For a band more used to playing alongside post-rock mega bands Deafhaven and Chelsea Wolf, the arrival of Russian Circles at the Scala for one night only was certainly not an experience to be missed.

Russian Circles at the Scala Preview

June 23rd, 2015
Russian Circles

Russian Circles

Over the past decade, Russian Circles have rapidly established themselves as one of the brightest bands on the post-metal scene. The Chicago based trio has already racked up some serious touring notches with appearances at both Roadburn and Arctangent, alongside recent tours with Deafhaven and Chelsea Wolfe. Returning to London after a sold-out show in the Islington Assembly Hall earlier in the year, Russian Circles hit the Scala on the 23rd June. Having been a couple of years since their latest album Memorial, the show is likely to contain a range of songs from across the 5 albums and if April’s show is anything to go by we’re likely to see a killer set, which included favourites such as ‘Death Rides a Horse,’ ‘Mlàdek’ and ‘Station.’ Fans of Pelican, Cult of Luna and Isis would be crazy to miss out on this opportunity. Russian Circles will be joined by alternative country band Wovenhand led by David Edwards of 16 Horsepowers.

Tickets for the night are £20 and can be purchased via this link

It has been nearly two years since the Norwegian black metal pioneers, Satyricon, last touched British soil to perform and no new album has been released since then. This tour marks the release of the DVD Live at the Opera which proves to be a plus as the set list wander around most goodies from the band’s long career.

The sun setting over London is always a pretty sight to behold as the salmon pink sky glistens the Scala on this spring day, it is a stark contrast to the hubbub and pure excitement that will be contained in its walls tonight. This evening is dedicated to Therapy? Who will be performing the entirety of ”Troublegum” with support from Lonely the brave, its one set for excitement and nostalgia.

MY RUIN @ Scala, Kings Cross, London

February 11th, 2012

My Ruin @ Scala, Kings Cross, London

21st January 2012

Review by Alan Hicks

The music industry is well known to be a minefield for bands, many splitting at any one of the many obstacles that confront an act on its journey from local pubs to larger venues.

Some artists seem to have the proverbial kitchen sink thrown at them and My Ruin have definitely had their fare share of problems, the latest being a record label promising the earth but delivering less than nothing.

My Ruin and front woman Tairrie B in particular are made of sterner stuff than most though, meaning they climb back on the saddle and try even harder, which is good news for us on this particular night, the second date of a UK tour.
