Paradise Lost + Lacuna Coil + Katatonia
@ The Roundhouse, Camden
November 3rd 2013

Paradise Lost does not need an introduction to fans of gothic metal. It has been 25 years of existence for the Yorkshire boys. It has been 25 years with consistent bands members if you do not count the numerous changes on the drum kit. That is a long time for a band to exist and a long time for a band to maintain their own image, develop their own genre and influence several bands. It deserves a celebration and the setting is the Roundhouse in Camden, Sunday the 3rd of November 2013. What better season to celebrate and what better city to wrap up a UK tour that has been embracing the band’s quarter of a century journey.
Not only does Paradise Lost have a back catalogue and a fan base big enough to host an evening on their own, but the band have invited the finest support acts to join them on the anniversary tour.
From the harrowing doom of their 1990 debut Lost Paradise, to 1991’s genre-defining Gothic, to 1995’s break-out masterpiece Draconian Times, to 1997’s electronically-tinged One Second, to 2007’s return to a heavier form In Requiem, to last year’s opus Tragic Idol, PARADISE LOST has continued to evolve since their inception in 1988, inspiring countless artists throughout the years. To celebrate their influence on the scene, a special compilation will be released this fall to commemorate the band’s 25th anniversary landmark.
Entitled Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities), this album will be released on October 21st in Europe (digitally on November 5th in North America) and features artwork by Parisian designer Valnoir (www.metastazis.com), who has worked with artists such as ORPHANED LAND, MORBID ANGEL, WATAIN, and more than 150 others. All tracks found on the compilation are previously released rarities– except the new track “Loneliness Remains,” and newly recorded “Gothic 2013″ and “Our Saviour 2013.” These three tracks will also appear on a mint green 10″ (USA exclusive color; limited to 300 copies) that includes a CD booklet and CD insert.
To pre-order your copy of this limited PARADISE LOST 10″, please visit CM Distro.

Interview with Greg Mackintosh: Singer of Vallenfyre and guitarist of Paradise Lost
Interview and pics by Arto Lehtinen
Paradise Lost’s riff-master, Greg Mackintosh, still has the old school death/doom metal spirit left. Besides Paradise Lost, Mackintosh formed another band called Vallenfyre which is pure old school death/doom metal worship. Vallenfyre recently visited Finland by doing the debut gig in front of 300 enthusiastic metallers. The gig truly offered a real flashback to the heyday of the 80’s/90’s death metal. Metal-Rules.com had an utter privilege to talk to Mr Mackintosh before the show.
The album was recorded at The Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, England. Vocals were recorded at the Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden by Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT), who also produced, mixed, and mastered the album. Tragic Idol is scheduled for a worldwide release through Century Media Records on April 23rd, 2012 in Europe and April 24th, 2012 in North America.
In regards to this new album, Gregor Mackintosh (guitar) mentioned in the new Terrorizer interview: “We’ve probably been influenced more by classic metal and classic doom metal on this record than anything else.”
Nick Holmes (vocals) about “Crucify”: “My father always used to say that typical life stresses were crucifying him, I always thought it was such a dramatic way of stating that. He was just uncomfortable with a situation that would soon be remedied. I also refer to an actual person as a literal crucifixion at the end, The words ‘…for eternity you’re my sentence’ is my favorite line on the whole album.”
The Tragic Idol touring cycle starts with a show at the Finnish Metal Expo this weekend, followed by their first Australian tour in 17 years, a UK/European tour starting April, and European festivals throughout the summer. See the dates below to see when PARADISE LOST is coming to a city near you.

More news about PARADISE LOST and Tragic Idol will be announced soon, so stay tuned!
After taking a trip back in time with the Draconian Times MMXI DVD/live album (the London legacy show of their classic album from 1995) and also Gregor Mackintosh’s return to his crusty doom/death metal roots with VALLENFYRE (alongside his mates from MY DYING BRIDE, DOOM, and AT THE GATES), it’s now time for PARADISE LOST’s 13th studio album! Gregor Mackintosh (lead guitar) comments, “We are currently holed up in The Chapel studios in Lincolnshire, England recording our new album which is entitled ‘Tragic Idol’. The album will again be produced by Jens Bogren and is influenced by classic doom metal and classic metal. I would say it is more melodic than the last record whilst retaining the heaviness. There are lots of guitar solos and melodies. The album will contain such track titles as ‘Honesty in Death’, ‘Theories from Another World’, ‘In this We Dwell’ and the title track ‘Tragic Idol’.”
Tragic Idol is scheduled for a worldwide release through Century Media Records on April 23rd, 2012 in Europe and April 24th, 2012 in North America. PARADISE LOST’s last studio album, Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us (2009), entered the charts in over 10 European countries– most notably #22 in Germany and Finland, #29 in Sweden, and #45 in France.

Interview by Marko Syrjala
The British doom metal band Paradise Lost is one the most succesfull and best known bands from its genre. The band was originally formed in 1988 in Halifax and their debut album "Lost Paradise" was released in early 1990. During the following years they released such classic metal albums as "Icon", "Draconian Times" and "One Second". After a a couple of more "experimental" albums, like "Host" in 1999, the band returned back to their metal roots with "Symbol of Life" which continued from where they left off with "One Second" in 1997. Years have gone by and now we are living in 2007. Paradise Lost are just about to release their brand new album "In Requiem" in May and the first single release "The Enemy" is already out in most European countries. Readers who are willing to find details about the new album would be disappointed because this interview was done some months ago while the band was still in the midst of their recording process for that upcoming album. The band visited Finland last year and here are the results of my lenghty conversation with Nick and Greg backstage at Club Tavastia in Helsinki. CHEERS !!
