Grindcore masters NAPALM DEATH announce new album title, release date, cover artwork

November 4th, 2011
Napalm Death on FacebookAs leaders of extreme music and one of the hardest working bands around, the legendary NAPALM DEATH is currently putting the final touches on their 14th studio album (excluding the cover album Leaders Not Followers). This new piece of brutality is entitled Utilitarian, and it will hit stores on February 27th in Europe and February 28th in North America via the band’s long time partner, Century Media Records. The cover artwork perfectly fits the album’s theme and was created by the Danish artist Frode Sylthe, who is also responsible for THE HAUNTED`s amazing Revolver artwork.

Singer Mark “Barney” Greenway explains the album title and concept: “After some deliberation, we have decided on Utilitarian as the album title. We generally try to avoid generic titles, and this seemed to have a lot of scope to it. I won’t explain the full meaning of Utilitarianism here because it’s an ethical theory, and as ethical theories go, the depth and debate around it is quite heavy at times. It has a certain ‘morality’ aspect to it and that isn’t something that drives me, so I also certainly have issues with it.”

“So, rather than just nail that straight to the mast, of course we wanted to put our own spin on it by suggesting that those (i.e. the utilitarian in us, perhaps) who try to challenge everything, or fight against conventions, well, we go through periods of real self-doubt where we wonder if we’re really making a difference. I suppose the conclusion is that, for the sake of all our freedoms, you should never stop, as even the feeling of resistance is at least a signal to those who would like to entirely control and dominate us – meaning everything from our instinctive behavior to our human entitlement to walk the earth unprovoked.”

“Regarding the album overall, the final creases should be ironed out fairly soon, and immediately after that, we thought it would be good to top it off with a few UK dates. We’ve been playing one new song (“Quarantined”) out on a tour of Canada and it’s been well received, so we hope to perhaps throw in another one for now.  Either way, we’ll be bouncing off the walls again near you very soon. Cheers all.”

NAPALM DEATH is already confirmed for the 2012 Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Maryland Deathfest, and much more. If you are a UK citizen, make sure to catch them on their year-end run in November/December and witness some of the new material live!

NAPALM DEATH re-signs worldwide deal with Century Media Records

September 24th, 2011

Century Media Records has renewed their deal with British grindcore legend NAPALM DEATH! In regards to the re-signing, Jens Prüter (Head of A&R, Century Media Records) comments, “NAPALM DEATH is not only one of the most important and influential extreme metal bands, they are also a band that always raises their voice against social ills– and even against record companies (remember ‘Enemy Of Music Business’). Therefore I’m even more glad about NAPALM DEATH re-signing to Century Media for more great albums of intelligent and meaningful noise. And have you ever seen a weak NAPALM DEATH show? I haven’t, and I have seen them MANY times and will never get tired to see them again and again. Thanks to Mitch, Danny, Shane and Barney for their resilience and resistance– and a special thanks to Marc from MAD for fighting on their side.”

NAPALM DEATH vocalist Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway also comments, “We’re very happy to be re-signing to Century Media. In fact, I think it’s the first time we’ve actually re-signed on a longer term deal with anybody since the days when we didn’t strictly know that we could be digging ourselves a big hole with labels…It’s important for NAPALM to stay with an independent, and Century proved to us with their overall enthusiasm and attention that this is where we needed to be. There’s a perfect balance of getting the band out there in people’s faces whilst still understanding the point that not everything is acceptable or ‘ethical’ promotion. It’s more like working with friends who actually care, and who could argue with that?”

The band finished recording their upcoming 14th studio album earlier this year at Parlour Studio in Kettering, UK with long-time producer Russ Russell, and they are currently on the road in Russia. Known as one of the most reliable and hardest working bands in extreme music, NAPALM DEATH will also tour extensively in Canada in October and will appear at 2012’s Maryland Deathfest. Jalometalli 2011 – Oulu Finland

September 20th, 2011

Here we are again… The mighty Jalometalli Open Air Metal festival strikes back once again with a killer line-up to maintain its metallic lofty status on the Finnish festival map. The festival is known for relying on an old school metal approach offering traditional metal to extreme metal. The festival offered a great deal of bands from the classic metal to the extreme black metal. The festival had also paid attention to young rising and local bands which had been placed to play at the small third sage. That was unique and thankfully most of the bands sounded killer. The Metal Rules team hit the ground of Oulu to testify several absolutely killer bands. The whole Jalometalli as a festival is so unique and one of kind that anyone reading this article should take a glance at the offering of the festival. Here is a brief article on the fest.

The next installment of Craig Locicero of FORBIDDEN’s Ωmega Wave podcast will host guitarist Mitch Harris of Napalm Death.  Tune in to the show this Sunday, September 4th at 6:30 p.m. PACIFIC / 9:30 p.m. EASTERN at this location.

States Locicero:

“Mitch is an American citizen who’s been living in the U.K. for many years. He has a different perspective being in another continent than the rest of us living here on a day-to-day basis.  This week Bill [Shields] and I are going to discuss the post-9/11 world.  It’s the 10th Anniversary since the attacks and we are asking ourselves some questions… What’s worse?  What’s better?  Has any justice truly been served?  Were we all being told the truth about the attackers identities and motives?  Has America and the rest of the world learned anything from that tragic day?  These questions are sure to raise anger and passion in some individuals, but that’s what we do on our show.  Ask tough questions!

“This should be a powerful show as Mitch was a excellent guest when we had him on with Jon Schaffer for a round table discussion a few months ago.”

Locicero and his co-host “Barbwire” Bill Shields (former host for “In the Dark” Radio, professional wrestler, and current Ordained Minister of the Collective Conscious) will speak off-the-cuff on whatever controversial subject may come up. The goals of the Ωmega Wave Podcast are two-fold:

1) To speak to different compelling and controversial lyricists in Metal and Hard Rock weekly.  They will be asked about their motivation, their craft, and what exactly inspires them in these challenging times to do what they do.  Their thoughts & opinions on the most current affairs and intensely debated issues will also be discussed.

2) Have listeners sit in on a real conversation between good friends without censorship watering those thoughts down.  Hosts Bill and Craig will take questions & topic suggestions live and do not filter their reactions to them. These conversations can get very heated at times, depending on the topic.

Previous guests include: Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth, Sons of Liberty), Peter Dolving of The Haunted, Henrik Ohlsson (Scar Symmetry), Barney Greenway of Napalm Death, Neil Fallon (Clutch, the Company Band), C.J. “The Metal Motivator” Ortiz, Charles Elliott of Abysmal Dawn, and Mr. Axe from Anonymous.

Listen to the tracks “Forsaken At The Gates” and “Dragging My Casket” from FORBIDDEN’s 2010 reunion album, Omega Wave, here.

Purchase Omega Wave (digi-pak or vinyl version) at the Nuclear Blast USA webstore.

NAPALM DEATH – The leaders of the extreme post their new video clip

June 12th, 2010

The undisputed leaders of the extreme, NAPALM DEATH, just finished a new video clip for the song “On The Brink Of Extinction”. The track is taken from the stunning “Time Waits For No Slave” album and the video manages to perfectly mix the intensity of NAPALM DEATH live with the shocking brutality of mankind.

Singer Mark “Barney” Greenway explains the meaning behind “On The Brink Of Extinction”: “As regards the meaning of the song, we wanted to convey that the process of evolution is an amazing thing, but also to say that as human beings we have the ability to assist where other beings suffer. In other words, we don’t just let the rule of ‘survival of the fittest’ dictate that we should just stand back and either allow things to go into decline or participate in it.”

The video was recorded and edited by Daniel Brand with animations by Danny Bacchus and you can check out the video clip on the band’s official MySpace Profile and leave your comment:

Furthermore, the band is currently crisscrossing the globe from Europe over to Australia and Japan before returning to Europe on the Campaign For Musical Destruction Tour in November/December 2010 with Immolation, Waking The Cadaver and more. Stay tuned for more details and see below all upcoming shows by the masters of grindcore!
