Lamb of God

Lamb of God

Brixton tonight is buzzing with anticipation for one of their favourite bands, from the crowd outside winding around the venue adorned in shirts displaying albums from the critically acclaimed “Ashes of the wake” to the most recently released “Resolution”. To the crowd at the bar deep in discussion over what tracks they would like to hear.

TESTAMENT and HUNTRESS to Support LAMB OF GOD / KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for North American Tour

July 17th, 2013
Testament

Testament

Long-time friends LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have joined forces for what will undoubtedly be one of the essential “can’t miss” tours of the fall of 2013.  The tour launches October 22 in Toronto and canvases much of the U.S and Canada.  The two bands are a dominant live pairing, and will combine for 28 North American shows in total.  Support for all shows except Los Angeles will be provided by thrash legends Testament, with Huntress opening all shows.

LAMB OF GOD will end the North American portion of the Resolution record cycle with this tour.  It will include a coast to coast visit to all major Canadian cities which will be LAMB OF GOD’s first visit to Canada on this cycle other than a festival play in June in Montebello and a show in Toronto in January 2012.  In the last year, both Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament have been certified gold in Canada.  LAMB OF GOD will finish the Resolution cycle completely with a visit to Europe and South Africa in January 2014. Details on that tour will be released late August.  Read the rest of this entry »

SWEDENROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Article and pictures by Arto Lehtinen and Marko Syrjälä

“Welcome to the show” – welcomed by KISS  when headlining the second day of the Sweden Rock fest. Well, once again the Finnish Metal-Rules.com team made their annual roadtrip to Sweden Rock. Metal Rules has covered Swedenrock since 2001, therefore it is quite logical to cover the festival again. The 2013 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock. Over 70 metal and rock bands offered one hell of an experience for attendees. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past ten years as the festival has always been sold out. This year wasn’t any exception as the fest was sold out despite the lousy economic situation worldwide. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article on several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. The weather was tremendous during these four days. The Metal-Rules.com team was there witnessing bands, not for having some beach party crap. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!

Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival kicks off in San Bernardino, California – June 29, 2013

Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival 2013

The San Manuel Amphitheatre is situated in a classic California desert-mountain valley. It was in this harsh, desolate, and port-a-potty-covered wasteland that the first day of Mayhem Festival 2013 took place. There was literally nothing else around the festival; just tall, brown, shrub-covered mountains and lots and lots of dust. The day itself was so hellishly hot – peaking at a scorching 107 F – it was almost as if Satan himself had a hand with the weather (maybe he was even at the festival; he’s kind of into the metal scene, isn’t he?). I’m sure the Mayhem people made a fortune on the ice cold $3 waters and $6 lemonades they were peddling all day long, and I witnessed at least one girl pass out from the heat. But with a name like Mayhem, what else would you expect?

Metal Hammer Halloween Party

29th October 2012

Review by Rhiannon Marley

When corpse paint, fake blood and gruesome fancy-dress come up in conversation, two things spring to mind: the set of a Watain gig, or Halloween. But it’s the time of year for the latter, and horn-wielding giants Metal Hammer are throwing all this and more at a sonic carnival of celebration!

HUNTRESS JOINS 3 INCHES OF BLOOD TOUR BEGINNING NOVEMBER 30

November 12th, 2012
HUNTRESS

HUNTRESS

Los Angeles, CA – After successful runs on Paganfest and with Dragonforce in the US earlier this year and currently destroying stages across Europe, the demand for the live onslaught of HUNTRESS is at an alltime high. Beginning November 30, 2012, the fearless metal pentad fronted by Jill Janus, whom LA Weekly named “It Girl in metal,” will be direct support on 3 Inches of Blood’s 13-city West Coast tour. Please see below for a list of tour dates.

Says Jill Janus of this current live offensive, “Huntress is ready to slay the West Coast USA with 3 Inches of Blood! We’re currently on tour with Dragonforce in Europe, but there’s no rest for the wicked. We’ll have one day between Amsterdam and Tacoma, WA to haul ass and join forces with 3 Inches of Blood as direct support on December 1st. Shred ’til yer dead!”

Los Angeles-based metal band Huntress released their buzzworthy debut album Spell Eater on May 8, 2012 via Napalm Records. The album, which Metal Hammer calls “a magical debut from the hottest new act of 2012,” was recorded last fall in Los Angeles and was produced by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Children of Bodom and Skeletonwitch). The music video for the album’s title track sums up the band at its core: true to the roots of melodic heavy metal with a penchant for thrash, death and black metal. To view the video, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz_VbKLC_jI.

Huntress was spawned from the preternatural union of Jill Janus and the Southern California metal band Professor. Janus began her ascension into the realm of heavy metal in the Catskill Mountains of New York. She was born to scream – an operatic banshee with a four-octave range. The Catskills were not enough to contain her, and in her teens she toured Europe as a young opera prodigy.

Upon her return to New York, Janus took Manhattan by storm where she became a part of the nihilistic club scene and hosted Felliniesque parties to support her quest for Huntress. A few years later she would make the journey to Los Angeles, where she would ultimately find her band. Huntress is a blend of thundering drums, heavy riffs, spectral solos and catchy choruses that come from the band’s musical concoction of occult science and archaic sorcery. Let the witches in!

Tour Dates:
11/30/12 – Bellingham, WA @ Wild Buffalo
12/01/12 – Tacoma, WA @ The Loch’s
12/02/12 – Portland, OR @ Hawthorne Theatre
12/03/12 – S. Lake Tahoe, CA @ Whisky Dick’s

Los Angeles-based metal band Huntress released their buzzworthy debut album Spell Eater today on NAPALM RECORDS.  The album was recorded last fall in Los Angeles and was produced by Chris Rakestraw, engineer to Danzig, Children of Bodom and Skeletonwitch albums. DragonForce with Holy Grail and Huntress: The Gramercy Theater New York, NY April 22nd, 2012

April 23rd, 2012

DragonForce

with Holy Grail and Huntress

The Gramercy Theater – New York, NY

April 22nd, 2012

Review and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

I got to see DragonForce back in Orlando in 2008, and was underwhelmed. They had fantastic energy and clearly were having lots of fun on stage, but (to nobody’s shock) their live rendition of their songs doesn’t begin to match what we hear on their crack-infused records. Four years later, I was excited to see how/if they had improved their live set, and how new vocalist Marc Hudson fit in.
