From Finland comes Ravenia, a symphonic/film-score metal (according to them) act that released their debut album BEYOND THE WALLS OF DEATH at the end of April 2016. When I listened to the album I thought it sounded like the soundtrack to a fantasy movie and was nothing like I’d ever heard before. That woke up my curiosity and I decided to get to know more about the band by contacting singer Armi Päivinen to ask if she’d like to conduct an interview. Besides the usual instrumental line up, the band also contains a string section which feels really unusual for a metal act. Armi and I talked about the album, the future for the band as well as their label, Inner Wound Records. If you want to have a somewhat unexpected musical experience then check out Ravenia. The review of BEYOND THE WALLS OF DEATH is also available on Metal-Rules.com.

Midnight Eternal is the name of a new band from New York and is the brainchild of Operatika members Richard Fischer and Boris Zaks. The band’s self-titled debut album was unleashed in April and ought to appeal to fans of symphonic metal. Singer Raine Hilai and I hooked up and we had a talk about the album, which has taken the band 2 years to finish, the fact the band has become high profiled in the NY area with only their demo and their support shows to Doro, The Agonist and Quiet Riot amongst others. The album was mixed by the famous Tommy Hansen with art work by Jan Yrlund and is jammed with epic songs perfect for fans of Delain, Nightwish and Kamelot.

For some strange reason the music of InnerWish totally past me by, the band have been active for about 20 years and after a really long break the band released the album INNERWISH. The previous album came 6 years ago and I was interested in knowing more about what the band had been up to in between releases, so I got in touch with drummer Fragiskos Samoilis to know more about the status of the band. Members have come and gone, especially singers, and the new album is, like the previous one, mixed in Sweden by the legendary producer Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd. We talked about what the future has in store for the band and if you’re interested in learning more about traditional melodic metal sprinkled with great vocals make sure to read and listen to InnerWish.

Within Silence is a new power metal band from Slovakia led by guitarist and founder Richard Germanus. I had the pleasure to have a chat with Richard and I thought it was suitable to dig into the past of the band and also talk about their debut album GALLERY OF LIFE. That album was just released in Europe and the USA in May of this year. If you’re into bands like Sonata Arctica, Stratovarious, Hammerfall and Gamma Ray, then I’m pretty sure you’re going to like what you hear when you push play on GALLERY OF LIFE.

Finnish vocalist Heidi Parviainen (ex- Amberian Dawn) recently released an album with her new band Dark Sarah. The album is called BEHIND THE BLACK VEIL and it ought to appeal to fans of symphonic goth/metal. The album came to life thanks to crowd funding on Indie a Go Go and was recorded in three separate parts which later became the album. We talked about the album, the guest appearances, and the on going process with releasing the album. The first video from the disc came two years ago so I guess Heidi was glad to finally unleash her work to the fans and the world. Read more about her journey below.

Interview_leah_promo_2015_5

From British Columbia Canada comes Leah, a singer that released her second album KINGS AND QUEENS early this year. Her music is best described as symphonic metal influenced by world, Celtic, and middle eastern music. A few of the topics we handled include: the new album, her new label, the guest musicians (Tim Somers, Sander Zoer and Barend Courbois), her background, and why she hasn’t toured. Leah has gained a big fanbase with huge internet support from fans and I’m sure that the fans wants to see her live. Leah’s label has also re-released her debut album OF EARTH AND ANGELS. Enjoy.

Madness Of the Night is a Swedish goth/dark wave duo that released their debut album THE ASGARDA in November 2013. Since the duo have a bit of an unusual background I thought it would be nice to learn a bit more about them and their music. I hooked up with Daniel Dante former members of the Swedish gothmetal act Soulgrinder, and here is what he had to say. Read the rest of this entry »
