Founded in Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada) by Tim Roth in the late ’90s, INTO ETERNITY first caught the attention of a small Dutch label that released their self-titled debut in 2000. Two years later, sophomore album Dead or Dreaming – released internationally by Century Media Records, and supported by tours with Dying Fetus, Kataklysm and Hate Eternal – formally introduced the band to the metal world.
One of the most critically acclaimed bands in metal and undoubtedly one of its hardest-working, INTO ETERNITY borrows from all aspects of heavy music to form the perfect blend of technicality, memorable songwriting, traditional heavy metal and the sheer savagery of metal’s extreme genres.

Former INTO ETERNITY Guitarist/FINAL DARKNESS Mainman Rob Doherty Passes

May 5th, 2012

Former INTO ETERNITY guitarist and “ambassador of Saskatchewan metal” Rob Doherty has suddenly passed. He played on the band’s 2004 album Buried In Oblivion. Into Eternity mainman Tim Roth says that “he was a special part of our band.”

No further details are available yet on the cause of death.

Doherty released the debut from his FINAL DARKNESS project late last year.

Metal-Rules.com offers condolences to Rob Doherty’s family, friends and fans.

FINAL DARKNESS’s “Ghost” video can be seen above. The clip, which was filmed in January 2012 in Serbia, was produced by Stanimir “Staca” Lukic and directed by Ivan Colic.

“Ghost” was the first “official” video for the latest FINAL DARKNESS album, which was released on December 21, 2011.

The project was put on hold when the label it was originally to be released under changed priorities and decided to go in a different direction, but Rob remained determined to push forward and bring FINAL DARKNESS to life.

Doherty rewrote and reworked some of the songs from the original project and began recording the new music last year at Touchwood Studios. The recording was engineered by Justin Bender (INTO ETERNITY), who also provides additional guitars on the track “Memories”. The album also features guest performances from Tim Roth (INTO ETERNITY) on the songs “Kill Room”, “Memories” and “Darkness Falls”. A big break came when legendary producer/engineer Neil Kernon (NILE, NEVERMORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE) agreed to do the final mix for the project. Neil also helped hook Rob up with mastering engineer Alan Douches from West West Side Music in New Windsor, New York to help give the album a killer sound.

Regina metal band Into Eternity shifting gears

REGINA — Regina metal band Into Eternity is hoping the recent hiring of a singer and dramatic shift in testosterone will give the band new life after nearly a year of uncertainty.

Amanda Kiernan of Edmonton’s Order of Chaos takes over from Stu Block who was hired away last year by American metal band Iced Earth, leaving Into Eternity without a full-time singer.

Band founder and guitarist Tim Roth began searching for a replacement last fall after deciding to record a new album with hopes of taking the band on the road in 2012. After offers for shows began coming in, Roth didn’t take long to invite Kiernan to Regina after hearing a tape of her performing his songs.

“I had all these guys who told me they could do the songs and hit the notes Stu could. So I had them try out and it was like, ‘No way.’ Nobody could do it,” Roth said. “But Amanda’s got this great voice … none of the dudes could hit the notes Stu could, so maybe it makes sense that only a chick can do it.

“Besides, she already fits in like she’s one of the guys.”

Roth said Kiernan will add a visual element the shows.

“She’s a woman and she has these great outfits.”

Kiernan, who said she’s been an Into Eternity fan since she was in high school, admitted she was nervous when she arrived in Regina for rehearsals with the full band earlier this month.

“At first, I was pretty intimidated. These guys are rock stars to me,” she said. “There were times when I was sitting around with the guys, and then all of a sudden I’d get this little burst of energy because I reminded myself that I was sitting with Into Eternity.”

After agreeing to sign-up with Into Eternity, Kiernan had to break the news to her bandmates in Order of Chaos, some of whom didn’t take her news well.

“I couldn’t pass up on the Into Eternity thing because I could never sit at home and wonder what could have been,” Kiernan said, adding she hopes she can perform with her old band whenever she’s not working with Into Eternity.

“Some of them might not understand, but I think that in the long run, this will be very good for Order of Chaos. They’re a little jealous and upset. But I think I just need to prove to them that I’ll work 100 per cent at both bands,” said Kiernan.

Block, who toured across Europe with Iced Earth last fall and is to tour again this winter across Canada and the U.S., went out of his way to help Kiernan sing the often complex Into Eternity numbers when he was Regina on a break earlier this month.

“I don’t want to hold Into Eternity back. They need to be taking advantage of the opportunities that they have,” Block said.

“All the boys in the band, even previous guys who’ve been in the band, are like brothers to me. They were so supportive to me when I got into Iced Earth. I feel I need to do all I can to help them keep going,” Block said.

“Any time I can help, I will.”

Block said Kiernan has a challenge ahead of her but is confident Into Eternity fans will be pleased with its new sound.

“She has an awesome spirit. She has a little growing to do but she’s got a great stage presence. And all the guys are going to love her.”

Kiernan’s first show is slated for Feb. 25 at Manitoba Metalfest in Winnipeg.

ICED EARTH Announce New Vocalist!

March 16th, 2011
Iced Earth's new vocalist, Stu Block from Into Eternity

Iced Earth's new vocalist, Stu Block from Into Eternity

In the wake of vocalist Matt Barlow’s retirement, dozens of demos and resumes flooded ICED EARTH’s management team. But one name kept popping up – INTO ETERNITY vocalist Stu Block, who has been named the new lead singer for Iced Earth.

According to leader Jon Schaffer, Robert Kampf, CEO of Century Media, early on suggested Block, whose band Into Eternity was previously on the CM label. That reminded Schaffer of one night in September, 2008, when Into Eternity opened for Iced Earth.

“Iced Earth was backstage waiting to go on,” said Schaffer. “We heard one of Stu’s incredible wails. I remember turning to Matt and saying, ‘Damn, that dude has serious range.’”

So while Iced Earth’s management team sifted through the growing number of prospective vocalists, Schaffer got in touch with Block.

After several phone conversations with the then-prospective Iced Earth vocalist, Schaffer asked his manager to e-mail Block several key Iced Earth songs, with the vocals stripped. Block went into his studio and recorded himself singing, then sent the files back to the team.

The result landed Block an intense two days at Schaffer’s studio where the two musicians hit it off.

“I felt a lot of chemistry between us, we knocked out a couple of great original pieces of music in no time” said Schaffer. “He’s very good at coming up with catchy melodies, and will help with lyrical duties as well. There’s no doubt Stu has an amazing vocal range and a lot of energy, but he also has the touring experience, which is a big plus for our plans of performing in all corners of the world.”

In addition, Schaffer said Block has what Iced Earth needs in a front man: “stage presence that includes high energy, passion, and focused rage.”

“Stu is charismatic and understands the depth and varying emotions in Iced Earth’s music,” said Schaffer. “So he will embody not only the emotion of our songs, but he will be able to perform them in a dynamic way. I believe fans are in for some incredible records and live shows in the coming years.”

New Iced Earth vocalist Stu Block concurs: “Iced Earth fans are wonderful, wonderful people,” he said. “The music is so passionate. So they’re passionate, and very loyal to the band. I am, too. I’m a huge fan of Iced Earth myself. So I share that same passion, and I will show it on stage. I think the fans are really going to dig it.”

Block continues: “It’s a huge honor to be doing this, to be part of this team,” he said. “It’s a dream come true, for sure.”

Schaffer is totally stoked. “This is a new beginning,” he said. “It’s game-on time. Iced Earth is going to record and tour like it never has before. The band is really amped-up and ready to hit the ground running in November.”

And to prove it, Iced Earth has released the European leg of a world tour that will take the band to countries it has never previously played. All told, the 2011-2012 Iced Earth world tour will be the largest the band has undertaken since its inception.

Check out Iced Earth’s tour schedule here.

NOTE: Retired Iced Earth vocalist Matt Barlow will perform with the band on all summer festival dates. New vocalist Stu Block will take over fromthere, starting with the European leg of Iced Earth’s world tour.
The band’s long-awaited 6-hour, three-concert live DVD Festivals of theWicked is scheduled for release this spring.
