Australian metallers Mortal Sin split up

Mortal Sin

Mortal Sin

“It’s time the rumours were laid to rest. Yes, Mortal Sin is finished. Due to changing personal circumstances, as well as priorities, Luke and Nathan have both decided that their time with the band is at an end. This decision was not made lightly, and was not a result of the actions and words made by other parties who would lead you to believe it was. The truth is, without passion, conviction, and love for the music you play, being in a band means nothing. While Andy, Dave and myself could easily continue and find new band members, without the core songwriting unit from the last two albums, it wouldn’t be Mortal Sin. We’re extremely proud of our last album Psychology of Death, and we’ve completed the longest and most intense tour of the band’s career – the Thrashfest Classics tour. These two milestones are a fitting way to close the 25 year journey that was Mortal Sin. On behalf of Mortal Sin, I’d like to thank you – the fans – for staying loyal to a band that’s had more ups and downs than any other in Australia. Without you, this journey would have ended long ago. For those who’d like to follow the future musical exploits of this final lineup, Dave’s band Nekrofeist are about to release their new album, my band The Seer just released a new single, and Luke will continue playing with his cover bands. We sincerely apologise to those who hoped to see us on the road in the shows we had booked.

Thank you, and goodbye – Ryan Huthnance, Mortal Sin.”

4ARM TOUR AUSTRALIA WITH DESTRUCTION AND MORTAL SIN

September 15th, 2011

Destruction are legendary in thrash circles, and the best news of all is that they are back. Not only with a new album, but thrash fans all over the country will be warming up their necks for some serious head-banging at the news that Destruction will be touring Australia this November. Joining them for the ride will be Australian thrash pioneers, Mortal Sin, and established Melbourne act, 4ARM.

For almost 30 years, the name Destruction has been almost synonymous with high energy thrash. The south German act has never veered from their ethos of never backing down from creating pure thrash. Now, the three-piece are back with another thrash metal gem, Day Of Reckoning, and will be unleashing it upon Australian audiences.. Released earlier this year, the album shows the band at its most fierce, brutal and thrashy. Here Destruction pay tribute to their roots and easily revive that old school speedy feeling.

Says vocalist Schmier of the album, “If you think Destruction is an old band, this album will prove you wrong! The speed and energy combined with a basic, fresh and aggressive production will make this record an outstanding classic of our long discography.”

Beginning way back in 1985, Mortal Sin, could probably be considered Australia’s first thrash metal band. Their first album, Mayhemic Destruction, saw them gain much attention at home and abroad, while a quiet period during the 1990’s saw them emerge again in 2004 for a tour with Anthrax and a European tour. Now in 2011, the band are set to release their newest epic, Psychology Of Death, on September 23.

Having just completed their third album, Submission For Liberty, 4ARM are chomping at the bit for its release. By joining this tour, fans are given the opportunity to experience some of the album’s ferocity and supercharged riffage in a live setting, before it’s 2012 release.

This triple header of thrash will be devastating metal fans around the country. So get on board and do not miss Destruction causing devastation and ruin in a town near you.

Tour dates as follows…

11/03/11 ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA, FOWLERS LIVE

11/04/11 MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, PRINCE OF WALES

11/05/11 SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, THE GAELIC CLUB

11/06/11 BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, THE HI-FI

Tickets for the upcoming tour will be released momentarily through respected ticketing outlets and venues.

The 15th -16th of August 2008

Finland is definitely one hell of a paradise for metalheads as there are five to six metal festivals arranged all around Finland during the summer time. One of those metal festivals which has started becoming more and more known is Jalometalli up in the north of Finland. The whole festival started as a small event, mostly consisting of local bands. Jalometalli has since grown, attracting plenty of killer and catchy names such as Onslaught, Testament, and Rotting Christ.  This year’s event was no exception with several first time visitors such as Overkill, Trouble and Mortal Sin. It is obvious most of these bands have been all time favs of the Jalometalli organization. The festival is not a big massive gathering of tens of thousands of people. Instead, the event is a small, true, intense metal event with visitors having travelled from far away. This is the very first time ever when Jalometalli festival is covered by Metal-Rules.com. And if you live somewhere in the northern part of Sweden, Norway or Russia, start seriously considering having a roadtrip to the next Jalometalli event as the line-up of 2009 will surely be full of pleasant surprises…
Enjoy the article and some video clips in it, too!

WACKEN 2008

October 14th, 2008

Wacken Open Air 2008

Once again tens of thousands of lunatic metal freaks travelled from all over the world to the small German village located in the middle of the beautiful northern German countryside. The small peaceful Wacken literally goes upside down when nearly 80.000 conquer the village during one weekend in a year. Wacken Open Air celebrated its 19th birthday from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August, whose biggest headliner ever in the history of Wacken was Iron Maiden. Despite Iron Maiden being the biggest name on the bill, however there were tons of other interesting and fascinating names.

Brat: The mass convergence of catholic youth in Sydney for World Youth Day the week Ray and I left brought a smile to my face and a feeling of warmth as I realised it wouldn’t be long until I was part of a similar pilgrimage but to Hamburg Germany and with two major differences—where Sydney was awash with colourful youth, Hamburg would be invaded by a swarm of black; and the trolley suitcases carrying clothing would instead be trolleys full of beer; songs of the gospel would be replaced by metal anthems. They came to worship at the cross—we to worship at the flaming longhorn but we all would display our nations’ flags proudly.

Tickets for W:O:A 2008 sold phenomenally fast. The special edition X-mas pack with extra goodie bag sold out before I could take a long breath after my 2007 trip. By February the official festival ticket seller was “SOLD OUT”. Suddenly the ebay market was flooded with tickets with one ticket reaching a record price of 800 British Pounds—obscene. Even in July with less than 1 month before the festival, there was an average of 5 new listings a day for tickets, which nullified all “SOLD OUT” credibility. (Brat)

First Annual Australian Heavy Metal Music Awards / Metal For The Brain 2005

April 19th, 2005

First Annual Australian
Heavy Metal Music Awards

Review and Pics by Brat

With a healthy dose of cynicism I attended the first Annual Australian Heavy Metal Music Awards in Canberra the night before Metal for the Brain (MFTB). Brought to us by the Australian edition of Kerrang Magazine and the organisers of MFTB, I decided to give our scene some support and cast my vote in the categories even though I didn?t think any of the people and bands I voted for would get a mention. How wonderfully was I surprised.
