For the fourth year in a row, it is once again time for this years edition of Copenhell Festival. The festival is the largest metal/hardrock festival in Denmark and located in the outskirts of Copenhagen. The organizers, Live Nation Denmark, had outdone themselves this year and booked more bands than ever. They had also branched out music-wise and this year was not only dedicated to the more extreme forms of metal but also to traditional metal. The bands that performed included: In Flames, Ghost, Accept, Sabaton, Testament, and the Danish metal legend King Diamond who’s show closed the festival at Saturday night. “As Sabaton we normally write about history, but today those tables are turned and we can proudly say that we ourselves have now become a part of history!
We have just received the amazing news that our album Carolus Rex has now reached platinum sales in Sweden and that we are the only Swedish heavy metal band ever to have done this. So that makes Carolus Rex the most successful Swedish heavy metal album ever!
This is an amazing achievement, a milestone and proof that all the long tours, hard work and difficult choices we have had to make have been the right ones. Our biggest thanks from the deepest of our hearts to all the people who have supported us on this journey. No words are enough for what you have done for us or what we feel today.”
Rockstad: Falun has popularly been called the “Sabaton festival in Falun”, and we have naturally been proud of that since we started it all thanks to the band Sabaton.
The festival has never had the ambition to be the greatest festival in Sweden and never had to book the most famous bands in the world. We have however offered high quality and several exclusive artists at a good price every year, on maybe Sweden’s best festival area.
The band Sabaton, from the town of Falun, has grown to one of the greatest hardrock bands with fans travelling every year from more than 25 countries to Falun to visit us.
It’s finally here, the first full length album from the former Sabaton members Myhr, Montelius, Mullback and Sundén! Together with the ace vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson and Stefan “Pizza” Eriksson they’ve created an album that continues where their previous EP ended and takes Civil War to the next level!
Official release for the standard CD and digital version of the album is June 11. BUT we now offer you the possibility of pre-ordering these two super deluxe limited vinyl+CD combo packages (limited to 2000 copies worldwide). If you pre-order then you’ll get the album three weeks in advance; on May 22nd, depending on where you live.
This limited edition of the album come with BOTH Vinyl (2 x 12″ black vinyl) and CD, packaged in an exclusive 6 page Gatefold pack, and feature an exclusive bonus song; “March Across The Belts”. Check out the beautiful front cover of the album here.
Swedish Metalheads, Sabaton, have paid their dues, and have shown the world a glimpse of their style of music…power metal meets historical warfare. Their path to conquest has taken them all over the world by land, air, and sea. And giving fans exactly what they want; an explosive live show…Literally. Their latest release “Carolus Rex” has been in good standings since its release back in May of 2012. They were also recently nominated, and won, three Bandit Rock Awards this year: Best Swedish Album; Best Swedish Live Act; and Best Swedish Group/Artist. What more can these guys ask for? World domination perhaps? Led by the powerful vocals of Joakim Brodén, and the bass work of Pär Sundström, Sabaton are on their way to becoming power metal legends. Pär was kind enough to speak with me after a great live show in Houston, Texas. This is what he had to say.
To celebrate the amazing success of Carolus Rex and the Swedish Empire Tour we are now releasing a special limited edition of Carolus Rex on gatefold LP, for the first time in Swedish, and with a unique blue and yellow vinyl!
Whether you think of Sabaton as pioneers of modern power metal or a bunch of self-confessed ‘Village People in combats’, the fact is, they’re bloody good fun. Flying high with 2012’s Carolus Rex after a renowned post-recording line-up change, the belligerent Swedes are hitting the HMV Forum tonight in force – and from what I’ve heard, in FLAMES… Read the rest of this entry »

Swiss melodic folk death metallers Eluveitie have been bringing us their unique sound for 10 years. Early in 2012 they released the truly epic album ‘Helvetios’, in which their distinctive style of metal fused with traditional instruments was taken to new heights. As if this wasn’t enough for avid fans, to celebrate their anniversary, Eluveitie have just released a 2-CD Digipak entitled ‘The Early Years’, consisting of an entirely re-recorded version of their first EP ‘Vên’ plus a completely re-mastered version of their debut album ‘Spirit’.
We had a chat with vocalist and hurdy-gurdy player Anna Murphy about her unusual choice of instrument, singing in dead languages and their upcoming comprehensive nine date tour of the UK and Ireland supporting Sabaton.
All shows will have VIP meet/greet tickets also onSale now…see below
Sabaton checks in during the band’s run through European Summer festivals to announce the following: “Hello our American friends, we know you have been looking forward to this. As you know, we had to cancel a few shows on our last U.S. tour. Now we have some great news: we will do these shows in February next year! And even better, we have been able to add some more shows… this time on the West Coast since the last tour was focused on the East Coast. Can’t wait to return to the U.S.!”
Headlining in support of their latest studio album, ‘Carolus Rex’, eleven cities will be saturated with Sabaton’s fist-pumping anthems that celebrate the triumph of the human spirit. Local bands will open every show.

The Tuska Open Air Festival is definitely a real metal festival institution amongst all other metal festivals in Europe. This current area, Sivulahti, almost located in the heart of Helsinki, only a few kilometers away from the downtown, is a new home for Tuska for the second time. Suvilahti is more like an industrial environment with the burning and hot asphalt underfoot. When raining, at least the area won’t turn to one hell of a big mud fest.
Another thing forcing Tuska to make a change was the date. Originally the festival was supposed to be at the beginning of July, but another big more international based festival took over the date and Tuska was postponed until three weeks later. Well at least some people got pissed off at the changed date. Obviously a few band negotiations needed to start all over. Hopefully Tuska will return back to the original date.
The line-up looked once again – amazing. Megadeth and Ministry and of course the Swedish war trad metallers were headliners, but Lamb Of God had to pull out of Tuska because of the arrest of the frontman in Republic Czechia and was replaced by Finntroll and Animals As Leaders had to cancel as the band managed to miss the flight. Of course a few cult metal bands like Saint Vitus, A.R.G. could be witnessed. The festival was an utter success although the event wasn’t sold out. All in all 26,000 people visited Tuska during three days.
Metal-Rules.com was present to check out a lot of bands and enjoy the sun and rain.

Despite its reputation for a tricky commute and arguably eyesore appearance (don’t confuse familiarity with satisfaction, fellow Londoners), the O2 Arena is a fantastic venue space for the Golden Gods and ample notice that metal is still as healthy as it ever was, showing no signs of bowing to austerity measures.
What would we do without this yearly event?
Well, for a start we’d probably have healthier livers and better hearing in our later years, however many would also be deprived of their chance to postpone their Download hangovers or simply be given a reason to wash off this year’s festival mud and watch some of the scene’s glitterati forget about their day jobs for an evening. Metal Hammer Magazine’s annual schmoozefest is upon us, and with it a dazzling array of leather, lip gloss & limp fringes.
For those wondering what would become of the bulk of the band Sabaton (the bassist and vocalist of Sabaton of course have carried on with an entire new band) then here’s the latest…
Sweden’s CIVIL WAR have inked a deal with Despotz Records. Civil War features ex-SABATON members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums), Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) and Oskar Montelius (guitar), as well as vocal GOD Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION’S SHARE) and bassist Stefan “Pizza” Eriksson (VOLTURYON).
Civil War will hit the studio in August. A debut EP will be issued, with a full length debut album to follow.
Footage of the band signing their new contract can be seen below. More on Civil War at this location.
SABATON have uploaded series of live clips from their current US tour on YouTube below:
To make their record release party in Hollywood a memorable one, Sabaton are inviting all their Southern California fans to attend their May 23rd show at the Key Club dressed in World War I or World War II period regalia to celebrate the release of their sixth studio album, Carolus Rex.
