MARTY FRIEDMAN and Jinxx of BLACK VEIL BRIDES Join Forces on New Track “Sorrow and Madness”

July 25th, 2017

MARTY FRIEDMAN teamed up with Jinxx of massive rock group Black Veil Brides to record the soaring track “Sorrow and Madness”, available on Marty’s brand new album, Wall Of Sound (Jinxx recorded violin on the track). The album will be released on August 4, 2017 via Prosthetic Records. You can stream the track for the first time today, alongside an in-depth interview with Marty and Jinxx, via Alternative Press Magazine. Listen/read here: http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/marty_friedman_black_veil_brides_jinxx_wall_of_sound_interview

MARTY FRIEDMAN tells AP: “This song is a good barometer for the record. I’m hugely into big contrasts, and there’s nothing subtle in what we’ve done with “Sorrow And Madness”. It expands both of us-it’s something that people won’t expect, and it made us both grow so much. I’m so proud of what we’ve done on this song.”

Jinxx adds: “Let’s just say that Marty took a little violin melody I wrote and moved it to another level… to outer space! One day I sent him my idea, and three days later he replied with his take on it, and it blew my mind! If you’ve ever seen the movie Amadeus, it was like when Mozart sits down at the piano and plays Salieri’s little ditty! It was amazing to listen to!”

June 13th, 2017

Featuring Support from Special Guests SCALE THE SUMMIT and THE FINE CONSTANT

New Album, Wall Of Sound, out August 4, 2017 via Prosthetic Records

Following last week’s album announcement, MARTY FRIEDMAN is now set to unveil his headlining tour in support of his latest scorcher, Wall Of Sound. The 22-show trek will feature support from Houston’s top progressive outfit, Scale the Summit, along with Madison, WI-based technical progressive three-piece, The Fine Constant. The tour kicks off in Philadelphia on August 2, just two days before Wall Of Sound is released.

Friedman comments, “We`re coming to you direct from Tokyo, to make you smile or make you cry, or even drag you up on stage with us. What`s for sure is that we will definitely get your blood pumping.”

About the band, in Friedman’s own words: “Kiyoshi is the most aggressive bassist on the planet. You will either fall in love with her, admire her skills or both. Jordan Ziff is an up-and-coming guitar superstar. The youngest of the select few who have played beside me in the band. Anup Sastry (on the first week of the USA tour) played drums on Inferno as well as Wall Of Sound, and is the most innovative young drummer I`ve ever seen. Chargeeee (on the remainder of the USA tour) has been my touring drummer for 8 years – he steals the show from me every night. He has an inhuman amount of energy.”

Guitar Virtuoso JASON BECKER Creates New Music

October 4th, 2016

Jason Becker is one of the world’s most precious talents and true warriors. Becker has written a full album of amazing music to be performed and recorded by many of his peers. This album will comprise of a few compositions that have been waiting for this moment to be recorded, to many new pieces recently written – To accomplish this, he needs your support! Be a part of this album!

Click here to be on #TeamBecker: https://igg.me/at/JasonBeckerNewAlbum/188528

Becker is giving out some the most kick-ass perks from T-shirts, signed CD’s, a signed guitar from Joe Bonamassa, to your name credited on the album.

Becker is considered a virtuoso guitarist and one of the top players of his time. He studied the works of violinist Niccolò Paganini and rearranged Paganini’s 5th Caprice, which Becker then performed this masterpiece during an instructional guitar video. Becker’s compositions often include high speed scalar and arpeggio passages—trademarks of his ‘shred’ style of guitar playing.

Jason Becker began his career as a Shrapnel recording artist by joining forces with guitar virtuoso Marty Friedman to form seminal progressive metal pioneers, “Cacophony.” Amassing worldwide acclaim as a guitar virtuoso, Becker came to the attention of David Lee Roth who he later joined and recorded one album with him, A Little Ain’t Enough. Becker’s performing career was cut short by Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In 1996, Becker lost the ability to speak, and he now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father.

This project is exactly the kind of record that the Jason Becker fans have been waiting for. Now YOU can be a part of his new project with just one click!

Kreator & Arch Enemy @ The Forum, London

Kreator & Arch Enemy @ The Forum, London

18th December 2014

Review By Tim Bolitho-Jones

Photos By Graham Hilling

Kreator

Kreator

Without meaning to disrespect their rivals, it’s pretty fair to say that Kreator are the biggest non-American thrash band in the world. Since 2001’s ‘Violent Revolution,’ they’ve been on a constant upward trajectory and haven’t delivered a bad album for thirteen years. They’re one of the few bands whose post-millennial output has been arguably better than the stuff they did in the eighties (yeah, we went there) and tonight’s high octane show at the Forum, co-headlining with Arch Enemy demonstrates they’re just as capable live as on record. It’s also one of the few occasions where a band winds up throwing bits of birthday cake into the crowd. Read the rest of this entry »

MARTY FRIEDMAN

INTERVIEW AND PHOTOS BY MARKO SYRJALA

Marty Friedman is an American guitarist, best known for his career as the lead/rhythm guitarist for Megadeth which spanned nearly the full decade of the 1990s. During that period, the band reached its commercial peak and released several classic albums including RUST IN PEACE, COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION and YOUTHANASIA. Marty’s last album with the band was RISK (1999) and after the following tour he quit the band. Later on, Friedman relocated in Tokyo where he’s been living since 2003. Friedman has been visibly active in Japan. He’s hosted several TV and radio shows and works with various Japanese musicians. Friedman has released several solo albums, first of those were released prior his Megadeth tenure, and he just put out INFERNO which is his 12th solo release to date. This spring, Friedman finally returned to Finland, for the first time since the Risk tour. The current tour, titled GUITAR UNIVERSE 2, also features Friedman’s long-time friend Gus G. and it started in Helsinki on May 2nd. ORPHANED LAND have made international headlines recently for their hard work to unite fans in Arabic countries through heavy metal, even giving away their most recent album, ‘The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR’, to fans in these countries (as well as the United States). Now, another exciting announcement has come from the camp as guitarist Yossi Sassi has been invited to share the stage with former Megadeth guitar virtuoso MARTY FRIEDMAN for his upcoming show in Israel on May 31st at Reading 3 Club in Tel Aviv.

Yossi comments, “Although I have shared stages with Metallica, Iron Maiden and many others, I’m excited more than ever to cooperate with Marty on the same stage, shoulder to shoulder. His recordings with the legendary Jason Becker were one of the milestones for me as a guitarist, through his wonderful solos with Megadeth to his current impressive solo career. Since the beginning of our relationship, Marty seems to be as pleasant and professional as one can be during mutual preperations towards the show together. I believe we’ll produce nice work together, in the upcoming show and beyond.”

As state above, ORPHANED LAND have posted ‘The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR’ online for download by fans in Arabic countries as well as the US. Jimmy DeGrasso – Alice Cooper, Hail!, F5, ex- Megadeth, Y&T, Suicidal Tendencies

January 20th, 2010
Jimmy DeGrasso

JIMMY DeGRASSO

INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICTURES  BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

TRANSCRIPTION BY PETTERI LIMNELL, EVILG AND RICK

American born drummer Jimmy DeGrasso is probably best known for his work with Megadeth, but he’s also been involved with many other interesting bands and projects during his long career.  In mid 80’s, after moving from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, Jimmy first did studio sessions with the “Prince of Darkness” himself, Ozzy Osbourne, before getting his first permanent job from Californian rockers Y & T in 1986. After many successful years with them, Jimmy decided to leave Y & T in 1990 and in the subsequent years he toured with such names as Lita Ford and Alice in Chains before joining the thrash/punk/hardcore crossover  group Suicidal Tendencies in 2004. Unfortunately, the band broke up soon later and next Jimmy joined Alice Cooper’s touring band. He’s been working with Alice on and off since then. In 1998 he joined Megadeth and stayed with them until the band (temporarily) disbanded in 2002. Today Jimmy is a highly sought after session and touring drummer.  He’s also a full time member of all-star band “HAIL!” along with his former Megadeth bandmate David Ellefsson, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser, and vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens. Jimmy has also another band with Ellefsson called F5 and they released the album THE RECKONING in 2008.  In  December (2009) Jimmy came to Finland with Alice Cooper and then I had a chance to sit down with him and discuss his past, present and near future plans. MEGADETH – James Lomenzo

May 8th, 2008

BLS.jpg

 front1.jpg

JAMES LOMENZO

Brooklyn born James Lomenzo started his musician career in the late 70’s. His first bands included such names as Empty Sky, Clockwork and Rondinelli but it wasn’t until 1984 before he found big success after joining hard rock band White Lion. PRIDE was released in 1987 and with the help of hit singles “Wait” and “When Children Cry” it sold over two million copies in U.S alone. That band did huge tours opening for names like Aerosmith, Ozzy and AC/DC and they were on the top of their game. Ironically named BIG GAME came out two years later but although it failed to reach its predecessor sales, it still went to gold. The last White Lion album MAIN ATTRACTION was released in 1991 but its sales figures stayed proportionally low. James and drummer Greg D’Angelo left the soon to be disbanded group in 1991. James’s following years included touring with former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley and forming a brand new band called Pride and Glory together with Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Brian Tichy. Unfortunately, that band didn’t last too long and they split up after just one album which was released in 1994. James and Brian Tichy continued working together and joined Slash’s Snakepit -touring in 1995. Few years later James joined David Lee Roth’s band and recorded the album DIAMOND DAVE with him. In 2004 Zakk Wylde asked James to join his Black Label Society and James agreed. HANGOVER MUSIC VOL 4 came out soon and although James briefly split again with Zakk, he soon returned and another album MAFIA came out in 2005. Later, on the same year, James decided to leave Black Label Society for the last time and try to find some new challenges.  It wasn’t too long before it was announced that James was chosen as new bassist for legendary thrash metal band Megadeth. James played his first show with the band in March 2006 in Dubai. UNITED ABOMINATIONS was released in May of 2007 and since its release band has been more or a less constantly on tour across the world. Band started their European leg of the tour on last February from Helsinki and then we were able to sit down with James and talk about various topics including the current state of Megadeth, James’s work with some of his former bands as well as about many other interesting things…
