HAVOK’s David Sanchez (guitar/vocals) suffers arm injury; band forced to cancel select dates on current North American tour

September 29th, 2014

Due to unforeseen circumstances, HAVOK is forced to cancel select dates on their current North American tour. David Sanchez (guitars/vocals) comments: “Due to injury, we have been forced to cancel a few shows on our current tour with CROWBAR, REVOCATON, FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, and ARMED FOR APOCALYPSE.  We plan to rejoin the tour in California in early October.

While hiking in Boulder, Colorado, I took a pretty nasty fall and ended up shattering my left wrist.  Since I’m currently unable to play guitar, our friend Dan Gargiulo from REVOCATION has offered his 6-string services and will be laying down the riffage for the rest of our stint in the USA.  I will still be doing vocals on the remainder of the upcoming shows and I cannot wait to get back on the road!

I’d like to apologize to anyone that was looking forward to seeing HAVOK in these coming days.  We will definitely make it up to you.  In times like these, one must remember the ancient American proverb, ‘Shit happens.’  See you on the road!!

One last thing! Here is some good news for a change. Pete’s mom is making a full recovery from her recent accident and that means Pete Webber will be back behind the kit rejoining the tour in California.  We want to thank Marshall Wieczorek from WRETCHED for stepping in on drums and doing an awesome job on such short notice.”

When it was announced that Denver’s Thrash Metal four-piece Havok will be hitting the road across Europe and stopping by to play a gig at one of London’s most underground venues, it was clear that it won’t be a show to miss.

Despite the fact that 25th of November was a rather cold and grim Monday night in London, a decent amount of heavy metal fans had made their way down to The Underworld in Camden Town ready to drink beer and party like it’s Friday night.

Scheduled to play alongside Havok were London’s Savage Messiah and Spanish Angelus Apatrida making it a killer thrash metal line-up to cure any of our Monday blues.

Colorado thrashers Havok made a stop at the Whisky a Go Go during their North American headlining tour in support of their new album, Unnatural Selection. Before the show, I had a chance to talk with lead guitarist Reece Scruggs about the album, the tour, and Havok’s musical influences.

Live Review and Pics by Metalette

It’s always great to be at the Whisky a Go Go on a Friday night. While standing in line to get in, or grabbing a pre-show slice of pie from Frankie and Johnnie’s pizza up the block, you really get to experience all the weirdness that the Sunset Strip has to offer. There’s a yuppie-or-something club nearby (do people still say “yuppie”? I do…), an Irish pub which I have yet to check out, the Hustler store across the street, and average LA joes taking their Lamborghinis for a casual cruise back and forth on Sunset a few times, or walking their large, exotic dogs haughtily down the Strip. And lest we forget the constant stream of tourist buses slowing down to take pictures of the Whisky, as well as flash devil-horns (as if they even know what they’re doing) at the string of less-than-impressed metal fans who are just waiting to pick up their tickets at will-call. SAVAGE MESSIAH have announced a European tour with US thrashers HAVOK

September 19th, 2013

The “Unnatural Selection” European tour is due to kick off on November 23rd in Edegem, Belgium, shortly after SAVAGE MESSIAH’s headlining UK mini tour.  The European trek also features support from ANGELUS APATRIDA.

SAVAGE MESSIAH guitarist JOFF BAILEY comments:

“We’re really excited to announce the news that we’ll be hitting the road across Europe this November/December with Havok!  We really can’t wait to hit European shores again and tear it up with all the Savages over there!  We’ve been shut away in the studio all summer working on the new record (which is sounding absolutely brutal by the way!) so when they finally let us loose for our headline tour in October and now across Europe a couple of weeks later with Havok, well, needless to say, we’ll burst out fuckin’ swinging!  I may even put in place a strict diet of Maiden, Metallica and Rocky montage scenes to fire us up even more!  See you on the road!  STAY SAVAGE!!”

Havok

Fans of Denver thrashers HAVOK are beginning to feel the growing excitement for the approaching North American release date of the band’s third full-length, Unnatural Selection. The album’s lead single, “Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death,” impacted metal radio earlier this week; the only single to land on CMJ’s Loud Rock “Most Added” report. Sirius/XM Radio plus Syracuse’s WAQX, Baltimore’s WIYY, and Northern New Jersey metal powerhouse WSOU, among others, are a few of the key early supporters of the single.

To celebrate, Candlelight Records today makes “Give Me Liberty…Or Give Me Death” available as a free download at the label’s official Bandcamp page.  The topical thrash anthem delivers the young band’s classic thrash and old-school metal sound.

To download click HERE. All available titles at Candlelight’s Bandcamp are available at a 15% discount through midnight June 3 2013. The code to enter on check out is GiveMeCandlelight. Read the rest of this entry »

Suffocation

On Monday, the 13th of May, extreme death metal band Suffocation paid a visit to London’s O2 Academy Islington to cause some rather brutal debauchery. What they brought along was three exciting bands – Cephalic Carnage, Havok and Fallujah. We had the privilege to be there and experience it all ourselves, because what can possibly seem like a better idea than a death metal gig to brighten up your Monday night? Exactly. Absolutely nothing!

HAVOK Announces Headlining Tour

May 18th, 2013

Denver thrashers HAVOK today announce their first headlining tour of North America. Dates are set to commence July 22 and will see the band journey through the southern states, travelling up the eastern seaboard before making their debut performance at Montreal’s annual Heavy MTL festival on August 11.  The tour will be in support of their forthcoming new album, Unnatural Selection, set for release June 25.

Reported last week, Unnatural Selection, the band’s third full-length album for Candlelight Records, was produced by guitarist David Sanchez and mixed by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones). The album features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz (Slayer, Mastodon) and was mastered by James Murphy (Aborted, World Under Blood, Abigail Williams). HAVOK’S UNNATURAL SELECTION SET FOR RELEASE

May 8th, 2013

havok2Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:  Candlelight Records confirms June 25 as the North American release date for Unnatural Selection, the new album from Denver thrashers HAVOK.  The ten-song album was produced by David Sanchez with mixing handled by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones).  It features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz (Slayer, Mastodon) and was mastered by James Murphy (Aborted, World Under Blood, Abigail Williams).

“Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death,” the first single from Unnatural Selection, will hit Loud Rock/Metal radio on May 27.  The topical song is a furious and urgent anthem that displays the band’s classic thrash and old school metal sound.  Vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez ignites the fret board and barks the righteous lyrics while drummer Pete Webber punishes his immense kit.  The song’s towering sound benefits from the unique acoustics of the old theater that was utilized as one of the many recording locations for the album.

“I am super pumped on how the drums came out,” chimes Webber.  “We recorded the drums in a theater to get a huge sound.  It was a challenging experience for me between time constraints and the drum parts having much more feeling in them.  I believe the added pressure made for some really awesome stuff.  I can’t wait to unleash this album to the world.”

Unnatural Selection bears a far more mature collection of songs when compared to Burn (2009), and Time Is Up (2011).  HAVOK has truly hit their mark with a sound that will please fans new and old.  Additional album stand outs include album opener “I Am The State,” “Chasing The Edge,” and the band’s rendition of the Black Sabbath classic “Children of the Grave.”

It’s a warm Sunday evening as a horde of metal heads descend upon the underworld for what looks like one of the thrashiest line-ups the venue has seen for a while, within minutes of opening the merchandise tables are mobbed and it certainly bodes well for a heavy evening of metal filled goodness.

HAVOK To Release EP Late May; Additional Live Performances Announced

February 19th, 2012

Denver thrashers HAVOK continue their metal assault today confirming May 22 as the North American release date of their new EP titled The Point Of No Return. Recorded by the band with final touches coming via James Murphy (Death, Testament), the EP will contain two brand new songs plus a few HAVOK reworked cover tunes. The Point Of No Return precedes the band’s first European adventure beginning early May.

“We’ve been writing some new music in between tours and we’re excited to unveil it,” comments vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez. “These are the first new songs since Time Is Up came out last year. We recorded a cover of Sepultura’s classic ‘Arise’ for your listening enjoyment and the EP features our Slayer medley that was only available on the digital version of Time Is Up. The EP is a good precursor to where the next album will be taking us. I can’t wait to play this new stuff live… See you all on the road!”

Currently on tour with English Dogs, HAVOK’s stage show continues to gather critical fan and media applause. On announcement of the tour, Los Angeles’ Big Wheel Magazine noted, “opening the show will be Colorado’s fiercest… HAVOK are definitely a band to keep a watch for as their break-neck speed metal is taking the states by storm.” The band has confirmed a string of headline dates beginning March 2 which includes a performance in Puerto Rico. HAVOK then will align with Sepultura, Death Angel, and Krisiun for a tour beginning in Santa Ana, California on April 10 and wraps in New York on April 30.

HAVOK released their full-length debut, Burn, mid 2009. The record instantly found a nice pocket of fans while initiating the early curiosity of media around the globe. Commenting after signing with Candlelight Records, Sanchez said, “this is the break we’ve been working towards. It is the beginning of great things to come. We know that the work is really just beginning and that the pressure is on. But pressure, as you know, makes diamonds.”

It was with the release of Time Is Up early 2011 that things really started to fall into place for the young four-piece. “HAVOK have hit their stride,” said Decibel Magazine. “HAVOK is everything that is great about thrash,” notes Terrorizer. “Everyone should be worshipping at these Denver native’s altar as they have the flashy skill, ridiculous song-writing chops, and prodigious lead guitar work that’ll have even the most jaded ears saying, ‘okay just this last one,’” adds Rock Sound. Two videos, “Covering Fire” and “D.O.A.” have added to the ongoing success of Time Is Up, which has seen double the sales compared to Burn, all while the band has maintained an insane touring schedule. Sanchez says, “we’ve been touring a lot in support of Time Is Up and this year is no exception. We’re hitting the road harder than ever in 2012. There is a lot to look forward to, including some things outside of North America. I can’t wait!”
