Bloodstock has become something of a staple holiday for many metal heads, with its fine selection of musical delights, the drinking until dawn, great company, dressing up and of course the bin jousting! What more could you want besides all of this?

Paradise Lost + Lacuna Coil + Katatonia
@ The Roundhouse, Camden
November 3rd 2013
Review by Ellen Norvang
Photography by Nikki Ryan
Paradise Lost does not need an introduction to fans of gothic metal. It has been 25 years of existence for the Yorkshire boys. It has been 25 years with consistent bands members if you do not count the numerous changes on the drum kit. That is a long time for a band to exist and a long time for a band to maintain their own image, develop their own genre and influence several bands. It deserves a celebration and the setting is the Roundhouse in Camden, Sunday the 3rd of November 2013. What better season to celebrate and what better city to wrap up a UK tour that has been embracing the band’s quarter of a century journey.
Not only does Paradise Lost have a back catalogue and a fan base big enough to host an evening on their own, but the band have invited the finest support acts to join them on the anniversary tour.
LACUNA COIL have officially begun work on their upcoming new studio album, the highly-anticipated follow-up to ‘Dark Adrenaline,’ which was released in January 2012 and saw the band tour North America not only as headliners, but also on support runs with MEGADETH, MOTORHEAD and VOLBEAT, then SEVENDUST and COAL CHAMBER. LACUNA COIL has spent the past year touring the world in support of their new album, DARK ADRENALINE. Released earlier this year via Century Media Records, the album debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, selling nearly 20,000 units in its first week, and spawned the crushing first single “Trip The Darkness.” The band has sold upwards of 800,000 units in the US alone and with six full-length albums, two EPs, various singles and a DVD under their belt; LACUNA COIL maintains their prominent role in the modern rock scene.

Road veterans Megadeth have been very busy lately. Riding the Big 4 wave, master shredder Dave Mustaine and the boys put out new album TH1RT3EN in November 2011 and revived the Gigantour festival with Motorhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil for a North American Tour. Now following a short break, they are back on the road again with Rob Zombie and Lacuna Coil. As a huge Megadeth fan, I feel very fortunate they do so many tours, we have seen them 9 times in the last 2 and a half years!

Gigantour, the traveling heavy metal festival created by frontman Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, stopped in Calgary Alta., on February 18, 2012 for the third time since the festival’s inception in 2005. This year’s festival also featured England’s metal legends Motorhead, who probably played a large part in selling out the venue. Italy’s Lacuna Coil and Denmark’s Volbeat rounded out the bill and added a bit of diversity. Unfortunately the tour hit one of the worst large venues in Calgary for sound. The Big Four building is a concrete box with large pillars breaking up the sound and view. Surprisingly though, the overall sound for the evening was fairly decent. One great idea someone had was to have the line-up for doors inside the building. Underneath the hall where the bands played, a corral was set up (how fitting for a city known as Cowtown) for fans to line up (get herded) and stay warm.
In support of their new release, Dark Adrenaline , LACUNA COIL will perform an acoustic set and meet-and-greet with their fans at the Cobra Lounge in Chicago on February 10th! Presented by Metal Army America and Unholy Empire, this special night with the band is open to the public and will take place after their performance at Gigantour that night (tickets will be given on a first come, first serve basis; you must be 21+ to receive entry into the club). For more information, please visit the official event page here.
If you haven’t heard LACUNA COIL’s Dark Adrenaline yet, be sure to head over to Spin.com now for the exclusive album stream. Having already earned rave reviews from the press, with Outburn avowing, “LACUNA COIL knocks one out of the park with ‘Dark Adrenaline’…it is an album without filler and one for which start to finish spins are mandatory”, this album promises to be yet another gothic-metal classic!
Fans both old and new can purchase Dark Adrenaline in a variety of formats, including standard edition CD and vinyl, Deluxe Edition digipak with a bonus DVD, sticker, poster and guitar pick and as an iTunes LP with expanded packaging, five bonus audio tracks and video. The Metal Club (www.mymetalclub.com) edition features exclusive artwork designed by the band and is limited to 3000 units. The Hastings edition features a bonus 10-track LACUNA COIL sampler, and the Amazon digital edition comes with a free five track sampler.
For true fans of the band, the Darkest Adrenaline box set is also available for purchase. It includes both the Digipak and vinyl versions of the album along with a hardcover photo book, a LACUNA COIL custom syringe pen and ink, a lyric pad, signed lithographs created by the band and more, all housed in a LACUNA COIL medical box. This box set is limited to 500 pieces and is available exclusively through CM Distro (www.cmdistro.com).
As previously announced, LACUNA COIL will support Megadeth on their critically-acclaimed Gigantour around the release of Dark Adrenaline . Gigantour was founded by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine in 2005; this run will also feature Motorhead and Volbeat.
