PAGANFEST NORTH AMERICA V

Korpiklaani, Turisas, Chthonic, Varg, Winterhymn

The Republik. Calgary, Alberta  2014

It was painful to go  inside on the first sunny day in a week!  As I waited in line enjoying the last few warm rays of sunset I watched the faithful.  Many people were dressed up and faces painted. Countless folk/pagan/Viking shirts made me think this is one of the strongest sub genres right now. Doors open an hour behind schedule which for once didn’t bother me as it was fine to soak up a last few rays of sunset while in line.

Review &  photos by Metalette

Every year, Paganfest brings out a fascinating crowd – a subdivision of the LA metal scene that you otherwise never get to see! The SoCal vikings and heathens come out to party in their chainmail and warpaint and tattered fur, and many fans sport plastic-horned helmets if nothing else. The festival also draws an admirably diverse group of fans; all age-ranges, races, and genders appreciate the uniquely good time that is offered at Paganfest. I kid you not, there was a white-haired old lady sitting in the VIP section, bopping her head along to all the bands’ sets.

TURISAS to headline “PaganFest: America Part III” tour

January 28th, 2012

Turisas - Paganfest III

Battle metallers TURISAS will be heading back to North America this spring for “PaganFest: America Part III”, their first-ever US headlining run! Joining the Finnish sextet on their triumphant return to the States is a gathering of bands from across the world: Scotland’s ALESTORM, Rome’s EX DEO, Russia’s ARKONA, and the US’s very own HUNTRESS.

In regards to this upcoming tour, TURISAS front-man Mathias Nygard comments:  “It took time, but finally we had a chance to make it back to North America. After many successful tours there with acts like CRADLE OF FILTH and DRAGONFORCE during the past few years, it’s great to return as a headliner. This is a killer combo with great variety– some of the most twisted acts of the folkier side of metal!  Be prepared for a great night out– I expect to witness some crazy audiences!”

So don’t miss out! Check the dates below to see when TURISAS and “PaganFest” will be coming to a city near you.

Paganfest UK 2008 – KOKO Camden, London

April 13th, 2008

KOKO Camden, London

April 6, 2008

All live pics and review by HannTu

Appropriately enough, it was clear and slightly snowy the evening of Paganfest, and with a 5pm start, there was ample time for all five bands to show their quality. It was a night for singing, dancing and some rocking heavy metal! As far as I was concerned, this was a perfect night: firstly, the lights were amazing, meaning I captured some great shots and secondly, the bouncers let us stay the entire show in the photo pit. The downside is that I rarely took any notes, so the report will be slightly short on words. But big on pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. Enjoy, as I did.
