Hell yeah! It’s time to enter the mighty Swedenrock Festival. A fantastic and the most enjoyable rock and metal festival on earth. It has to be pointed out that Metal Rules has covered Sweden Rock since 2001! Therefore, it is quite logical to cover the festival again. The 2014 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Approximately 80 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past decade as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t an exception as the fest was sold out despite a lousy economic situation worldwide. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article on several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather was both rainy and sunny during these four days. The Metal-Rules.com team was there to witness the bands, not for some kinda beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!
Trough Overtures’ Facebook and Youtube pages, lead singer Michele Guaitoli – frontman of the Italian heavy/power-metal band – has published the recording sent to Kamelot two years ago as audition to substitute Roy Kahn.
“Something like two years ago Roy Kahn announced his split from Kamelot. As for the most of their fans, I was absolutely shocked and I felt really sad about it: Roy Kahn was (and still is) one of the most important influences for my musical growing. He is one of those singers who, release after release, always gave me strong emotions, without making me care or even think about any technical questions: he simply arrives. Beyond the obvious opportunity, those were the reasons that made me decide to try to submit my audition. I am actually extremely happy that their choice went on Tommy Karevic, an amazing vocalist that I was already following in Seventh Wonder, and I am still a huge fan of Kamelot. Today, in response to some requests I had by mail from some Overtures’ followers, I decided to publish the clip I loaded on Youtube 2 years ago: this link was meant for Kamelot and for a few friends, but seen the situation, I made it public, but I want to say it clear: I look at Kamelot with HUGE respect and admiration, and I absolutely don’t mean anything with this clip: watch it just like you watch any other cover on Youtube!”
Overtures just finished the recordings for their third album “Entering the maze”: more news about it will be released soon.
TY: “Yes. We are discussing touring East Europe, Greece, Finland and many more places. Also we want to return to Asia in 2013 and North American Headliner tour is now 99% confirmed, news coming soon!”
Q: You mentioned a DVD shoot, any news on that?
TY: “Not yet, but we are discussing locations and the time for this. Once we have some news all the Kamelot fans will be provided with info so that they can attend, including special hotel rates and more. It will be a big event for sure!”
Q: Any more videos for Silverthorn and expected release date for the next one?
TY: “Yes, We are working on a new one at the moment and it will come out in the beginning of 2013. We plan at least four videos for this album.”
Much like fellow symphonic metallers Nightwish, Xandria have faced front-woman dramas in recent years, the product of which is latest album Neverworld’s End and a switch to a more operatic style, which is hard to miss!
KAMELOT new album, Silverthorn, is due out on October 30th in North America, October 26th in Germany and October 29th in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV. It will receive its Japanese release October 24th via King Records.
‘Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife)’
‘Ashes to Ashes’
‘Song for Jolee’
‘Falling Like the Fahrenheit’
The video clip for the song ‘Sacrimony (Angel Of Afterlife)’ will debut soon and features guest appearances by Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) and Alissa White-Gluz (THE AGONIST).
The Silverthorn LP and limited edition will have one version of the art, while the standard version of Silverthorn will have a different but equally exquisite version of the artwork. The standard version is presented as an Ecolbook. The limited edition contains the Ecolbook, a bonus CD with nearly 60 minutes of music, a 44 page book and an exclusive poster. The double LP version is a gatefold on colored vinyl and includes the CD.

Today KAMELOT has unveiled the breathtaking album artwork for Silverthorn. The standard version is presented as an Ecolbook. The limited edition contains the Ecolbook, a bonus CD with nearly 60 minutes of music, a 44 page book and an exclusive poster. Guitarist Thomas Youngblood says of the artwork:
“Artist Stefan Heilemann captured the true essence of the story and the main character. The booklet and 44 page book is packed with amazing images!”
It was recently announced that Swede Tommy Karevik has been selected as the new singer for KAMELOT.

The American/German symphonic metal band KAMELOT is proud to announce another key piece leading to the release of their new studio album.
A question foremost in every KAMELOT fan’s mind has been: Who is the group’s new lead singer?
Band mastermind and guitarist Thomas Youngblood has now revealed: “The new man is Scandinavian Tommy Karevik!”.
The general public may not be overly familiar with the 30 year old Swede, Karevik, but people in the industry know him as the immensely talented frontman of the Swedish band, Seventh Wonder. Youngblood states: “We had around 800 candidates for the vacant position, among them a number of really renowned musicians, and having to reject them really wasn’t easy. We want to thank all the applicants, thank you for your understanding and we wish you all lots of success in the future!”.
The search for Tommy Karevik…
In their search for a new singer, Thomas Youngblood found YouTube to be an amazing tool: “I listened to a clip of a studio production featuring Tommy and have to confess that his performance really amazed me. His approach to melodies and themes suits KAMELOT perfectly, and during our European shows we had plenty of opportunity to find out what a great guy he is.”
Tommy first appeared as one of the guest singers on KAMELOT‘s very successful 2011 Pandemonium World Tour. Tommy states: “The tour was a lot of fun and I met a lot of nice people and got some good experience. The guys were super nice and we had a great time together! By then I was really into the band’s music and had fallen in love with the amazingly loyal and dedicated fans at every show.”
Karevik is thrilled about his new position: “I am so honored to now be a part of this family and I can`t wait to move into the new era of the band together with the guys. I fully understand that this comes with great responsibility and that it will be a big challenge for me as a singer as well as a person, but you can rest assured I will give it my all. From this day, a new journey has begun and I am really eager to meet you all along the way to share my passion for this music!”.
KAMELOT‘s new album is planned for a September 2012 release, which coincides with the beginning a massive World Tour that will bring the band to nearly every continent on the planet. See Tour Section for already scheduled concert dates!
Symphonic metallers KAMELOT have returned to the Steamhammer/SPV fold for a worldwide deal, excluding Japan (the band recently signed with King Records for Japan).
The group surrounding guitarist and composer Thomas Youngblood is currently working on the drum recordings with renowned sound engineer Jim Morris at the Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, before work on the album is due to be completed at Wolfsburg’s Gate studios under the direction of producer Sascha Paeth (EDGUY, AVANTASIA, RHAPSODY).
The title of Kamelot’s current release will be announced at the end of June, together with the name of their new vocalist. However, according to Youngblood, one thing is certain: “Our fans can really look forward to our new record, because it represents Kamelot in every way!”
Youngblood on the style and content of the concept album: “The new songs sound more symphonic and melodic than our last two studio recordings. The material brings to mind albums such as Karma (2001) and The Black Halo (2005). In addition, this will be the best production that Kamelot have ever delivered. Because while other acts tend to opt for low-budget productions due to the difficult market situation, we have gone the opposite way: the new album will be a real statement, in terms of our compositions as well as in terms of our sound.”
The eagerly awaited album has been scheduled for release on September 24th (Germany: September 21st; North America: September 25th), and Kamelot are set to play a number of festivals (among them Wacken Open Air and Bang Your Head) as early as July and August before embarking on a US tour alongside NIGHTWISH in September/October and a major headliner tour of Europe in November 2012.
“We are more than proud to welcome back one of the best metal bands around here at SPV. From 2005 to 2009 we had already the pleasure to work very successfully with Thomas Youngblood & Co, which we will continue and increase with the new masterpiece coming in September 2012”, says Olly Hahn (A&R SPV/Steamhammer).
And Thomas Youngblood is obviously happy with the resumption of this extremely successful cooperation: “Our new album marks another step and a new chapter for Kamelot and our amazing fans! We are very pleased to be working again with the entire SPV team on this very exciting release.” Andreas Rennmann of Brinkmann & Partner adds: “I´m absolutely proud to welcome Kamelot back at SPV. We all believe in the fantastic history of the band and are absolutely sure that this upcoming release will be one of the most successful albums!”

RHAPSODY OF FIRE vocalist Fabio Lione is featured in a new audio interview with The Age Of Metal. He discusses the departure of founding guitarist Luca Turilli, working with legendary actor Christopher Lee, and his current status as the temporary live vocalist for KAMELOT. Check it out via the player below:
Back in August – after 15 years of friendship, hard work and passion, fully invested in the creation of symphonic music and an epic saga that will remain in the history of heavy metal – Rhapsody Of Fire’s Alex Staropoli (keyboards) and Luca Turilli (guitars) have agreed upon a friendly split. They have issued the following statement:
“Ten albums released and the end of the saga represent, musically and lyrically, an important artistic goal finally reached, underlined by the success of our last release From Chaos To Eternity, for which we want to thank our wonderful fans once again. Now it came the time when new artistic stimulations need to be found, in respect of both parts’ visions and perspectives and of our longtime friendship.”
Due to the latest legal agreements, Staropoli will go on with Rhapsody Of Fire having, between the others, Fabio Lione as singer, Tom Hess as guitar player and Alex Holzwarth as drummer.
Under the same agreements and the original band name’s common ownership, Turilli will release his future works with a new RHAPSODY band, including the faithful band members Dominique Leurquin, Patrice Guers and Alex Holzwarth.
Staropoli: “While wishing the best to Luca and his new band, I want to tell you that Fabio and myself feel motivated and stronger than ever and that Rhapsody Of Fire are already planning a great worldwide tour. More information regarding the new bass player and the new second guitar player will follow. Stay tuned!”
Austria’s Stormbringer.at webzine recently conducted an interview with RHAPSODY OF FIRE and current KAMELOT touring vocalist Fabio Lione. An excerpt from the chat follow below.
Stormbringer.at: How is the tour with KAMELOT going so far?
Fabio: Great! I have to say that the guys are very nice, I love the songs and the band and everything is going in the best way. I’m also very happy to see that the KAMELOT fans are with me and the band. Every show we have a great time, it’s a great experience for me. We feel like old friends, I have to say that we are having a great time and great shows together.
Stormbringer.at: Currently you are a temporary replacement of Khan in KAMELOT. Would you ever consider a permanent place in KAMELOT should the guys of the band ask you?
Fabio: Well, I would love it!!! The KAMELOT songs are great, I really like the style and [former KAMELOT vocalist Roy] Khan is probably one of the few singers that I like. So, of course, I would consider that!!! But first let’s do the European tour and the North American one, Then if they will ask me, I’ll be more than happy to join the band permanently. Since the first time we met and played together we had a very good feeling. Everything was easy and natural like we knew each other for years and everybody who saw the band in South America or Europe said we did great shows!!! I’m happy for the guys and the fans, so let’s see what the future will bring for us. Never say never!
Stormbringer.at: Where are the differences or challenges in singing for your own band in comparison to being a guest singer in another well-established band like KAMELOT?
Fabio: It’s not easy, I have to say, but in this case I knew Khan since [his pre-KAMELOT band] CONCEPTION era and I know his voice, style and way to sing; he’s great!!! So it was a little bit more easy for me ’cause I knew the songs and especially the singer very well, but you have to be in front of many people, fans that are used to see and hear someone else, it’s not really an easy job. The best is [to] do it with passion and make people happy. Anyway, I don’t think I do something easy in RHAPSODY OF FIRE or VISION DIVINE, I always liked to do not easy things and this new experience it’s very good for me. I just try to do it in the best way I can.
In a May 11, 2011 interview with Metal-Trails.com, KAMELOT guitarist/mainman Thomas Youngblood stated about Fabio Lione, “Our producer, Sascha Paeth, he also does RHAPSODY’s records and he suggested Fabio because he knows the guy can sing anything. He sings totally different than he does with RHAPSODY with us. He’s an amazing singer. I mean, technically, he’s probably the best singer that I’ve ever worked with. So I think he was the perfect choice to finish this tour, to fulfill our obligations to ourselves and the fans. And he’s actually a new dynamic to the show, which I think is really cool.”
When asked if there is a possibility that Fabio will be the new permanent lead singer of KAMELOT, Youngblood said, “There’s always possibilities, you know?! He’s got his band, but I think what I wanna do is do this big audition process where we have as many people as possible to choose from and then we’ll make a decision.”
Regarding possible candidates for the singer position in KAMELOT and what the band will be looking for in a new vocalist, Youngblood said, “I definitely don’t wanna say any names right now, but we’ve gotten a lot of e-mails from people that are known, people that are unknown. Obviously they have to have a certain charisma, they have to understand the dynamics of what KAMELOT is and also what we’re gonna be on the next record. Vocally, they have to be a master at what they’re doing. So there’s a lot of elements. There’s also a social part of it — making sure they have no religious restrictions, no addiction issues, they don’t have a girlfriend or a wife that says, ‘You can’t tour,’ or something like that. All I can say is that so far a lot of the e-mails I’ve gotten have been very encouraging.”
On whether KAMELOT wants someone who will sound very similar to Roy or a singer with his own style, Youngblood said, “The new guy should have his own thing going on. Of course, he has to be able to sing the old songs and do it properly — give it justice and respect. But to bring in a clone makes no sense; that’s not our goal.”
