Hell yeah! It’s time to enter the mighty Swedenrock Festival. A fantastic and the most enjoyable rock and metal festival on earth. It has to be pointed out that Metal Rules has covered Sweden Rock since 2001! Therefore, it is quite logical to cover the festival again. The 2014 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Approximately 80 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past decade as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t an exception as the fest was sold out despite a lousy economic situation worldwide. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article on several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather was both rainy and sunny during these four days. The Metal-Rules.com team was there to witness the bands, not for some kinda beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!

Review and pics by InfamousButcher

Road veterans Megadeth have been very busy lately. Riding the Big 4 wave, master shredder Dave Mustaine and the boys put out new album TH1RT3EN in November 2011 and revived the Gigantour festival with Motorhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil for a North American Tour. Now following a short break, they are back on the road again with Rob Zombie and Lacuna Coil. As a huge Megadeth fan, I feel very fortunate they do so many tours, we have seen them 9 times in the last 2 and a half years!

NEW DATES ANNOUNCED FOR THE ROB ZOMBIE/MEGADETH MAY 2012 TOUR

March 28th, 2012

Rob Zombie’s “Golden Tickets” Now Available
Zombie to Begin Recording New Album
“Lords of Salem” in Post-Production

The wait is over, Zombie lovers! Rob Zombie has announced that he and his band of maniacs – John 5, Piggy D and Ginger Fish – will enter the studio on June 1 to begin recording the next chapter in the Zombie musical legacy. This new, as yet untitled CD is set for a late 2012 release.

“It has been way, and I mean way too long without any new music. I am dying to get back to it,” said Zombie. “I have not felt this much excitement within the band since recording the first Hellbilly Deluxe record almost 15 years ago. We have been working on tons of songs for quite some time and I can safely say this will definitely be our best record yet.”

Rob Zombie Band 3<

L-R: Piggy D, Rob Zombie, John 5, Ginger Fish

Before Lord Zombie and his band begin recording, they will hit the highway on a co-headline tour with metal legends Megadeth, marking the first time the two bands have toured together since the early 90s.

“This tour should be a blast,” said Zombie. “I haven’t shared a bill with Megadeth since way back in the early days of White Zombie, so this trek is long overdue.”

Two new dates have been added to the U.S. trek – May 13 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, and May 19 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO. The tour, which kicks off Friday, May 11 in Holmdel, NJ, will encompass high-profile appearances at several rock festivals, including Rock On The Range (May 20) that Zombie will co-headline with Incubus, and Rocklahoma (May 26) that Zombie will headline. Zombie will bring his full, explosive stage show out in full force on these dates, and audiences will get what they expect – a true rock and roll spectacle at its finest. Zombie will close all shows on the Megadeth dates.

For these Zombie/Megadeth dates, Rob Zombie has teamed up with The One and Only to make available special VIP Golden Tickets. Two packages have been created to help insure that fans have an unforgettable experience at the show.

Package One includes a GA ticket, priority early entry to help guarantee a great spot for the show, a customized Zombie Bag, limited edition poster, an exclusive-to-the-tour T-shirt, a commemorative VIP laminate, and Golden Ticket Rep Concierge Service. Package Two includes everything in Package One, PLUS a meet’n’greet with Rob Zombie, a high-quality photograph with Rob, and a Rob Zombie autograph. For more information on the Rob Zombie One and Only VIP Golden Tickets – OR – if you’ve already purchased a ticket for the show and would like to upgrade to one of these VIP packages – log onto robzombie.com.

Zombie’s latest film, “The Lords of Salem,” is currently in the final stages of post-production and promises to be Zombie’s most insane film yet. “I am enjoying taking my time finishing this film. I hate rushing things at this stage of the process, so it is a luxury to take it slow and really fine-tune every part of the production,” stated Zombie. No release date is set yet for the film.

Confirmed dates for the Rob Zombie/Megadeth U.S. tour are as follows:

MAY

11 PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ

12 Toyota Pavilion, Scranton, PA

Hellfest – Clisson France

Hellfest – Clisson France

17-18-19 June 2011

Hellfest arrives for its 5th edition. The French festival has been growing incredibly huge and very fast. This year it traditional location in the sport facilities of Clisson couldn’t take anymore of the mass of metalheads coming to this small part of France from all over the world.

This year’s crowd-moving, main acts where none less than Rob Zombie, Scorpions, Ozzy, and Judas Priest, with tons of other goodies in between. An excellent line-up as usual, as it’s part of the winning formula that gave success to the organizers of this event, nowadays already one of the biggest metal fests in the European summer.

The weather won’t be the most pleasant ever, but on the other hand it could have been way worse than just some strong wind and rain here and there, and the sun has been lighting the fields from time to time, still giving the impression to be in summer, after all. But as this festival is amazingly fun if you are among the beer-drinking hellraisers in the audience, you can somehow understand the “hell” part when you have to keep up with the insanely long queues to get into the photo pit, along with running all over the festival area from stage to stage, trying not to fall over some boozer laying on the ground. Oh well… running is good for your health!

Let Me Hear You Scream Sweden Rockkkk.Well the annual roadtrip to Swedenrock by the Finnish Metal Rules.com team is already into it’s 11th year!  The  2011 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock in the line-up. This year wasn’t any exception as the fest was sold out despite the lousy economic situation worldwide and the ticket price had risen a little bit. ver these 11 years of coverage, it has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. Heavy T.O. 2011

Heavy TO

Heavy T.O.

July 23-24, 2011

Review and pics by Monika Deviat

On July 23rd and 24th, 10 000 metalheads descended upon Downsview Park in Toronto ON for Heavy T.O. The two day festival took place the same weekend as Heavy MTL. This was the third year for Heavy MTL and its success from right from the first year prompted MTL organizers Daniel Glick and Nick Farkas to team up with Live Nation to create Heavy T.O. Two stages had bands playing right after each other, about 11 per day. Heavy T.O. sponsor, Jägermeister had a tent area set up with games and were hosting some of the autograph sessions. Certain bands like Megadeth and Slayer had line-ups of over a hundred people waiting to get signatures from their favorite musicians.

Rob Zombie: Tours, Witches, Woolite and Comedy Central

May 3rd, 2011

ROB ZOMBIE SET FOR MAJOR EUROPEAN TOUR AND

NORTH AMERICAN DATES WITH SLAYER

GINGER FISH NAMED AS BAND’S NEW DRUMMER

Zombie Set to Direct Sixth Feature Film, “The Lords of Salem”

Just Wrapped Production on “Woolite” TV Commercial

and Comedy Central TV Special **

LOS ANGELES, CA — May 3, 2011 — First, you induct Alice Cooper into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame along side Elton John and Neil Young, then jump into directing your first major television commercial entitled “The Torturer,” for the laundry detergent Woolite. What DO you do next? Well, if you’re musician/film director/screenwriter Rob Zombie, you maintain course on a very eclectic and busy year filled with robots, pryo, witches, loud rock’n’roll, evil, comedy, touring, paranormal activity, and who knows what else.

Zombie has announced that former Marilyn Manson drummer, Ginger Fish, has joined the Zombie fold and will make his debut on the band’s first major European tour in nearly 12 years, kicking off June 3 in Nurnburg, Germany. Zombie and the band – Fish, guitarist JOHN 5 and Piggy D on bass – will play major European summer festivals including the UK’s Download, Italy’s Sonisphere, and Roskilde in Denmark, as well as headlining a slew of their own shows. Stated Zombie, “The band just got even weirder, and weirder is always better.”

Then, Zombie will join Slayer for the 12-city “Hell on Earth” North American tour. The co-headline trek kicks off July 20 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA, blazing across the country until it wraps up August 6 in Seattle, WA. San Francisco’s thrash-metal band Exodus has been confirmed to open all shows.

“Total destruction on stage and off is what this combination promises,” said Zombie. “Seriously, how much more Hell could you ask for? The answer is none more Hell.”

For the North American dates, Zombie will be bringing his full, legendary stage show out in full force. Audiences can expect an exploding, non-stop barrage of sin, sex and Satan, guaranteed to rip your face off. This will be a true rock’n’roll spectacle at its finest.

Immediately following the “Hell on Earth” tour, Zombie will begin production on his sixth feature film, “The Lords of Salem,” that he wrote and will direct. Set to be filmed in Los Angeles and Salem, MA, Zombie explains, “There were twenty people that everyone knows about, obviously all innocent, executed as witches in Salem. The basic premise of the film is that there was a small coven, actual witches, who were put to death secretly, and vowed one day to return to wreak havoc on Salem’s descendants.

“As it stands now, this is probably the bleakest of all of my films,” Zombie continued, “a long, slow decent into the bowels of Hell.”

And then there’s the Woolite commercial that was shot in Vancouver and completed in mid-April. “It’s a very bizarre TV commercial for a product like this,” said Zombie. “Honestly, I was shocked when they called me to do it.”

If all of this isn’t enough, Zombie just finished directing a special for Comedy Central entitled “Tom Papa: Live In New York City.” The special was shot over two days in NYC, and features comedian Tom Papa from NBC’s “The Marriage Ref” in his first stand-up special.

“Tom and I worked together on my animated film ‘The Haunted World of El Superbeasto’ and had a blast,” says Zombie. “So when Tom asked me to direct his first special, I couldn’t refuse. He’s a brilliant stand-up comic.”

SLAYER AND ROB ZOMBIE TO BRING HELL ON EARTH TO NORTH AMERICA; The Two Metal Icons Will Together for the First Time in More than a Decade

March 28th, 2011
Slayer - North American Tour With Rob Zombie and Exodus

Slayer - North American Tour With Rob Zombie and Exodus

LOS ANGELES, CA – MONDAY, March 28, 2011 — Get ready for hell on earth, because for the first time since they tour together on Ozzfest 1999, Rob Zombie and Slayer are teaming up to hit the road, bringing a glorious purgatory to fans in 12 North American cities. The co-headline trek kicks off Wednesday, July 20 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA.  Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 1 at 10:00AM local time.  Tickets for all shows are available at the venues’ box office, and via the online outlets as listed below.

“We haven’t toured with Zombie since Ozzfest 1999, so you can expect no less than ‘hell on earth,’” said Slayer’s Kerry King.  “Total sonic annihilation and a visual bludgeoning.  Bring your own body bag…”

“Total destruction on stage and off is what this combination promises,” states Zombie, “Seriously, how much more Hell could you ask for? The answer is none more Hell.”

Both Zombie and Slayer will present their full headline sets at every show, and both bands will close shows over the course of the tour.  San Francisco’s thrash-metal band Exodus has been confirmed to open all shows.

Slayer has been performing its classic 1990 Seasons In the Abyss album in its entirety over the past several months, but will instead draw from its entire 30-year catalogue for this tour’s setlist.

Never one to play it safe, Zombie will be bringing his legendary stage show out in full force. Audiences can expect an exploding non-stop barrage of sin, sex and Satan guaranteed to rip your face off. This a true rock and roll spectacle at its finest.

Rob Zombie: With more than 15 million albums sold, seven Grammy nominations, the helming of five major motion pictures (including the #1 record-breaking “Halloween”) and dozens of music videos under his belt, Zombie is truly a force to be reckoned with in today’s entertainment landscape.  For over 25 years his unique meld of horror and hard rock has influenced his sound as a musician, and more recently, his vision as a director and writer.  After the tour, Zombie will be starting production on his sixth feature film, “The Lords of Salem,” with the producers of the Paranormal Activity franchise.

Slayer: The Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot wrote that the  four-time-nominated, two-time Grammy winning Slayer is “one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.”  Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer brings to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including RevolverSPIN, and Metal Hammer.  With songs that mirror the turmoil and aberrations of our society – God’s terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, chemical warfare, the hideous minds of serial killers, and the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, Slayer remains crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the Mainstream.

Dates for the Slayer and Rob Zombie tour are as follows:

JULY
20    Sovereign Center, Reading, PA - ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations
22    DTE Amphitheatre, Detroit, MI - ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations
23    Stage AE, Pittsburgh, PA - ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations

30    Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, AB  Canada - ticketmaster.ca and all Ticketmaster locations

Finally at Sweden Rock: ROB ZOMBIE!

December 20th, 2010
ROB ZOMBIE

ROB ZOMBIE

Robert Cummings, as the multi-talented artist was originally called, got his musical break in the early 90s as the singer of White Zombie. These horror-movie-inspired New York eccentrics established a new school of rock, a certain Marilyn Manson being a prominent student. In 1998 Rob Zombie released his solo debut “Hellbilly Deluxe”. The musical direction was similar but more heavy on industrial elements. The record was a big success, and Rob was to – among other things – record two more solo albums and direct several horror-movies (!) before “Hellbilly Deluxe 2″ was released in 2010. However, this Godfather of alternative and industrial metal has never before performed at SRF, but now the time has finally come. To the delight of many.

Revising as well as updating his previous collections with tracks from his most recent super-smash studio masterpiece album—the Top 10-charting Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls And The Systematic Dehumanization Of Cool–the single-CD (exclusive to Walmart) offers an overview of his solo career while the double-CD (exclusive to Best Buy) adds tracks from his seminal days with White Zombie.

Whether it’s the single-CD or double-CD, Rob Zombie – Icon represents the best of rock’s most frightful vision of the dark side. Rob Zombie – Icon is part of the new Icon series of albums from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) featuring the greatest hits, signature tunes and fan favorites of the most popular artists in music history. With more than 15 million albums sold, 7 Grammy® nominations, the helming of 5 major motion pictures and dozens of music videos under his belt, Rob Zombie is a force to be reckoned with in today’s entertainment landscape. Zombie’s unique meld of horror and hard rock has influenced his sound as a musician and, more recently, his vision as a director and writer.

Showcasing Zombie’s command of the horror movie genre, Zombie’s first film, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES (Lionsgate 2004), became an instant cult classic. In 2005, Zombie assaulted the film world with the critically acclaimed THE DEVIL’S REJECTS (Lionsgate). In 2007, Zombie had a bona fide blockbuster hit with his re-imagining of HALLOWEEN, and his sequel HALLOWEEN 2 (2009) had record-breaking success at the box office as well.

This year, Zombie returns to making music. Zombie enthusiasts can also look forward to the release of the special edition of HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 via new label home Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records. Set to street on September 28, this deluxe version of HD2 will feature three brand new tracks: “Everything Is Boring,” “Michael” and “Devil’s Hole Girls And The Big Revolution,” as well as a reimagining of “The Man Who Laughs.” In addition, the package will include a brand new video for “Mars Needs Women” (shot during the “Gruesome Twosome” tour with Alice Cooper), a live version of Cooper’s classic “School’s Out” with Cooper on board, and a 30-minute DVD featuring a tour documentary entitled “Transylvanian Transmissions,” along with all-new expanded artwork.
