Cavalera Conspiracy

Cavalera Conspiracy

New York, NY: Cavalera Conspiracy announced today the title of their second album, Blunt Force Trauma. The band released Inflikted in 2008 to much critical and fan acclaim. The album was a momentous occasion in the heavy metal universe, as it reunited brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera for the first time since Max left Sepultura in 1996.

The Brothers Cavalera co-founded Sepultura, the Brazilian metal band that redefined and established the genre outside of the US and Europe. After Max exited the band, there was a rift between himself and his brother, one that was eventually repaired through the redemptive power of music. Some time had passed and Max and Iggor were unable to resist the musical pull in their magnetic fields and their musical collaboration was renewed. The duo are back for round two with Cavalera Conspiracy.

Cavalera Conspiracy’s lineup is filled out by guitarist Marc Rizzo, who plays with Max in Soulfly, and bassist Johnny Chow.

Blunt Force Trauma is due out in March via Roadrunner Records. The track listing is below:

1. Warlord
2. Torture
3. Lynch Mob
4. Killing Inside
5. Thrasher
6. I Speak Hate
7 . Target
8. Genghis Khan
9. Burn Waco
10. Rasputin
11. Blunt Force Trauma

Cavalera Conspiracy appeared on the cover of Metal Edge in an homage to The Blues Brothers, and the album was one of the most spun platters on Sirius’ Liquid Metal/Hard Attack channel that year. Inflikted was described as “gobsmackingly violent” and Outburn mused, “If only all family reunions could be this awesome!”

Below is a further sampling of what the press had to say about Cavalera Conspiracy and Inflikted:

“The brothers who formed Sepultura, putting Brazil on the global metal map in the process, have reunited-personally and professionally-after more than a decade of acrimony, and their new album is a ferocious homecoming indeed.” —Revolver, May 2008

“The fruit of their labor, Inflikted, is an explosive flashback to the remorseless thrash and primal groove-metal Sepultura created with 1991’s Arise and 1993’s Chaos A.D. Although the songs were arranged and recorded quickly, Inflikted sounds neither hastily executed nor incomplete. There’s an almost telekinetic connection between Max’s riffing and Iggor’s drumming-the kind of chemistry that comes only from musicians who learned to play together and honed their craft through years of studio sessions and live shows.” —Artist Direct

“From straightforward pummeling death metal to more complex and technical songs, Cavalera Conspiracy hits on all cylinders.” —

“For metalheads far and wide, it’s nice knowing the Cavaleras are tight again and sounding perhaps better than ever on Inflikted.” —MTV News, April 2008

Inflikted combines the best elements of Soulfly and Sepultura. There’s lots of tribal drum beats, and the guitars are fast ‘n thrashy.” —Hit Parader, March/April 2008

“The band mixes the old with the new to create something fresh.” —My City

“Cavalera Conspiracy is not a mercy project, nor is it about cashing in. It’s about bringing the metal back.” —Ink

“No doubt this will be remembered as one of the most important heavy music releases of 2008, and quite possibly ever.” —ARTIST direct

“Given Inflikted’s overall high standards, the Cavalera Conspiracy may be around for a while.” —All Music

Chaosfear – The Drummer Danilo de Freitas

April 27th, 2007

ChaosFear hailing from Brazil delivers highly skilled and aggressive thrash metal to the bone. Even though the whole band is pretty new on the metal map, the whole trio has gained experience by playing in other local Brazilian bands. The demo debut already proved the trio’s skills to create asskicking and whipping thrash.

The Brazilians’ debut album ONE STEP BEHIND ANGER will be re-released with extra bonus material added. The band’s drummer Danilo de Freitas explains a little bit more about the upcoming album and some historical aspects of ChaosFear.

Paulo Xisto Pinto Junior – Basist of Sepultura

May 3rd, 2006

Paulo Xisto Pinto Junior of SEPULTURA

Interview, live & backstage pictures by Luxi Lahtinen

In March 15th 2006, the highly popular Swedish melo-metallers, In Flames and Brazilian metallers Sepultura, arrived in Helsinki under the moniker "Tuska Winter War" – bringing over 1000 fans of both bands to the House of Culture, Helsinki. A bit of an odd thing was, at least in my opinion, that it wasnt In Flames supporting Sepultura, but Sepultura supporting In Flames this time around. So strange is the world sometimes…

I got an opportunity to meet Paulo, the bass player of Sepultura approx. 5 hours before the bands showtime – and we not only concentrated talking about the bands current European tour, Sepulturas new album DANTE XXI, etc. but also got kinda excited over talking about the past times; one special bass guitar, how the times have changed in general, and how some (poor) people have gained some weight and grown old over the years – and became just looking a bit different. A simple and straight bullshitting is such jolly good fun from time to time, whatever excuse you may have to do so.

News or not, but Sepultura is still going strong these days – just no matter what people may think of them. If you think otherwise, well, lets give Paulo a chance to prove you completely wrong and straighten out a few facts via this interview…

Igor Cavalera & Derrick Green of Sepultura

August 23rd, 2005

Igor Cavalera & Derrick Green of Sepultura
Interviewed in Jan. 1999 by David Lee

SEPULTURA are experiencing both the best and worst of times all in the same instant.  The departure of founder member, lead vocalist and brother, Max Cavalera, seemed to be the end of one of metal’s heaviest bands, that is until the survival instincts of the remaining three members took over.  A new vocalist was found and work continued on a new album.  This is usually where most bands change direction, not the case with SEPULTURA, not in the least.   “AGAINST” sounds and feels exactly like  SEPULTURA records have always sounded and felt.  The record is harsh, brutal and tribal yet maintains a lyrical intelligence that your average death metal band may be able to emulate but could never produce themselves. Along with American vocalist, Derrick Green, the remaining members of SEPULTURA have created one of their finest records which includes the bonus feature of having a track co-written by METALLICA’s Jason Newsted.  What exactly will happen next for this now international metal unit is a question that can only be answered with time but one thing is certain, there is a renewed strength and a feeling of power surrounding the band that is infectious. One listen to “AGAINST” and you will be convinced that SEPULTURA is here to stay. I had the chance to speak with both Igor Cavalera and Derrick Green on the phone from New York.
