Not only that but we will arrange either an exclusive The Rock ‘N’ Roll Experience-meet-and-greet with the entire band where you can ask them anything you have been dying to ask them, get your autographs and take loads of your own pictures, close-up and personal. Or we will arrange that you will have a once-in-a-lifetime-treat, your own exclusive meal with the band in a local restaurant or backstage. (the meet-and-greet or meal will be confirmed in advance, so you will know which of these fantastic offers are available)

In addition you will receive your own collectable laminated exclusive The Rock ‘N’ Roll Experience-tourpass. Biff Byford – “I Don’t Know If We Are Making Another SAXON Album”

January 27th, 2013

saxon10British metal icon Biff Byford managed to shock Greece’s Rock Pages during a recent interview expressing his doubts about whether SAXON are going to release another album after this year’s Sacrifice.

An excerpt follows:

Biff Byford: “I don’t know if we are making another Saxon album… we’ll see how that goes. I might do a solo project next year maybe, or a different project maybe, I don’t know. I’d like to write an album that is more like ‘747’, ‘Wheels Of Steel’, ‘And The Bands Played On’… I might do that next. Not next year, maybe the year after…” So, you mean that this might be the last Saxon album?

Biff Byford: “I don’t think this is the last Saxon album, I think that we are allowed to a bit of a break up on this tour. We will be touring all year so we’ll see how it goes after the tour…” I’m asking you this because I heard you saying that on a French webTV interview…

Biff Byford: “Well, nobody can tell really, doesn’t he? It depends on the band. All the band has to be into it, yeah? All the band has to be committed and passionate about the project, you know, some people might not want to make a new album again next year, they might want to have a rest… I don’t rest, that’s the thing! Me and Lemmy are full on all the time!”

The entire interview will be online soon!

The silver eagle has finally landed for audiences worldwide!

After enjoying a limited “Fan Club Only” UK release, Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie, Saxon’s wonderfully unfiltered and intimate account of their ascent to the upper echalons of heavy metal, will finally enjoy an international release this December. The double-disc set features the soon-to-be-celebrated story of Saxon, while the second disc is packed with bonus features including a full-length performance (on St. George’s Day) from April 23rd, 2008. Rivetingly honest, and including the frank memories of every musician who has played in the band, Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie pieces together the earliest incarnations of Saxon, from frontman Biff Byford’s teenage years in the coalmines of Yorkshire and Son Of A Bitch (the first incarnation of Saxon) all the way through to top 10 hits and world tours. “Our music was more sort of machinery banging together, wheels turning, machines making noise,” says Biff of those early, industrial days, “It’s what Heavy Metal is all about. Heavy Metal is all about hard, big sounds bashing your skull in. I used to work in factories where big machinery made lot of noise and I used to sing along to the noises they made.”

It is a documentary which looks for all the world as though it’s a superbly crafted script, as much a tale of pure, honest, working class triumph as just another Rock n’ Roll story. Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie shows every facet of Saxon on their journey without once diluting the true characters who make up the band. “We basically played every dump and shithole that there is in England over a period, probably just short of eight years,” laughs Biff. “You know classic cliché of transit van, up and down and we used to play more or less every night. One gig might be a good paying gig and the other one might be no money or ten quid but it was an obsession, you had to play every day.” These wonderfully naïve young men sought nothing more than a great gig, a good time and maybe a nice girl, before suddenly finding themselves on tour in the US, exposed to the sorts of things which (quite frankly) Barnsley simply didn’t offer in 1980. And from that point, Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie, takes the viewer on a journey on a Rock n’ Roller of a journey encompassing it all from triumphs to tears to tea-bags and beyond.

Nothing is forsaken and nothing skipped. Despite the fact that to this day there remain problems between the Byford/Quinn and Oliver/Dawson parties, everyone tells the full unedited Saxon story with heartfelt honesty and integrity.

“We do have a great legacy,” says Byford, “whether you joined the band in 1994 or (as) an original member. There’s a legacy there and I’ve tried hard to not let people demean it and to spoil it and you have to look after that thing that is Saxon.”

Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie will entertain, engage and charm fans and non-fans alike. That’s a truth as honest as the film itself…

Saxon – “We have almost finished the new album”

October 16th, 2012

The below update was posted by Saxon today:
Saxon has never been a lazy band and especially this year we have been extremely busy! After we played several festivals all across Europe and some great gigs together with Judas Priest and the very first Hamburg Metal Days – we have almost finished the new album. The mix is done and the mastering is almost finished. We have guys who are right now putting the last details together and working bits and pieces out for the artwork. Watch out for further news releases like album cover, track list, some more behind the scenes info etc.

Since most of album production work is done, the band can’t keep their feet still and have decided to play a very short Christmas run of 3 dates:

07.12.2012 CH Bern – Metal Christmas Festival
08.12.2012 NL Haarlem – Patronaat
09.12.2012 NL Roermund – ECI

We are looking forward to sharing the stage in Switzerland with our mates from Motörhead and Edguy and on the two Dutch shows we will be accompanied by Crimes Of Passion.

Everybody that comes to our two headliner shows will get little Christmas surprise and we will spoil you with at least one new song from the new album which we will perform live!

After that, the promotion machine starts; pre-listening sessions for journalists, interviews and, and, and…

So keep your eyes open because soon you will see the media full of new Saxon stuff!

Keep the faith!

Review by Hal Sinden

Photography by Ashlinn Nash

Despite its reputation for a tricky commute and arguably eyesore appearance (don’t confuse familiarity with satisfaction, fellow Londoners), the O2 Arena is a fantastic venue space for the Golden Gods and ample notice that metal is still as healthy as it ever was, showing no signs of bowing to austerity measures.

What would we do without this yearly event?

Well, for a start we’d probably have healthier livers and better hearing in our later years, however many would also be deprived of their chance to postpone their Download hangovers or simply be given a reason to wash off this year’s festival mud and watch some of the scene’s glitterati forget about their day jobs for an evening.  Metal Hammer Magazine’s annual schmoozefest is upon us, and with it a dazzling array of leather, lip gloss & limp fringes.

April 30th, 2012

Some things  just go together…heavy metal and thunder…denim and leather …Saxon and Wacken.  They‘ve been old friends for many years now, their harmony collecting an army of thousands upon thousands who view Saxon live as a pilgrimage to the heart of metal music.  And when that pilgrimage takes you, repeatedly, to the largest heavy metal festival in the world, Wacken Open Air in Germany, the results will always be electric.  “When we first played Wacken, it was a small festival with a small stage in a small field, driven by nothing more than raw enthusiasm, which appealed very much to us!“ says Biff Byford, Saxon‘s venerable frontman, “it started as fans putting on a festival for fans, and now it‘s fair to say that it is to Heavy Metal what the Donington Festival used to be. That was the iconic heavy metal festival of the 80’s, and Wacken is the iconic heavy metal festival of now.“

Now you can feel that electricity for yourselves thanks to Saxon – Heavy Metal Thunder – Live – Eagles Over Wacken the no-fat-no-bullshit-100%-pure CD/DVD featuring DVD highlights from Saxon‘s Wacken shows in 2004, 2007 and 2009 comprising THIRTY songs, plus a live CD from Glasgow in 2011. Each set captures the Barnsley-bred British heavy metal legends delivering classic after classic, from “Denim & Leather“ to “Metalhead“ to “Heavy Metal Thunder“ to “Princess Of The Night“ to “Crusader“ in front of 75,000+ loyal, ravenous fans, who have come to expect (and receive) the levels of performance Saxon have been delivering for 32 years.  “And when the eagle comes down at Wacken, when it opens up over the audience, it is always an electric moment for those there,“ says Biff emphatically of the famous Saxon eagle, a ton or so of steel and lights, rescued from a storage space in the British home counties where it had lain dormant gathering rust. In many ways, the eagle‘s rebirth and Wacken‘s ascent are partners on the journey, as it was Wacken‘s organizers who offered to restore the mighty metal bird so as it could become a live centerpiece of both Wacken and Saxon‘s history.
And when it comes to heavy metal, Saxon‘s history is, indeed, rich.

Rightly seen as one of the premier vanguards of Heavy Metal alongside the likes of Iron Maiden, Saxon were a major influence behind platinum-coated stars such as Metallica and Megadeth. Formed as Son of A Bitch in 1976 (and becoming Saxon in 1978) they enjoyed tremendous commercial success in the UK during the ‘80s, with 8 UK top 40 albums, and have sold over 13 millions albums worldwide, while albums such as Wheels Of Steel, Strong Arm Of The Law, Denim & Leather and The Power & The Glory have become legendary staples of any self-respecting metal fan’s collection.  But it has always arguably been on stage where Saxon have excelled the most. There‘s no hiding once you hit the boards, and whether playing to 20000 people in Buenos Aires or 2000 people in Bolton, Byford, Carter, Glockler, Quinn and Scarratt source the same high-voltage energy reserves and deliver the same high-octane, blood and sweat-soaked show that makes Saxon a perennial touring favorite.  “We‘ve consistently tried to write, and perform songs which both us and our audience enjoy,“ says Biff, „and we‘ve worked very hard to maintain that link with our audience, because if you don‘t have that connection it can be very dangerous. We need them, and we need to be ready to deliver for them at every show, that‘s the challenge and it‘s one we gratefully accept and enjoy. If the audience are prepared to get crazy, then it‘s always going to be a strong show, and Wacken always delivers us a fantastic connection. You cannot fake that electricity, everyone wants that ‚charged‘ atmosphere and it is absolutely priceless…“

If you‘ve never had the chance to experience Saxon, start here and start now! If you‘ve had the chance and yearned to capture the energy, the moment and the memory of it all, then put your hands together for Saxon “Heavy Metal Thunder – Live – Eagles Over Wacken” and be grateful to know that despite everything going on in our increasingly confused world, your escapist musical prayers have been answered.

“Heavy Metal Thunder – Live – Eagles Over Wacken“ is available in a variety of formats, including the ‚Golden Ticket‘ D2C/Direct To Consumer Box.  Strictly limited, this exclusive package contains the “Best Of Wacken“ DVD, plus the full and complete Saxon W:O:A performances from 2004/2007/2009 each on a separate DVD, plus a Saxon flag.  The real surprise is that 10 ‚Golden Tickets‘ are randomly included in the box sets, which will allow the lucky winners to visit any Saxon concert in any city around the world (excluding festival appearances).  ‘Silver Tickets‘ giving access to special online content are for the remaining boxes so there are no losers – only winners.

Saxon & Hammerfall @ Koko, London

20th December 2011

Review by Anthony May

Photography by Michelle Murphy

Tonight was the last night of Saxon’s Call to arms tour which had kicked off at Shepherds Bush back in April, and the band had announced in advance that they would be playing the entire "Denim and leather" album to celebrate the albums 30th anniversary.  As a result the venue was sold out and a queue had formed outside the venue long before the doors opened.
