PHILIP ANSELMO Says Original PANTERA ‘Behind The Music’ Special ‘Smeared’ His Name
An updated version of VH1′s “Behind The Music” documentary on PANTERA, “Behind The Music Remastered: Pantera”, will premiere on VH1 Classic in the U.S. on Saturday, April 6 at 9:00 p.m. EST. The new version contains fresh interviews with those who also lost loved ones the night PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was murdered in Columbus, Ohio, as well as with PANTERA members Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass), and Dimebag’s longtime girlfriend, Rita Haney.
The original “Behind The Music” episode on PANTERA had its premiere in May 2006. The program included interviews with the surviving members of PANTERA — Anselmo, Vinnie Paul Abbott (drums), and Brown — along with appearances by Guy Sykes (tour manager), Walter O’Brien (manager), Terry Date (producer), several members of PANTERA’s/DAMAGEPLAN’s crew, and Haney.
“Sorry for your fucked up, retarded, asinine program that smeared my name to the goddamn toilets of every house in America,” Anselmo says about the original show in one of the newly filmed interview clips that is included in the “Remastered” version of the episode. “You motherfuckers didn’t have to live with it, I did. I resent it — still resent it.”
Philip claims that since PANTERA ended, he has become a totally reformed character.
“Believe me, I’ve taken a good, cold, long hard fucking stare in the mirror,” he says. “I know who the fuck I am, I know the mistakes I’ve made. Therefore, I can move on.” Read the rest of this entry »

PHILIP ANSELMO and WARBEAST Confirm January 8, 2012 Release Date for New Split Album
PHILIP ANSELMO and WARBEAST Confirm January 8, 2012 Release Date for New Split Album ‘War of the Gargantuas’ – Marking the Release of Philip Anselmo’s First Solo Work
WARBEAST Set to Release New Full Length Album ‘Destroy’ in Early 2013
Legendary Pantera, Superjoint Ritual and DOWN vocalist PHILIP ANSELMO and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEAST recently announced that they will be releasing a new split album entitled War of the Gargantuas. The split now has an official release date of January 8, 2012 and will include two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by PHILIP ANSELMO during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass.
“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers WARBEAST. The title of the split is War of The Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the 60′s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our “Gargantuan” personalities,” states PHILIP ANSELMO. “Both WARBEAST and myself have full length LP’s that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”
“These two songs we have on War of the Gargantuas were the next level after Krush The Enemy,” states WARBEAST guitarist Scott Shelby. “They’ve been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.”
WARBEAST also recently announced the upcoming release of their second full-length album, Destroy. The album is scheduled to be released in early 2013 via Housecore Records and is currently in the mastering stages. Stay tuned for more information on Destroy coming very soon.

Philip Anselmo of Housceore Records, Down, Pantera, etc.
Philip Anselmo of Housceore Records, Down, Pantera, etc.
Interview by Shawn Jam Hill

It was with great trepidation that I picked up the phone at 5:30 PM EST on Wednesday, March 10 2010 because I knew the (supposedly) mercurial Mr. Philip Anselmo himself was on the other end of the line. After spending years fronting one of metal’s greatest bands of all time (Pantera), starting up the lumbering behemoth know as Down, feuding with his Pantera bandmates, losing his best friend Dimebag Darrell to a crazed gun-toting nut in 2004 and subsequently being denied access to the funeral while generally leading a rock and roll lifestyle that famously nearly killed the man, maybe Philip wasn’t too keen on jawing with some nobody journalist way up in Canaduh.
I was wrong.
Speaking thoughtfully (some would say quite slowly) and seemingly choosing his words very carefully, Philip Anselmo spoke as would a true Southern gentleman. He told stories, rambled on a little here and there and even had a laugh or two during our 35 minutes on the horn that was (theoretically) set up to promote upcoming releases on his own Housecore Records imprint. In reality, it was a good old fashioned chin-wag.
