“Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance”

For those who were either born too late or living in the wrong part of the world while music which has now become legendary was exploding from the Bay Area’s thrash metal scene in the early-to-mid 1980s, here’s your second chance to re-live history.

With a very special All Ages show marking the 10-year anniversary of former EXODUS singer Paul “Pavel” Baloff’s passing, “Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance” will take place at the Oakland Metro Operahouse on Saturday, February 4^th, 2012 and features the evening’s headliners EXODUS plus POSSESSED, FORBIDDEN, HEATHEN, and MAD AT SAM on the Main Stage.  Playing the Second Stage are ANGERHEAD, MUDFACE, THE VENTING MACHINE, HELLFIRE, and HYSTERIA.

The evening is well on its way to being a SOLD-OUT event and may very well turn into the second installment of the recent Bazillion Points book Murder in the Front Row (which can be purchased here), so don’t miss out!

Of the event, EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt has previously stated:

“[We] knew it was high time we do something special to remember the legend of Paul Baloff, so we decided to put together a show the Bay Area will not soon forget.  There are some nice surprises in store as well!  It will be ten years and two days since the thrash world lost one of its greatest frontmen ever, and we will always make sure his memory lives on and is never forgotten. Long live The Destroyer!”

EXODUS and FORBIDDEN are just two of the bands from the now infamous Bay Area thrash metal scene who will be performing at the special show marking the 10-year anniversary of former EXODUS singer Paul “Pavel” Baloff’s passing. “Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance” will take place Saturday, February 4^th, 2012 at the Oakland Metro Operahouse.

States guitarist Gary Holt of EXODUS:

“With February 2nd being the 10 year anniversary of Paul’s passing, the band knew it was high time we do something special to remember the legend of Paul Baloff, so we decided to put together a show the Bay Area will not soon forget. We’ve pulled some of the Bay’s finest for this, bands who knew and shared many a stage and drink with Pavel.  There are some nice surprises in store as well!  It will be ten years and two days since the thrash world lost one of its greatest frontmen ever, and we will always make sure his memory lives on and is never forgotten. Long live The Destroyer!”

FORBIDDEN guitarist & founding member Craig Locicero adds:

“Everyone in FORBIDDEN is honored to have been asked by Gary and EXODUS to play this show marking the 10th anniversary of Paul Baloff’s crazy fucking life!  I witnessed his insanity first-hand at the Mabouhay Gardens and Ruthie’s Inn.  As EXODUS got bigger, Paul got crazier – in a good way.  It was genius at work.  He was the mold that all thrash frontmen cut themselves from, but he was also a pretty damn sweet guy.  Always kind to those he liked, he’d be in the front row at FORBIDDEN gigs screaming things like ‘Why does it have to be so heavy?’ and my favorite, ‘Heavier than time!’  I’m laughing just typing this!

“At his memorial, I saw people I hadn’t seen in years. So much love, so many laughs. It made me happy in some strange way just to see that kind of respect displayed for Paul.  We all really loved him.  Luckily his legend has returned with a vengeance… and hey, Paul, you did it: You’ve become heavier than time!”

Finland is definitely one hell of a paradise for metalheads as there are five to six metal festivals arranged all around Finland during the summer time. One of those metal festivals which has started becoming more and more known is Jalometalli up in the north of Finland. The whole festival started as a small event, mostly consisting of local bands. Jalometalli has since grown, attracting plenty of killer and catchy names such as Onslaught, Testament, and Rotting Christ.  This year’s event was no exception with several first time visitors such as Overkill, Trouble and Mortal Sin. It is obvious most of these bands have been all time favs of the Jalometalli organization. The festival is not a big massive gathering of tens of thousands of people. Instead, the event is a small, true, intense metal event with visitors having travelled from far away. This is the very first time ever when Jalometalli festival is covered by Metal-Rules.com. And if you live somewhere in the northern part of Sweden, Norway or Russia, start seriously considering having a roadtrip to the next Jalometalli event as the line-up of 2009 will surely be full of pleasant surprises…

Wacken Open Air 2007 

Wacken is a blessed mecca of the whole metal world. Again this year it was entirely sold out when ten thousands of metal manics travelled from all around the world to gather and witness plenty of ass kicking bands. The weather forecast for Wacken didn’t look that promising. The chaotic and muddy mess caused by long and heavy rains rampaged the ground during the whole summer. The  festival often provides a survival test to every visitor with its mud and crap. But but gods of metal had seen the light and blessed the whole three day metal inferno with tremendous extreme heat and a sunny weekend. Things could not be better…sun, metal and beer. That combination is nothing but an utter perfect way to enjoy the metallic mayhem at Wacken.

As usual, the true metal commando team from Metal-Rules.Com was there again witnessing a helluva lot of great bands and above all an unexpected huge fire in the main area. Feel, see and enjoy this article.

POSSESSED´s Jeff Becerra & SADISTIC INTENT´s Rick Cortez

What happened to Sadistic Intent, some of you may wonder silently in your minds. The band was working with their THE SECOND COMING OF DARKNESS debut full-lenght album in 2002, but when things really start to go badly wrong, they do – and nothing can stop them going wrong. That was Sadistic Intent´s unfortunate faith with their 1st attempts to get the album recorded back in the day; everything ended up for a real mess.

However, as long as there´s some hope left, almost anything can be expected, even the second coming of Sadistic Intent. And talking about these so-called ´2nd comings´, Possessed´s sort of ´second coming´ has been going on for a while already. Namely the band members of Sadistic Intent have been currently been doing one-off shows with Jeff Benjamin Becerra, playing classic Possessed songs in Europe, in the States, and in Mexico with a huge enthusiasm. It all started with a special reunion show of Possessed that took place at Wacken festival in August 2007. At the same time, Sadistic Intent played one-off gig in Hamburg, Germany - actually the day after the Wacken weekend, together with the Dutch old school Death Metal masters Pentacle.

Since Possessed´s special Wacken performance and Sadistic Intent´s show at Ballroom in Hamburg last year, lots of things have happened. Read all about these things – amongst other very interesting plans both Sadistic Intent and Possessed have in their sleeves about a number of things.
