July 5th, 2017

Are you counting down the days yet to BLOODSTOCK 2017?  There’s just 37 days to go – that’s a mere 5 weekends!! Maybe you’re making plans which campsite you’re going to stay in? Perhaps the brand new Ragnarök campsite, named by you, the fans? Or maybe you’ve just picked up your day ticket?

Did you know that BLOODSTOCK’s online ‘click & collect’ service allows you to pre-order your 2017 merch for on site collection?  Festival attendees can snap up their faves now without fear of their size/design being already sold out on the day.  Just pre-order anything with a click & collect logo at https://bmerch.com/store/ bloodstock/ and collect at the merch stall in the arena at any point over the weekend, knowing your item is guaranteed and paid for! You can pre-order until Monday 7th August.

MAYHEM with INQUISITION

The Gothic Theater – Denver, CO
January 27th, 2017

Words and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

Nothing on, above, or below this earth was going to keep me away from the Gothic Theater last week, where MAYHEM, the most notorious primogenitors of Norwegian black metal, came to perform. For those unfamiliar with the band’s long, bloody, awful history, I won’t recount much of it here: it’s readily found online or in full-length books. The short version is: original vocalist kills himself, guitarist is murdered by bassist, who burned down several ancient churches in the 90’s. All of this occurred before the band could release their first full-length album DE MYSTERIIS DOM SATHANAS. To this day, it is considered to be one of the most influential black metal albums ever recorded. But first..

Inquisition @ Camden Underworld

Inquisition @ Camden Underworld

In a vast array of impressive line ups to grace our capital in the last couple of years, with many more to come, this show presented one of the greatest; a flurry of black metal mastery: Ondskapt, Archgoat and the mighty Inquisition, who returned to our shores once more after embarking on a thoroughly well-received UK tour last summer. Responsible for this monolithic booking is the recently formed Old Empire, which has turned the UK metal scene on its head by putting on shows by Primordial, Acherontas and Ravencult to name a few. With a roster like this, it’s safe to say big things were expected.

Steelfest has carved its immortal marks onto the metal festival map in Finland and managed to pull through these hard times whereas other festivals have collapsed. An extremely strong line-up offered killer bands from the front lines of the death/black metal genre. Even though the festival is kind of small, it has an intimate feel passionate towards extreme metal. Metal bangers have also found the festival as the fest was completely sold out. Over 3000 maniacs visited the fest during the weekend, enjoying the metal at its best. Hail! The Metal-Rules.com team spent the whole weekend at Steelfest, witnessing killer bands…

Behemoth @ The Forum

Behemoth @ The Forum

The weather has darkened, the north winds have arrived with an Arctic chill and that’s just outside the Kentish Town forum this evening. The venue itself is preparing for an onslaught of the deepest and most violent creatures it has seen for a long time, with bands from the black , death and gothic genres of metal with ballistic beats, harrowing screams and brutality that can only come from the most skilled of lyrical poetic masterminds.
