TESTAMENT’s BILLY: MUSTAINE ‘Must Be Back On Drugs To Think What He Is Saying Makes Any Sense’

August 17th, 2012

Members of TESTAMENT and BROKEN HOPE have slammed MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine for implying during a concert that Barack Obama was somehow responsible for recent mass shootings in Colorado and Wisconsin.

While performing with MEGADETH on August 7 in Singapore, Mustaine told the crowd, “Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban. So he’s staging all of these murders, like the Fast And Furious thing down at the border and Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple.”

He continued: “I don’t know where I’m gonna live if America keeps going the way it’s going because it looks like it’s turning into Nazi America.”

“I think he must be back on drugs to even think what he is saying makes any sense,” TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy, whose band has toured with MEGADETH many times before, told New York’s Daily News.

“There is freedom of speech and there just putting your foot in your mouth.”

“I’d like to see Mustaine face any of the victims from either tragedy and tell them that Obama did this to them,” said BROKEN HOPE guitarist Jeremy Wagner. “In fact, Mustaine, tell that to Ashley Moser who had a bullet lodged in her throat, a gunshot wound to her abdomen, and lost her 6-year-old daughter Veronica Moser-Sullivan when James Holmes fired upon them.

“I’m one of thousands who wish Mustaine would just keep his volatile mouth shut,” added Wagner.

“I find it hard to accept this diatribe at face value,” former RIP magazine editor Lonn M. Friend told the Daily News. “I go back 25 years with Mustaine and have long found him to be both a creative and conscious artist, a spiritual man who has battled and survived some pretty savage demons. These accusations are lunacy and just don’t sound like the evolved rocker I know. Maybe he broke a string.”

During yesterday’s appearance on InfoWars.com, a web site run by radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, Mustaine attempted to put his words in context and answer some questions. When asked what he really meant about what he said on stage, Mustaine explained, “To clarify things, no one can deny that there were criminal rogues in the administration. CBS News got the memos, Congress has the information and basically, Larry Pratt, the head of Gun Owners of America, who is a highly respected person, said that if they would stage ‘Fast And Furious,’ they’d be capable of staging anything. He continued, “And it was all done to blame the Second Amendment. We’d be fools not to look at this. Our U.S. border patrol agents were killed. And like I said, I was just quoting Larry Pratt. That’s it bottom line.”

Mustaine also admitted that he could have chosen different words to express himself. He told Jones, “In the heat of the moment, when you’re onstage and you’re talking, sometimes you’re not as eloquent as you’d like to be. But like I said, I was just quoting what Larry said.” He added, “We really need to investigate this and we need to have the Attorney General release the documents and find out who’s responsible for this. People died and the democratic process says, ‘Let’s investigate this. Let’s find out what’s going on here.’”

Mustaine wrapped up the interview by saying, “I’m a patriot. I’ve always been controversial. I’m a political songwriter. And this wasn’t done to hurt any of my fellow countrymen. I think that it’s something that we really, really need to look into.

“I love our country and I respect it, my whole thing with this is that I think we should just look into it. I just think that we deserve to know the truth — that’s it.”

NIKKI SIXX – as posted to https://www.facebook.com/nikkisixxofficial

MÖTLEY CRÜE’s Nikki Sixx has posted the following statement on Facebook regarding MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine’s rant at the band’s August 7th performance at Fort Canning Park in Singapore saying that US President Barack Obama “staged” the Aurora Massacre and the Sikh temple attack in suburban Milwaukee:

“Dave Mustaine is (a) fucking asshole. I can’t even imagine how deep this cuts the victims families of these shootings.

He owes every family an apology as well as our great country..

Hey Dave if you think America is turning into ‘Nazi America’ as you are quoted saying.. Then move the fuck out…”

HELLFEST FESTIVAL 2012

Hellfest Festival 2012

15th – 17th June 2012

Review by Kirsty Birkett-Stubbs

Move over Batman – there’s a new symbol dominating the night sky as Hellfest’s mighty H calls brothers to arms for a weekend, that quite frankly, would strike fear into the heart of many a-charging army. As one of the official t-shirt’s states: Keep repeating – it’s only music… it’s only music… it’s only music…

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival – Helsinki Finland June 27-29, 2012

July 28th, 2012

Tuska Open Air 2012

Suvilahti, Helsinki, Finland

June 27-29, 2012

The Tuska Open Air Festival is definitely a real metal festival institution amongst all other metal festivals in Europe. This current area, Sivulahti, almost located in the heart of Helsinki, only a few kilometers away from the downtown, is a new home for Tuska for the second time. Suvilahti is more like an industrial environment with the burning and hot asphalt underfoot. When raining, at least the area won’t turn to one hell of a big mud fest.

Another thing forcing Tuska to make a change was the date. Originally the festival was supposed to be at the beginning of July, but another big more international based festival took over the date and Tuska was postponed until three weeks later. Well at least some people got pissed off at the changed date. Obviously a few band negotiations needed to start all over. Hopefully Tuska will return back to the original date.

The line-up looked once again – amazing. Megadeth and Ministry and of course the Swedish war trad metallers were headliners, but Lamb Of God had to pull out of Tuska because of the arrest of the frontman in Republic Czechia and was replaced by Finntroll and Animals As Leaders had to cancel as the band managed to miss the flight. Of course a few cult metal bands like Saint Vitus, A.R.G. could be witnessed. The festival was an utter success although the event wasn’t sold out. All in all 26,000 people visited Tuska during three days.

Metal-Rules.com was present to check out a lot of bands and enjoy the sun and rain.

Rob Zombie / Megadeth / Lacuna Coil

Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain

Scranton, Pennsylvania

May 12, 2012

Review and pics by InfamousButcher

Road veterans Megadeth have been very busy lately. Riding the Big 4 wave, master shredder Dave Mustaine and the boys put out new album TH1RT3EN in November 2011 and revived the Gigantour festival with Motorhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil for a North American Tour. Now following a short break, they are back on the road again with Rob Zombie and Lacuna Coil. As a huge Megadeth fan, I feel very fortunate they do so many tours, we have seen them 9 times in the last 2 and a half years!

NEW DATES ANNOUNCED FOR THE ROB ZOMBIE/MEGADETH MAY 2012 TOUR

March 28th, 2012

Rob Zombie’s “Golden Tickets” Now Available
Zombie to Begin Recording New Album
“Lords of Salem” in Post-Production

The wait is over, Zombie lovers! Rob Zombie has announced that he and his band of maniacs – John 5, Piggy D and Ginger Fish – will enter the studio on June 1 to begin recording the next chapter in the Zombie musical legacy. This new, as yet untitled CD is set for a late 2012 release.

“It has been way, and I mean way too long without any new music. I am dying to get back to it,” said Zombie. “I have not felt this much excitement within the band since recording the first Hellbilly Deluxe record almost 15 years ago. We have been working on tons of songs for quite some time and I can safely say this will definitely be our best record yet.”

Rob Zombie Band 3<

L-R: Piggy D, Rob Zombie, John 5, Ginger Fish

Before Lord Zombie and his band begin recording, they will hit the highway on a co-headline tour with metal legends Megadeth, marking the first time the two bands have toured together since the early 90s.

“This tour should be a blast,” said Zombie. “I haven’t shared a bill with Megadeth since way back in the early days of White Zombie, so this trek is long overdue.”

Two new dates have been added to the U.S. trek – May 13 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, and May 19 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO. The tour, which kicks off Friday, May 11 in Holmdel, NJ, will encompass high-profile appearances at several rock festivals, including Rock On The Range (May 20) that Zombie will co-headline with Incubus, and Rocklahoma (May 26) that Zombie will headline. Zombie will bring his full, explosive stage show out in full force on these dates, and audiences will get what they expect – a true rock and roll spectacle at its finest. Zombie will close all shows on the Megadeth dates.

For these Zombie/Megadeth dates, Rob Zombie has teamed up with The One and Only to make available special VIP Golden Tickets. Two packages have been created to help insure that fans have an unforgettable experience at the show.

Package One includes a GA ticket, priority early entry to help guarantee a great spot for the show, a customized Zombie Bag, limited edition poster, an exclusive-to-the-tour T-shirt, a commemorative VIP laminate, and Golden Ticket Rep Concierge Service. Package Two includes everything in Package One, PLUS a meet’n’greet with Rob Zombie, a high-quality photograph with Rob, and a Rob Zombie autograph. For more information on the Rob Zombie One and Only VIP Golden Tickets – OR – if you’ve already purchased a ticket for the show and would like to upgrade to one of these VIP packages – log onto robzombie.com.

Zombie’s latest film, “The Lords of Salem,” is currently in the final stages of post-production and promises to be Zombie’s most insane film yet. “I am enjoying taking my time finishing this film. I hate rushing things at this stage of the process, so it is a luxury to take it slow and really fine-tune every part of the production,” stated Zombie. No release date is set yet for the film.

Confirmed dates for the Rob Zombie/Megadeth U.S. tour are as follows:

MAY

11 PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ

The Big Four (Stampede Park)

Calgary, AB, Canada

Live review & pics by Monika Deviat

Gigantour, the traveling heavy metal festival created by frontman Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, stopped in Calgary Alta., on February 18, 2012 for the third time since the festival’s inception in 2005.  This year’s festival also featured England’s metal legends Motorhead, who probably played a large part in selling out the venue. Italy’s Lacuna Coil and Denmark’s Volbeat rounded out the bill and added a bit of diversity.  Unfortunately the tour hit one of the worst large venues in Calgary for sound. The Big Four building is a concrete box with large pillars breaking up the sound and view. Surprisingly though, the overall sound for the evening was fairly decent. One great idea someone had was to have the line-up for doors inside the building. Underneath the hall where the bands played, a corral was set up (how fitting for a city known as Cowtown) for fans to line up (get herded) and stay warm.

Gigantour is a chance to, as Mustaine says, tour with like-minded artists “that play heavy music in a high-energy environment,” with a fan-friendly ticket price. He founded the tour in 2005 and invited such artists as ANTHRAX, DREAM THEATER, FEAR FACTORY, LAMB OF GOD, OPETH, STATIC-X, and IN FLAMES to join Megadeth. For Lacuna Coil, Gigantour 2012 marks a return to the tour, as they performed on the 2007 Australian tour; the Italian heavy metal group’s singer Cristina Scabbia also appeared on Megadeth’ 2007 re-recording of their song, ‘A Tout Le Monde’.

METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, SLAYER Perform ‘Overkill’ At ‘Big Four’ Show In NYC

September 15th, 2011

The “Big Four” bands of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX — played their second-ever U.S. show earlier tonight (Wednesday, September 14) at the new Yankee Stadium in New York City.

The highly anticipated onstage performance of the “Big Four” bands at the same time happened near the end of METALLICA’s set, between “Enter Sandman” and “Battery”. Members of ANTHRAX, SLAYER, MEGADETH and EXODUS (whose guitarist, Gary Holt, is still filling in for an ailing Jeff Hanneman of SLAYER) joined METALLICA on stage for a cover of MOTÖRHEAD’s “Overkill” before METALLICA ended the night with “Seek & Destroy”.

Video footage of the “Overkill” performance can be seen below.

METALLICA’s setlist was as follows:

01. Creeping Death

02. For Whom The Bell Tolls

03. Fuel

04. Ride The Lightning

05. Fade To Black

06. Cyanide

07. All Nightmare Long

08. Sad But True

09. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

10. Orion

11. One

12. Master Of Puppets

13. Blackened

14. Nothing Else Matters

15. Enter Sandman

The first U.S. “Big Four” concert took place on April 23 in Indio, California.

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told RollingStone.com after the Indio show that there was a possibility of gigs in the South and Midwest, although he doubted a full tour would happen.

The all-day event in Indio featured the so-called “Big Four” bands of the Eighties thrash metal scene performing together on a U.S. stage for the first time ever in their 30-year careers.

A series of similar shows last summer in Europe was wildly popular, leading to demand for a U.S. version. The “Big Four” package also played several more European dates this past July.

All four bands were presented with awards for sales of a hundred thousand copies of a “Big Four” live DVD which was released late last year.
