box will feature a poster, a patch, two pins and a sticker plus enough space for last year’s Undead album! The bonus track will be featured on the vinyl version of the album as well.

In November of 2010 when vocalist and founding member Chris Barnes first started to get the idea of working with new writers for SIX FEET UNDER’s next release, he contacted Rob Arnold, Jari Laine, and Ben Savage to share in the writing process. After just two years of writing and recording 20 plus tracks, and releasing Undead in May of 2012, SIX FEET UNDER are now proud to unveil Undead’s demented fraternal twin…

“The journey to create, write, and record Undead and Unborn has been the most challenging and exciting musical endeavor and process I have ever been involved with,” expresses vocalist and founder Chris Barnes. “Working with all these amazing writers and musicians like Ben Savage (Whitechapel) on songs like Neuro Osmosis and Fragment are some of the most dynamic, beautiful, and brutal songs I’ve ever had the pleasure of putting lyrics to.” Barnes continues, “I believe Ben is a true innovator of the death metal genre. It was also a lot of fun working Jari Laine from Torture Killer again. We wrote a great album together a few years back called Swarm! –one of my favorite releases I’ve been involved with– and Jari is someone who I have really wanted to work with again ever since. I wanted to revisit collaborating with Jari because of how well we work together; proof of that on Unborn are the hook heavy sounds of songs like Zombie Blood Curse and Incision.”

Undead proved to be one of SIX FEET UNDER’s most critically acclaimed albums to date, and with a revamped and tour-hardened lineup rounded out by: guitarist Ola Englund, drummer Kevin Talley, bassist Jeff Hughell, and long-time guitarist Steve Swanson, Unborn promises to elevate the band to even loftier heights.

SIX FEET UNDER Welcome New Guitarist; Band To Embark Upon 18 Nights Of Blood Tour Next Month

May 23rd, 2012

Death metal ministers SIX FEET UNDER today announce the addition of rhythm guitarist Ola Englund to their legendary ranks. Englund, who will make his first official appearance with the band on the 18 Nights Of Blood Tour set to commence next month, takes the place of Rob Arnold.

Comments founding vocalist Chris Barnes of the new recruit:  “Ola is an amazing guitarist and was chosen for his superlative technique and style of playing. We believe he will be the perfect complement to Steve Swanson, and the devastating rhythm section that is Talley/Hughell. Steve, Kevin, Jeff and myself are so looking forward to Ola’s entrance into the band upon the release of Undead and the commencement of our first tour next month with Dying Fetus and Revocation. We can’t wait for you to witness the new killing machine that is SIX FEET UNDER! Ola takes over duties for our good friend and death metal warrior Rob Arnold who will be retiring from touring but will remain a central writing partner and fellow collaborator on future SFU releases. We are all sad to not have Rob on the road with us, but are confidant and 110% psyched that Ola is now within the ranks of the Undead and will be ready to lay waste to every stop along the way! Hails!”

Adds Englund: “When I got the call from Chris, it felt unreal; first thing that popped up in my head was, ‘why the hell did he want me — the total gear nerd from Sweden — to join his awesome band? To be able to share the stage with one of the biggest icons in death metal and the other killer musicians in SFU is a complete honor and a dream come true for me. I couldn’t be happier about the situation! Also the new album blew my mind the first time I heard it, it’s intense as hell, but still has the riffs and the grooves that SIX FEET UNDER swears by. Fans are going to love it! I’m looking forward to kick some serious ass together with Chris, Kevin, Steve and Jeff! See you on tour!”

Check out video footage documenting Englund’s guitar skills at THIS LOCATION.

Undead was officially released in North America today via Metal Blade Records. Called “the best thing SFU have recorded since Maximum Violence,” in a recent 8/10 review by Decibel Magazine, the record was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver), mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy) and features the recording line up of Barnes alongside guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson (ex-Massacre), bassist Jeff Hughell (ex-Brain Drill, ex-Vile), and drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira).

To celebrate its release SIX FEET UNDER will slaughter souls on a near three-week run of live ceremonies this June. The 18 Nights Of Blood Tour will begin in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8. Support will be provided by Dying Fetus and Revocation.

SIX FEET UNDER: Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel Interviews Vocalist Chris Barnes; Video Footage Posted
Today Metal Blade TV airs an exclusive interview with SIX FEET UNDER front man/death metal veteran Chris Barnes as conducted by Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel. The clip comes in anticipation of the band’s forthcoming new full-length, Undead. With an updated lineup featuring Barnes alongside guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson (ex-Massacre), bassist Jeff Hughell (ex-Brain Drill, ex-Vile), and drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Chimaira), Undead finds the band revitalized and spewing forth some of their most uncompromising, provocative and plainly scathing tunes of their career. Undead was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver), mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy), at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida and is scheduled for North American release on May 22, 2012 through Metal Blade Records.

To check out the interview, as well as first single, “Formaldehyde,” go to THIS LOCATION.

In conjunction with the release of Undead, SIX FEET UNDER will demolish the masses on a near three-week run of live rituals this June. Dubbed the 18 Nights Of Blood Tour, the journey will begin in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8. Support will be provided by Dying Fetus and Revocation. Comments Barnes: “We want to get out there and pretty much destroy. We want to play to as many people as possible, and show all of the fans out there the new songs, and leave nothing but a trail of blood in our wake. We’re hoping that whoever makes body bags are upping their output, because after this record comes out there’ll be a lot of decomposing bodies out there!

SIX FEET UNDER Unveil First Single From Forthcoming Studio Offering Cover Art + Track Listing Revealed

April 9th, 2012

Legendary death metal legion SIX FEET UNDER today unveil the first single from forthcoming studio offering, Undead. Slated for North American release on May 22, 2012 through Metal Blade Records, the 12-track recording was produced by Mark Lewis (Deicide, Devildriver) and mixed by Jason Suecof (Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy), at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida.

Led by the inimitable Chris Barnes, possessor of one of the most dominant and instantly recognizable voices of the death metal genre, Undead offers up an overhauled lineup. Now featuring Barnes alongside new guitarist Rob Arnold (ex- Chimaira), longtime guitarist Steve Swanson, new bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Kevin Talley, whose history blasting for Dying Fetus, Misery Index, and Chimaira speaks for itself, SIX FEET UNDER 2012 finds the band reinvigorated and churning out some of the most visceral, in-your-face, and downright horrifying tunes in their renowned discography of brutality both, lyrically and musically.

Comments vocalist/death metal ambassador Chris Barnes of the recording: “I’m in pretty much the best headspace I’ve been in since myself and [former guitarist] Allen West started this band in 1993. I’m super excited about the new record. It’s a rejuvenation; it’s a rebirth of SIX FEET UNDER, and fans will definitely latch on to my excitement and how focused I am in the lyrics I’ve written… The hypocrisies of daily life, things that affect us that spawn aggression, loneliness, sadness, there’s a lot of emotions going on across the record, and I guess that the dark horror that humans cause is my niche.”

Gore your ears to the violent sounds of “Formaldehyde” below:

Undead Track Listing:
01. Frozen At the Moment of Death
02. Formaldehyde
03. 18 Days
04. Molest Dead
05. Blood On My Hands
06. Missing Victims
07. Reckless
08. Near Death Experience
09. The Scar

SIX FEET UNDER announce new bassist!

February 14th, 2012

Jeff Hughell, former bassist for Brain Drill & Vile, has been chosen as new SFU bassist!

Within days of announcing the departure of Matt DeVries, SIX FEET UNDER has locked in the latest addition to the bands already heavy and extremely talented lineup. Seven-string bassist Jeff Hughell, formally of the Santa Cruz California technical death metal band Brain Drill and Concord California death metal band Vile, will be joining the ranks as the new SIX FEET UNDER bassist. Check out a video of Jeff shredding on his bass:

Vocalist Chris Barnes comments; “Six Feet Under is proud to announce our new member, bass player Jeff Hughell. He’s an amazing musician and I have been a fan of his work since first hearing Brain Drill a few years back. We feel with the addition of Jeff, all the puzzle pieces are in place and the killing machine known as Six Feet Under is now a true death metal force to be reckoned with! Prepare to be toe tagged and body bagged.”

Jeff Hughell adds; “I am honored to be the newest edition to the mighty Six Feet Under. This band is now a well oiled killing machine with Kevin Talley and my self as the rhythm section, Steve Swanson and Rob Arnold crushing guitars, and of course the man himself Chris Barnes killing it on vocals. The new material is the heaviest Six Feet Under songs I have ever heard and I can’t wait for the world to get their faces melted clean off by it. I would like to thank Mike Faley, Kelli Malella and the whole Six Feet Under family for thinking of me. It’s going to be one hell of a ride!”

Stay tuned to www.SFU420.com, www.Facebook.com/SixFeetUnder, and www.MetalBlade.com for album news and tour dates.
