INTERVIEW BY MARKO SYRJALA
Terry Chimes is an English musician, best known as the original drummer for the punk group The Clash. He played in the band originally between 1976 -1977, and later from 1982 to 1983. In 1985, he played with Hanoi Rocks before the band broke up later that year. From the ashes rose The Cherry Bombz which contained Chimes, Andy Mc Coy and Nasty Suicide (Hanoi Rocks), singer Anita Chellamah and bassist Timo Caltio who was soon replaced by Dave Tregunna. The band did not last very long. Between 1987- 1988 Chimes played as a touring drummer for Black Sabbath after which he retired from the music scene. Since 1994, he has been a chiropractor in Essex in his clinic, Chimes Chiropractic. He also leads chiropractic seminars and published a biography STRANGE CASE OF DR TERRY AND Mr. CHIMES in 2013. Chimes is also playing again and plays now in his own band The Crunch, which has just released its second album BRAND NEW BRAND. I met a good-humored Terry back in December at his home in Essex and here are the results of a long and interesting conversation, which went through Terry’s long career and, of course, his current activities and the future. Read on!

INTERVIEW BY MARKO SYRJALA
Anita Chellamah is a British singer and actress, best known from her career with pop band Toto Coelo and rock band Cherry Bombz. The latter was formed in 1984 and the band featured Anita and the last line up of broken Hanoi Rocks line up of Andy McCoy, Nasty Suicide, Timo Kaltio and Terry Chimes. A short live band released EP CHERRY BOMBZ, a pair of singles and a live album COMING DOWN SLOWLY before disbanding in 1987 only three years after its formation. Chemallah retired from music scene after cherry Bombz and later on she worked small roles in films, commercials and she also had her own show in Sky Channel. It’s been 27 years since Cherry Bombz broke up and now she is finally back in music business. I met good-humored Anita in London in July and here are the results of our interesting discussion including the past, the present and the future of Anita Chellamah. Read on!

2013 has been yet another busy year for Michael Monroe. The band completed its long awaited successor to the previous SENSORY OVERDRIVE album and the man has been working on several TV-projects and not forgetting, of course, touring, which has continued steadily through the year. HORNS AND HALOS was released in August, and it presented a more punky and straightforward Monroe. The “Horn and Halos” tour reached rainy Helsinki on December 7’th and the band, which now consists of Monroe, bassist Sam Yaffa, drummer Karl Rockfist and guitarists Steve Conte and Rich Jones, offered a great two hour set of energetic rock without any needless gimmicks. It’s time to “Rock like F**k!”
MICHAEL MONROE, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, über-energetic frontman and iconic rock ‘n’ roll legend, has premiered the new video for “Stained Glass Heart” on GUITARWORLD.com “Stained Glass Heart” marks the third single from his new studio album HORNS AND HALOS, out now on Spinefarm Records.
“I’m feeling quite excited about our new ‘Stained Glass Heart’ video,” explains MICHAEL MONROE. “It was shot in Helsinki at an amusement park on a perfectly grey and rainy day which made it look more like an ‘abusement park.’ The video turned out very cool and classy.”

On the live front, MICHAEL MONROE has revealed plans for an extensive world tour. After a three-date trek in Japan, a headlining U.K. tour will begin November 27 in Newcastle and the group will also appear at this year’s Hard Rock Hell festival on November 30 in North Wales. Following the U.K. run, the group will perform three shows in their home country of Finland. MICHAEL adds, “Now that the new album is out, we can finally play the new songs live and create a whole new set-list. That’s why I’m especially excited about the up and coming tour dates. See you all soon down the road!” Expect more dates and countries to be announced soon.
HORNS AND HALOS is the follow-up to the 2011 critically acclaimed Sensory Overdrive, winner of Classic Rock Magazine’s “Album Of The Year” and a No. 1 record in MONROE’s Finnish homeland. It is a cosmopolitan affair, mixed by Petri Majuri at Seawolf Studios in Finland and written and recorded around the world by MONROE’s international posse–bassist SAMI YAFFA (Hanoi Rocks, New York dolls), guitarist STEVE CONTE (New York Dolls, Company Of Wolves), drummer KARL “Rockfist” ROSQVIST (Chelsea Smiles, Danzig) and Swedish guitar star DREGEN (Backyard Babies). MONROE is a frontman whose reputation is genuinely global and whose influence continues to be felt, with musicians of all ages (from Dave Grohl to the original Guns N’ Roses members) citing his groundbreaking career as a source of inspiration.
The album’s first single released earlier this spring, “Ballad Of The Lower East Side,” is a nod to MICHAEL’s early days in New York, a city he moved to for a decade following the mid-’80s breakup of glam-punk pioneers Hanoi Rocks (for which he was the frontman). It also appears on HORNS AND HALOS. Watch the video for “Ballad Of The Lower East Side” at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhAbtZXu2RU

Legendary guitar hero Slash appeared in Finland for the second time as a solo artist, this time in Hartwall Arena in Helsinki. Slash released his second solo album LOVE APOCALYPTIC LOVE last May and it also features Slash’s longtime touring band members: vocalist Myles Kennedy, drummer Brent Fitz and bassist Todd Kerns. The new album has not only been a sales success, but critics have also generously praised the disc. The success of this album and ongoing tour has proved that ex Guns’n Roses guitarist is doing great on his own without the burdens of the past.

REVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJALA
Year 2012 was another great one for Michael Monroe. The band did shows in U.S, South America, Sweden and they played numerous shows in Finland including all the biggest festivals. Lately the band has been working on the follow up for highly successful SENSORE OVERDRIVE and the album should be out in early 2013. The band returned to Helsinki and Club Tavastia on early December and played three sold out shows in a row. These gigs were the last ones of the SENSORE OVERDRIVE –tour which lasted over one and half years.

2011 was definitely a great year for Michael Monroe. The new album SENRORE OVERDRIVE was a critical and commercial success and Monroe won several prizes from the media including the album of the year award from the valued Classic Rock magazine as well as the band of the year title from Finnish Emma gala. Monroe’s great year ended up with two sold out nights in Helsinki’s Club Nosturi before leaving for a well-earned three month break.

Michael Monroe finally released his long awaited studio album SENSORY OVERDRIVE. Despite this, the band spend the whole last year performing across the globe band now started another tour to support its new release. The new album has received excellent reception here in Finland. It was number one in the official album list here and that’s something, I’m not 100% sure about this, but it’s something that the re-united Hanoi Rock’s was never able to reach with its three albums. For sure it wasn’t an easy thing for Michael to decide to quit Hanoi Rocks but the success of this new album does prove that it was after all a right decision.

RUISROCK FESTIVAL 2010
9 – 11’th of JULY, TURKU, FINLAND
REVIEW AND PHOTOS BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ
Ruisrock celebrated its 40th anniversary in sunny Ruissalo. Although the festival lineup included mostly domestic artists, there were lots of interesting foreign names as well such as the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, former Guns’n Roses guitarist Slash, Arch Enemy, and Amon Amarth represented the heavier side while there were also a long list of bands from pop, punk, prog and alternative worlds as well. Such names as: Billy Talent, Canned Heat, NOFX, Flogging Molly and the Sounds show clearly how versatile the festival Ruisrock is and that mix seems to work out well. Altogether there were over 70,000 visitors in Ruisrock during three days.
