Saint Vitus lead vocalist Wino deported from Norway and the EU

November 14th, 2014

saint vitus logo.jpgSaint Vitus would like to regretfully inform all of our European fans that our lead vocalist Wino was detained by the Norwegian police and immigrations officers for possession of illegal substances since Sunday November 9th. As of 4 pm yesterday evening (Nov. 11th) we were informed by his Norwegian defense attorney that he would more than likely be released that same day and be able to continue the remaining dates of our European tour. This morning we received notification that Wino was being deported today back to the U.S. with no hope to remain in Scandanavia or anywhere in the EU.

Our sincere apologies to all of our fans, the promoters, booking agents and especially our Norwegian fans and promoter for the cancelled show. We will still deliver the HEAVY sound to all of our friends in Europe and it is our hope that everyone will understand our position to go forward with the remaining dates without Wino. David Chandler and Henry Vasquez along with a few surprise guests will take over vocal duties and this will be a rare opportunity to see Vitus with main songwriter David Chandler vocalizing his tormented tales of pain, heartache and DOOM. We hope to still see all of you on our remaining dates. FUCK THAT WEAK SHIT!!!!

Saint Vitus – Let Them Fall (Scion AV)

SAINT VITUS is an American doom metal band from Los Angeles. The quartet consists of founding members Dave Chandler (guitarist) and Mark Adams (bass) alongside singer Scott “Wino” Weinrich and drummer Henry Vasquez. SAINT VITUS has been regarded and credited as one of the first bands of the doom metal genre, along with Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble and Candlemass. The band formed in 1978 under the name Tyrant, with Scott Reagers (vocals), Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass) and Armando Acosta (drums). After recording two demos, the band changed their name to SAINT VITUS in 1979 after the song “St. Vitus’ Dance” by Black Sabbath. The group’s main influences were Black Sabbath and Black Flag, the latter of which SAINT VITUS toured with during the 1980s. Greg Ginn of Black Flag would also sign SAINT VITUS to his label, SST Records, which eventually released four LPs and two EPs by the band including the now classic LPs “Saint Vitus” (1984), “Hallow’s Victim” (1985) and “Born Too Late” (1986). In 1986, Weinrich replaced Reagers; this lineup proved to be the band’s longest-lasting, and recorded three albums, “Born Too Late” (1986), “Mournful Cries” (1988) and “V” (1990). In 2008 it was announced that SAINT VITUS were reuniting for a tour and the band would headline at the 2009 Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. SAINT VITUS‘ new album, entitled “Lillie: F-65″, was released on April 27, 2012.

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival – Helsinki Finland June 27-29, 2012

July 28th, 2012

Tuska Open Air 2012

Suvilahti, Helsinki, Finland

June 27-29, 2012

The Tuska Open Air Festival is definitely a real metal festival institution amongst all other metal festivals in Europe. This current area, Sivulahti, almost located in the heart of Helsinki, only a few kilometers away from the downtown, is a new home for Tuska for the second time. Suvilahti is more like an industrial environment with the burning and hot asphalt underfoot. When raining, at least the area won’t turn to one hell of a big mud fest.

Another thing forcing Tuska to make a change was the date. Originally the festival was supposed to be at the beginning of July, but another big more international based festival took over the date and Tuska was postponed until three weeks later. Well at least some people got pissed off at the changed date. Obviously a few band negotiations needed to start all over. Hopefully Tuska will return back to the original date.

The line-up looked once again – amazing. Megadeth and Ministry and of course the Swedish war trad metallers were headliners, but Lamb Of God had to pull out of Tuska because of the arrest of the frontman in Republic Czechia and was replaced by Finntroll and Animals As Leaders had to cancel as the band managed to miss the flight. Of course a few cult metal bands like Saint Vitus, A.R.G. could be witnessed. The festival was an utter success although the event wasn’t sold out. All in all 26,000 people visited Tuska during three days. was present to check out a lot of bands and enjoy the sun and rain.
