Shawn Drover of MEGADETH
Interview by EvilG
All live photos by Lord of The Wasteland except
the below photo from Shawn’s MySpace page.
Shawn Drover isn’t the usual mouthpiece for Megadeth as we’ve all read/see countless interviews with the legend himself, Dave Mustaine. So when given the opportunity to speak with Shawn, I was interested to hear his story on Megadeth, the line-up changes (especially surrounding the departure of his brother Glen from Megadeth), and the status of his previous band Eidolon which is currently on hiatus…read on!

JAMES LOMENZO
Brooklyn born James Lomenzo started his musician career in the late 70′s. His first bands included such names as Empty Sky, Clockwork and Rondinelli but it wasn’t until 1984 before he found big success after joining hard rock band White Lion. PRIDE was released in 1987 and with the help of hit singles “Wait” and “When Children Cry” it sold over two million copies in U.S alone. That band did huge tours opening for names like Aerosmith, Ozzy and AC/DC and they were on the top of their game. Ironically named BIG GAME came out two years later but although it failed to reach its predecessor sales, it still went to gold. The last White Lion album MAIN ATTRACTION was released in 1991 but its sales figures stayed proportionally low. James and drummer Greg D’Angelo left the soon to be disbanded group in 1991. James’s following years included touring with former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and forming a brand new band called Pride and Glory together with Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Brian Tichy. Unfortunately, that band didn’t last too long and they split up after just one album which was released in 1994. James and Brian Tichy continued working together and joined Slash’s Snakepit -touring in 1995. Few years later James joined David Lee Roth’s band and recorded the album DIAMOND DAVE with him. In 2004 Zakk Wylde asked James to join his Black Label Society and James agreed. HANGOVER MUSIC VOL 4 came out soon and although James briefly split again with Zakk, he soon returned and another album MAFIA came out in 2005. Later, on the same year, James decided to leave Black Label Society for the last time and try to find some new challenges. It wasn’t too long before it was announced that James was chosen as new bassist for legendary thrash metal band Megadeth. James played his first show with the band in March 2006 in Dubai. UNITED ABOMINATIONS was released in May of 2007 and since its release band has been more or a less constantly on tour across the world. Band started their European leg of the tour on last February from Helsinki and then we were able to sit down with James and talk about various topics including the current state of Megadeth, James’s work with some of his former bands as well as about many other interesting things…

Report and pics by Luxi Lahtinen & Niko Karppinen
Sauna Open Air Metal Festival 2007 entertained approximately 22,000 metal warriors within 3 hot and sunny days. Almost 10,000 people appeared on Saturday, 8th of June, which was undoubtedly the biggest day of the festival thanks to both Dimmu Borgir´s and Type O Negative´s attendance. The Sauna Open Air Metal Festival opened its gates for metalheads for the 4th time in the whole history of this well-organized festival. The settings were probably the best so far for a great, all-aged, metallic event. At least the four main headlining acts that were booked to Sauna 2007 – Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Type O Negative and Heaven & Hell – placed four unbeatable aces on the table. It seemed that the impossible had a splendid chance to become possible… and that´s – what I believe, happened eventually.
Two curiosities – and let’s even say, somewhat relatively experienced reporters from Metal-Rules.com – crept through the gates of Sauna Open Air Metal Festival, and the following honest observations were made on the happenings during this metallic feast…

Shawn Drover of Eidolon Interviewed by Anders Sandvall
Thanks to Lars Chriss at Escapi Music Group for setting up the interview. Promo pictures provided by Escapi Music Group
Recently I hooked up with one of the Drover brothers, drummer Shawn Drover, to talk about their band Eidolon that just released a new album. In the interview we talk about Eidolon’s past, present, and future. Besides playing in Eidolon, both brothers are also busy members in Megadeth.

Intro/outro by Luxi ?got-some-tan? Lahtinen
Relentless commentary, bullshitting, teeth-gnashing, headaches, photographing, documenting of all kinds, etc. by Luxi ?show-no-fucking-mercy? Lahtinen & Niko ?metal-up-yer-fucking-ass? Karppinen
Sauna Open Air Metal -festival was held for the 2nd time in its entire history ? and this year the organizers of the festival had succeeded to book 3 internationally big names for the festival to headline each of the 3 days; Slayer, Megadeth and Dio; not to forget the Swedish Pain either as the fourth international band for the festival. Last year was a real success for the festival organizers already, bringing approx. 6000 metal fans to the venue for one day to enjoy such bands as Lordi, Finntroll, Children of Bodom, Thunderstone, etc. ? and of course the festival?s biggest name Nightwish.
This year nearly 7000 Metal fans gathered together with each of the 3 days being nearly sold-out or completely sold-out. So from an attendance point of view there?s undoubtedly going to be a continuation of this festival for the next year at leas and that?s what all Metal fans hope for, that?s for sure.

Megadeth in Stockholm, Sweden

Review by Marko Syrjala and Jarno Huovila
Pictures by Marko Syrjala
In 2004, just as the sparkle of hope glowed dim, Dave Mustaine struck back with the excellent new album ‘The System Has Failed’, which especially after the less than stellar ‘The World Needs A Hero’ release, was a most welcome return to the high standard of song writing that we’ve come to expect from Dave. After the album release Mustaine surprisingly announced that the forth coming tour will be definitely be their last ever. Now they are now midst of their farewell tour called "Blackmail The Universe" and we were lucky to witness bands brilliant performance in Stockholm.
