Brazil is home to many amazing bands, whether you are into death or thrash or punk or hardcore or power metal, a fan will always find something interesting coming from Brazil. One great example from this influential scene, is the band Confronto from Rio de Janeiro. Taking influences from different genres of heavy metal and adding hardcore to their sound, the band has been gathering fans worldwide for the past 15 years. Their latest album, ”Imortal”, was released in South America a bit over 1 year ago, and had legendaries guests like João Gordo [Ratos de Porão], Carlos Lopes [Dorsal Atlântica] and many others, and now in March the album is getting its’ European release, where the band will be coming in September for a tour to promote this terrific album. I sat down with the very friendly lead singer Felipe Chehuan to talk about the band’s history, the Brazilian scene, tours, their plans and much more. Read the rest of this entry »

@ Roundhouse, London

The guy beside me is meerkating. Bouncing up on the tips of his toes, straining his neck, bending this way and that, clutching his phone. Looking for his friends. I can understand. A good gig with good friends is something very lovely indeed. But I want to tell him it doesn’t matter, if only to stop him from keep invading my eye line. Also he’s missing all the songs. The band are just a few feet away and the music is really flying – if you can’t just enjoy that then there’s something a bit wrong. After all we’re all friends here tonight.
And now a girl bursts into tears. Jesus. Let’s assume it’s because of the music, although that would imply levels of hysteria beyond anything expected. Volbeat have never felt big enough to cause such emotion. Not in the UK. Back home, sure, platinum all the way, Europe and the US are on board, but here they’ve always seemed to struggle to impact. People say they like them, but rarely do you meet someone foaming at the mouth, raging about just how good they are. And yet tonight they’ve sold out the show, sold out the impressive Roundhouse no less.
It’s not for us to speculate how or why, but when Hatebreed roll on stage and you can only loosely use the term “full” to describe the place, well it suggests something. It suggests the coins have been coughed up for Volbeat. It suggests the tide is turning.
Bloodstock Open Air 2014

Bloodstock has become something of a staple holiday for many metal heads, with its fine selection of musical delights, the drinking until dawn, great company, dressing up and of course the bin jousting! What more could you want besides all of this?

Kingdom Of Sorrow: Jamey Jasta
Hatebreed Mastermind Returns To The Kingdom
Interviewed by Shawn Jam Hill
A foot soldier leading the infantry of hardcore, Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta has been belting out sing-along anthems of rage and alienation with his Connecticut based crew for over 15 years. Touring relentlessly, Hatebreed have played all over the world, delivering their patented brand of breakdown-inflected metalcore to the masses and influencing countless minions along the way. One would think Jasta, a self-confessed “workaholic”, would have his platter loaded to the brim with metallic duties concerning the ‘Breed. One would be wrong.
Machine Head with Hatebreed and Bleeding Through
February 1, 2010
Old Ice Hall, Helsinki, Finland
Review and Live pics by Arto Lehtinen
Machine Head has constantly visited us here in Finland since the legendary BURN MY EYES saw the light of day 1994. Due to constant gigging a fanatical, strong, and growing fanbase has increased the success of Machine Head in Finland. Even though Machine Head have visited Finland a couple of times supporting the highly awarded 2007 album THE BLACKENING, it was about time for them to have a headline tour of their own with more playing time. Machine Head did visit Finland as a part of the Sonisphere touring package, but the playing time was short because of the guitarist’s collapse on stage.

Wacken Open Air 2008
Once again tens of thousands of lunatic metal freaks travelled from all over the world to the small German village located in the middle of the beautiful northern German countryside. The small peaceful Wacken literally goes upside down when nearly 80.000 conquer the village during one weekend in a year. Wacken Open Air celebrated its 19th birthday from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August, whose biggest headliner ever in the history of Wacken was Iron Maiden. Despite Iron Maiden being the biggest name on the bill, however there were tons of other interesting and fascinating names.
Brat: The mass convergence of catholic youth in Sydney for World Youth Day the week Ray and I left brought a smile to my face and a feeling of warmth as I realised it wouldn’t be long until I was part of a similar pilgrimage but to Hamburg Germany and with two major differences—where Sydney was awash with colourful youth, Hamburg would be invaded by a swarm of black; and the trolley suitcases carrying clothing would instead be trolleys full of beer; songs of the gospel would be replaced by metal anthems. They came to worship at the cross—we to worship at the flaming longhorn but we all would display our nations’ flags proudly.
Tickets for W:O:A 2008 sold phenomenally fast. The special edition X-mas pack with extra goodie bag sold out before I could take a long breath after my 2007 trip. By February the official festival ticket seller was “SOLD OUT”. Suddenly the ebay market was flooded with tickets with one ticket reaching a record price of 800 British Pounds—obscene. Even in July with less than 1 month before the festival, there was an average of 5 new listings a day for tickets, which nullified all “SOLD OUT” credibility. (Brat)
