The Tuska Open Air Festival is definitely a real metal festival institution amongst all other metal festivals in Europe. This current area, Sivulahti, almost located in the heart of Helsinki, only a few kilometers away from the downtown, is a new home for Tuska for the second time. Suvilahti is more like an industrial environment with the burning and hot asphalt underfoot. When raining, at least the area won’t turn to one hell of a big mud fest.
Another thing forcing Tuska to make a change was the date. Originally the festival was supposed to be at the beginning of July, but another big more international based festival took over the date and Tuska was postponed until three weeks later. Well at least some people got pissed off at the changed date. Obviously a few band negotiations needed to start all over. Hopefully Tuska will return back to the original date.
The line-up looked once again – amazing. Megadeth and Ministry and of course the Swedish war trad metallers were headliners, but Lamb Of God had to pull out of Tuska because of the arrest of the frontman in Republic Czechia and was replaced by Finntroll and Animals As Leaders had to cancel as the band managed to miss the flight. Of course a few cult metal bands like Saint Vitus, A.R.G. could be witnessed. The festival was an utter success although the event wasn’t sold out. All in all 26,000 people visited Tuska during three days.
Metal-Rules.com was present to check out a lot of bands and enjoy the sun and rain.

LOCK UP: Bassist Dan Lilker to Tour With Group in North America!
January 19th, 2012
LOCK UP, the death-grind super group featuring Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH, VENOMOUS CONCEPT), Nicolas Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR), Tomas Lindberg (AT THE GATES, DISFEAR) and Anton Reisenegger (CRIMINAL, PENTAGRAM) will make their North American debut this February. Due to prior commitments with NAPALM DEATH, Shane Embury will not be able to tour with the band. Filling in on the trek is the equally legendary Dan Lilker (NUCLEAR ASSAULT, BRUTAL TRUTH, S.O.D., VENOMOUS CONCEPT).
“It’s a pleasure and an honor to (briefly) step in for Mr. Shane Embury and hold down the bass for LOCK UP for these East Coast shows,” commented Lilker. “Hope to see all the grindfreaks come out and experience the mayhem. Full speed ahead, fuckers!”

“Having known Nick and Shane (a.k.a. the sumo tag team of grindcore) since the late 80′s its always great to get together with old friends and make some noise in the studio. Necropolis Transparent by far, surpasses what we achieved together back in 1999 with Pleasures Pave Sewers in terms of brutality, speed and song writing along with the help of new guitarist Anton Reisenegger. For me personally ,it was quite refreshing and great fun to do something this extreme, especially with my mates Nick, Shane and CARCASS mainman Jeff Walker swinging by the studio to handle guest vocal duties and help us drink way too much.
I have to say that Necropolis Transparent is way more than just another grindcore album, it has elements of everything that represents brutal and extreme-An absolute MUST for everyone out there that like their metal full of aggression, violence and pure savagery. BUY OR DIE!!!”

LOCK UP: HYPOCRISY and CARCASS Members Guest on New Album

Lock Up - Necropolis Transparent
LOCK UP’s upcoming release, Necropolis Transparent, will feature several guest appearances from HYPOCRISY/PAIN mainman (and one time LOCK UP vocalist) Peter Tägtgren along with Jeff Walker (CARCASS, BRUJERIA). Commented bassist Shane Embury:
“I always wanted Peter on the third album since he was on the first record LOCK UP we did. It made sense from a weird trilogy aspect to get him on the record. His tones compliment Tomas perfectly as well. I would have loved to have had Peter sing on more of the songs, but time was short as Peter was heavily involved with his new PAIN record. The songs he did sing on though made them extra special.
As for Jeff, well me and Jeff go so far back it’s unreal. We were mixing the album at Andy Sneap‘s and I wanted an extra vocal texture on a few tracks to spice it up. My voice is more hardcore and I wanted some extra gravel on things. It all seemed to make sense to Jeff once I had bribed him with a 12 pack of his favorite beer (laughs)!”
“It’s great that LOCK UP is back in the saddle again and that I could be apart of it,” commented Peter Tägtgren. “This album will tear you a new asshole!”
Jeff Walker added:
“I think it’s pretty fair to say that the current incarnation of LOCK UP have done the late Jesse Pintado more than proud!”
