The grand old cinema in Brixton opened its doors once again that night for a show befitting the epic backdrop of the arena. Two metal titans, Devin Townsend and Meshuggah were gearing up for a double headline slot that night. With queues wrapped right round the building, the atmosphere was already buzzing despite the early door time of 6pm. Two giant anti-surfing signs set in red at the front of the stage was a reminder that for this evening, metal had to be on its best behavior.

PERIPHERY Announce New Icarus Lives EP Details and Release Info

January 27th, 2011

There is no doubt that PERIPHERY are innovators and they continue to raise the bar of originality upon the release of their much anticipated new Icarus Lives EP, which is now officially set for an April 19th release. This offering features a brand new unreleased track, a series of remixes and video clips. Its official track listing and explanation as to how this EP came together is below.

Thomas Murphy (bass) states: “Hello to all of our fans out there. We wanted to let you in on some exciting news! We will be releasing our second effort in the form of The Icarus Lives EP later this spring. We like to think of it as a supplement to our first album. It will contain a version of ‘Icarus Lives!’ with newly recorded vocals and the fantastic music video by Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci of Killswitch Productions, alongside several remixes of the song by the band, winner of our Icarus remix contest (Pete Graves from the UK) and a special guest to be named at a later date. We have also included a tweaked version of our song ‘Jetpacks Was Yes’ and the brand new music video by Eric Haviv at FUGO studios.

“In addition, the songs ‘Captain On’ and ‘Eureka’ (available only through digital download until now) will be made available in physical format with newly re-recorded vocals. To sweeten the deal, we have added a new song, ‘Frak the Gods,’ to give our fans a taste of whats to come as we enter the studio later this year to record our second full length. As you can tell, we tried to make this EP worth your time and money. We have put a ton of time into these songs to deliver to you an exciting and polished product. Thank you for all the support and hopefully see you out on the road.”
On March 3rd, PERIPHERY makes their much anticipated return to North America alongside Fair To Midland and Scale The Summit. This five-week trek is going to be a monster and see below to view the entire touring itinerary. PERIPHERY Announce Massive North American Spring Tour; Post New Video

January 20th, 2011

PERIPHERY Announce Massive North American Spring Tour With
Fair To Midland and Scale The Summit; Post New Video For “Jetpacks Was Yes” Exclusively At GuitarWorld.com

There is no doubt that PERIPHERY are innovators and guitarist Misha Mansoor is being hailed by industry experts and his peers as one of the main purveyors of this current Djent movement that is feverishly spreading throughout the progressive circles. This Maryland based six-piece spent the better half of 2010 on the road and pick up in the New Year right where they left off as they prepare for a massive European tour, which kicks off at the end of the month.

On March 3rd, PERIPHERY makes their much anticipated return to North America alongside Fair To Midland and Scale The Summit. Guitarist Alex Bois states: “This tour couldn’t have come at a better time! We’ll be fresh off of our first UK/EU tour and hungry to return to our home crowds. We’ve all been HUGE fans of both bands for a while now and it will be great to finally share the road/stage with them. I think our styles compliment each other in such a way that this tour will be educational, as it is exciting. Our new Icarus Lives EP will also be released around this time too, so we’re also stoked to be showcase some tracks from it. See you all soon.”
Vocalist Spencer Sotelo further comments on the new video: “Originally the guys and I wanted to portray a very melancholy vibe. We had been brainstorming ideas together for a few weeks and had some different concepts. I thought it would be awesome to try and bring to life the actual meaning and emotion of the song’s story line in a very literal, yet tasteful way. It is a fictional story about an infinite being who outlives everyone, and everything, he comes in contact with. He comes to realize that although living forever has it’s great benefits, it is a curse because everything has a finite lifespan whether it be people, trees, animals, even planets and solar systems. Therefore, this video is the section of his life where he is reminiscing on his past relationships with different places and people that had meaning to him. The rest is basically showing how he has outlived the very place he had called his home for a great deal of time, and he now has to search for new colonies throughout the galaxy to fit in to and ultimately start over and make a new life.”

PERIPHERY Prepare For Massive North American Tour With Darkest Hour

November 2nd, 2010

Very rarely does a band come along that just defies the boundaries of conventionality, but the experimental, progressive metal outfit PERIPHERY have done just that and have blazed a trail of originality that has sent a shockwave throughout the metal world. This Maryland based six-piece are one of the few who actually feature three guitar players and are led by the virtuoso Misha Mansoor, whose unique ability and style has him quickly being mentioned as one of the most gifted new players to come along in years. The group’s highly acclaimed debut, self-titled album is a work of sheer precision packaged with a propulsive blend of melody, intensity and undeniable songwriting prowess.

PERIPHERY will be embarking on a massive North American tour alongside Darkest Hour, labelmates Veil of Maya and Revocation this Nov/Dec, so be sure to either see below or head over now to www.myspace.com/periphery to view their entire tour schedule. Also, be sure to check out their new eye-popping video clip for the track “Icarus Lives!” shot by acclaimed directors Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci of Killswitch Productions.

Mansoor checks in with his thoughts on the upcoming tour and future plans: “Hey everyone, it’s been an amazing whirlwind of a year for PERIPHERY and there are no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We are currently preparing for a long tour with Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya and Revocation, which is going to be a blast and we can’t wait to get back out there to play for everyone. Also, we encourage everyone to come and meet us at our merch booth after each and every show to come and hang with us. We love hearing feedback from our fans and getting a chance to meet new people.

“We also will have a fresh new, longer setlist with a BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW SONG and a few fun surprises just for this tour. We are also giving lessons on our respective instruments (a lot of days are already booked!), so please come out early to see us and jam with us. Contact us on myspace or facebook if you are interested in lessons.

“I am also really happy to announce that PERIPHERY is well into the writing process for our upcoming EP. We have tracked most of the instrumentation and vocals and are making final tweaks on everything but you guys are in for a treat. There will be some re-tweaked material, some rare material and some brand new material on it so there will be something for everyone.

“We have also been working on material for our second full-length now, so that we can have as much time to refine it before we record the final product. Be sure to check our MySpace and Facebook pages regularly for our updates. Our goal with our music is to cover as much ground as possible while staying true to our sound, and hopefully evolve from previous work all at once. It’s a tall order but a fun challenge nonetheless, and we are doing our best to ensure that the new material will fulfill that goal.

“We want to thank all of our fans for their love and support. We would be nowhere without you and we want to be able to meet you all and thank you in person, so be sure to come out to the shows and hang out with us. We also want to thank Darkest Hour for giving us the opportunity to be on this very special tour with them and it is such an honor for us. You guys are in for a treat. See you there.”

In 2011, PERIPHERY will further expand upon the unique path they are carving out within the metal genre and deliver an offering of epic proportion.
