Nothing on, above, or below this earth was going to keep me away from the Gothic Theater last week, where MAYHEM, the most notorious primogenitors of Norwegian black metal, came to perform. For those unfamiliar with the band’s long, bloody, awful history, I won’t recount much of it here: it’s readily found online or in full-length books. The short version is: original vocalist kills himself, guitarist is murdered by bassist, who burned down several ancient churches in the 90’s. All of this occurred before the band could release their first full-length album DE MYSTERIIS DOM SATHANAS. To this day, it is considered to be one of the most influential black metal albums ever recorded. But first..

Once again here we are again as the Finnish Metal-Rules.com two-man-team made their annual road trip to Sweden Rock. The 2016 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock as usual. Over 70 bands offered one hell of an experience for the attendees during the four day festival. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past ten years always being sold out like this year. However, it took a bit longer until all the tickets were gone this year. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. It was sad to see the final show by Twisted Sister, but of course fabulous to see a whole bunch of other bands. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!

The second edition of the Copenhell Festival in Copenhagen Denmark took place at the middle of June and the venue was held at the same place at last year, the old industrial area at Refshaloen located a few minutes outside downtown Copenhagen. Bands like Korn, Judas Priest, Deicide, Morbid Angel and Anvil performed at we thought it was time to head over and to pay the festival a visit. Check out our review of the festival! Metal Hammer Germany met up with MAYHEM at Wacken Open Air 2011. In the following interview, bassist Necrobutcher reveals he’ll meet up with a Christian Preacher soon, to let him try to exorcise the demon in him. Of course, Necrobutcher considers the churchman a quack and looks forward to kicking his ass.

Finland is definitely one hell of a paradise for metalheads as there are five to six metal festivals arranged all around Finland during the summer time. One of those metal festivals which has started becoming more and more known is Jalometalli up in the north of Finland. The whole festival started as a small event, mostly consisting of local bands. Jalometalli has since grown, attracting plenty of killer and catchy names such as Onslaught, Testament, and Rotting Christ. This year’s event was no exception with several first time visitors such as Overkill, Trouble and Mortal Sin. It is obvious most of these bands have been all time favs of the Jalometalli organization. The festival is not a big massive gathering of tens of thousands of people. Instead, the event is a small, true, intense metal event with visitors having travelled from far away. This is the very first time ever when Jalometalli festival is covered by Metal-Rules.com. And if you live somewhere in the northern part of Sweden, Norway or Russia, start seriously considering having a roadtrip to the next Jalometalli event as the line-up of 2009 will surely be full of pleasant surprises…
