The Tuska Open Air Festival is definitely a real metal festival institution amongst all other metal festivals in Europe. This current area, Sivulahti, almost located in the heart of Helsinki, only a few kilometers away from the downtown, is a new home for Tuska for the second time. Suvilahti is more like an industrial environment with the burning and hot asphalt underfoot. When raining, at least the area won’t turn to one hell of a big mud fest.
Another thing forcing Tuska to make a change was the date. Originally the festival was supposed to be at the beginning of July, but another big more international based festival took over the date and Tuska was postponed until three weeks later. Well at least some people got pissed off at the changed date. Obviously a few band negotiations needed to start all over. Hopefully Tuska will return back to the original date.
The line-up looked once again – amazing. Megadeth and Ministry and of course the Swedish war trad metallers were headliners, but Lamb Of God had to pull out of Tuska because of the arrest of the frontman in Republic Czechia and was replaced by Finntroll and Animals As Leaders had to cancel as the band managed to miss the flight. Of course a few cult metal bands like Saint Vitus, A.R.G. could be witnessed. The festival was an utter success although the event wasn’t sold out. All in all 26,000 people visited Tuska during three days.
Metal-Rules.com was present to check out a lot of bands and enjoy the sun and rain.

Despite its reputation for a tricky commute and arguably eyesore appearance (don’t confuse familiarity with satisfaction, fellow Londoners), the O2 Arena is a fantastic venue space for the Golden Gods and ample notice that metal is still as healthy as it ever was, showing no signs of bowing to austerity measures.
What would we do without this yearly event?
Well, for a start we’d probably have healthier livers and better hearing in our later years, however many would also be deprived of their chance to postpone their Download hangovers or simply be given a reason to wash off this year’s festival mud and watch some of the scene’s glitterati forget about their day jobs for an evening. Metal Hammer Magazine’s annual schmoozefest is upon us, and with it a dazzling array of leather, lip gloss & limp fringes.
For those wondering what would become of the bulk of the band Sabaton (the bassist and vocalist of Sabaton of course have carried on with an entire new band) then here’s the latest…
Sweden’s CIVIL WAR have inked a deal with Despotz Records. Civil War features ex-SABATON members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums), Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) and Oskar Montelius (guitar), as well as vocal GOD Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION’S SHARE) and bassist Stefan “Pizza” Eriksson (VOLTURYON).
Civil War will hit the studio in August. A debut EP will be issued, with a full length debut album to follow.
Footage of the band signing their new contract can be seen below. More on Civil War at this location.

At the moment we are still searching for a keyboard player. Until we have found the right guy we will still have Daniel Myhr with us, in digital form, since he has specially recorded all keyboards for us to use on tour.
Therefore, we are not cancelling any shows at all – the war machine of Sabaton will go on just as planned!
The MKII of Sabaton is ready for the next chapter…
To meet the new members for the first time, please have a look at this video:
Swedish metallers SABATON have confirmed the departure of guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén, drummer Daniel Mulback and keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr. Vocalist Joakim Bróden and bassist Pär Sundström will continue the band with new members which will be announced soon.
A statement from Sabaton as posted to their Facebook page reads as follows: “Starting a band at the age of 18 is simple, keeping it intact for 12 years is much harder, and finally we have come to the crossroad where we will go separate ways. Pär Sundström and Joakim Brodén will continue to battle on stage, carrying the banner of Sabaton to further victories. We will always have an eternal bond to each other, created by more than 12 years of friendship and touring, and wish each other long and prosperous lives with families, various projects and musical careers. In the end, all six of us will end up in our own glorious future…”
We are really happy to announce that we are the main headliner of the Przystanek Woodstock festival in Poland.
This is the biggest festival in Europé and our concert will be one of the biggest metal concerts ever made on this planet.

Sabaton Interview with vocalist Joakim Brodén, Keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr, Guitarist Oskar Montelius
By Carlos M. Llanas
Sabaton is amongst the most intriguing and promising power metal bands around. They travel a different path than your normal “Slaying Dragons, fucking wenches, and drinking beer” power metal band. That’s what sets them aside from the “norm”. Let’s face it…have any of you ever seen a fucking dragon? I didn’t think so. They take a more realistic approach to the music…and that approach is war, perseverance, nations under turmoil, and the remembrance of a fallen soldier. From the Cliffs of Gallipoli, to the skies of the isles, Sabaton covers it all with remarkable accuracy, outstanding musicianship, and one hell of a live show to boot. I had a chance to talk to the friendly Swedes about their plans for the future, their race against time, their first headlining show in the U.S, Pär Sundström’s health, and their temporary replacement Emil Wigelius. Here is what they had to say!
Swedish power metal superstars SABATON just issued the following statement, revealing first details on the bands upcoming album:
“We can now confirm the rumors, the new SABATON album will be called Carolus Rex and in a few days we will start recording it. At the moment we cannot reveal any information about it, other than that it will be available at the end of May this year. We felt it was time for America to get something of a special show and this time the releaseparty will be in Los Angeles, California. This show will be the only US West Coast show and it will be the world premiere of new songs.
It’s a very cold Friday evening in Camden and upon exiting the tube station approximately 20 minutes before the venue doors open there is an amazing sight to behold. Hordes of fans just wrapped around the venue screaming to get in and witness the might that is Sabaton!
Yesterday, Sabaton raised the roof in a sold-out Trix in Antwerp and the icing on the cake is that the band have been confirmed for GMM2012 next summer. On the back of the release of their brand-new album, they will be ready to write another proud chapter in GMM’s history!
Saying that Sabaton has always been a crowd favourite is undoubtedly an understatement. Their third GMM appearance in 2010 not only blew our socks off; their signing session later that day generated the longest queue we’ve ever seen. When the session was officially over, the band decided to continue the session at the adjoining stand so all the fans could get their stuff signed. Last summer’s first live release World War Live: Battle of the Baltic Sea captures the essence of Sabaton’s live prowess. Next summer they’re coming back armed with their eighth album, now tentatively titled Kings of War.
