Marshall Amplifiers have been the corner stone of many a practise room, live performance, studio and bedroom essential for many musicians over the last fifty years. Ranging from Jimi Hendrix right up to Lemmy Kilmister being well renowned users, the amps have become something of legendary status. 

So what better way of celebrating the fact that these fantastic amps have been around for fifty years that showcasing the talent behind the airwaves, with a collage of talent here tonight all playing songs of their own, and many they made their own.

SLAYER – Interview with Drummer Dave Lombardo

Slayer has been in the frontlines of thrash metal and extreme metal for nearly four decades. Several classic songs such as Hell Awaits, Raining Blood, South Of Heaven, Dead Skin Mask, Cult etc are immortal and present a well oiled metallic war machine pushing forward relentlessly and show the brutality of thrash metal. However, the thrash metal machine needs a powerful inexhaustible source of intense drumming to create the well-known Slayer tempo. Dave Lombardo is definitely at the core of the unique sounds of Slayer. Despise his absence from Slayer, his role in the world of Slayer has become, and still is, an important part of Slayer. Third time lucky for the Slayer faithful.

This was actually my first gig since the passing of Ronnie James Dio, and it was really nice to hear classic Rainbow being belted out through the PA before Slayer took to the stage, as today was the date that the Dio memorial was taking place in LA.

It was even nicer to note that the customary chants of Slayer! Slayer! Slayer! were saved for the gaps between tracks, as everyone enjoyed the moment and respected the meaning of the songs.

Interview with Kerry King of SLAYER

Slayer last visited Finland in 2002 on their ”Tattoo the Planet” tour. That tour suffered from the cancellations of both Pantera and Static-X due to the WTC/Pentagon tragedy. Luckily the Slayer guys stated that they didn´t allow terrorists to disrupt their lives, and they tour was eventually made with Cradle of Filth, Amorphis, and In Flames filling Pantera´s and Static-X´s empty spots for the dates in both Sweden and Finland.

On “The Unholy Alliance” tour, Slayer brought Mastodon and Slipknot with them to Helsinki Icehall on 17^th of October ´04 and Slayer proved to be in a very good live shape just like they have always been (hey, we are talking about Slayer here, so what more you can really expect from them!).

A few hours before Slayer hit the stage, I met Kerry King at Helsinki´s most expensive hotel, Hotel Kämp, and went through an interesting conversation about the on-going tour naturally, the band´s forth-coming album, Slayer –fans, Kerry´s own K.F.K. Industries (I guess it´s not hard to guess what the letters K.F.K. stands for, heh!), Kerry´s favorite hard drinks, the state of Metal scene nowadays, etc. – amongst many other cool things were talked through between me and him as well.
