Life in a heavy metal band is indeed filled with twists and turns, highs and lows, ups and downs. On Monday, we rolled out our own whiskey, Legacy Of Kings. Today is a shocking and monumental day for all, HammerFall members and fans alike: Anders Johansson has decided to leave the band, after 15 years as the drummer. Brought on by increasing musical differences, as well as a career in the music industry that spans almost four decades, he has come to the conclusion that enough is enough. But fear not, we have already formulated a plan to get us through this even stronger. As a replacement we have found a most excellent drummer in David Wallin, who most notably has been beating the skins in the Swedish industrial force Pain. David will fill the void left by “The Swedish Tank” with his youthful intensity and fantastic musicianship during the upcoming tour. We wish Anders all the best in his future endeavours and hope that 15 years can’t be erased that easily.
Also, basist Fredrik Larsson will have his second child in December, and is therefore on parental leave through March. But we think you will like the choice to fill his shoes. For anyone who is the least bit familiar with HF, this one needs no introduction: handling the 4-string duty in Fredrik’s absence, none other than former guitar player Stefan Elmgren has agreed to make a triumphant return to the band! Yet another reason not to miss catching us live on the upcoming tours, this will be a very unique constellation. So it is with mixed emotions we say goodbye to an old friend and welcome an even older one back into the fold. The Swedish Templars of Steel cannot and will not be subdued, we will carry on heeding the call as long as the crimson thunder still is flowing in our veins. It is not the end of anything, it’s the dawn of a new era. And we welcome it with our hammers high!
For the third time in a row – in 2009 with No Sacrifice, No Victory, in 2011 with Infected, and now once again with their 2014 release (r)Evolution – Swedish heavy metallers HAMMERFALL have steadily climbed the ranks to have their ninth studio album debut at #1 on the American Billboard Heatseekers chart and clinch their highest-ever first-week sales record in the United States in the process.
From #38 (2009) to #16 (2011) to the top of the American Heatseekers chart this week, (r)Evolution also debuted at #1 in Sweden and entered the Top 10 in five countries.

(r)Evolution – called “the essence of HAMMERFALL at its very purist” by guitarist, songwriter, and founding member Oscar Dronjak – is due out in North America on September 2nd. The album was produced by Fredrik Nordström(DIMMU BORGIR, SOILWORK, OPETH), who also helped produce the first two HAMMERFALL albums, 1997’s Glory To The Brave and 1998’s Legacy Of Kings. Album artwork is by German artist Andreas Marschall (BLIND GUARDIAN, KREATOR, IMMOLATION).
“For this album, we’ve taken everything that makes HAMMERFALL HAMMERFALL and evolved it,” Dronjak has stated.

Two years ago Swedish Heavy Metal Templars HAMMERFALL announced a creative break after celebrating their 15th anniversary of their legendary debut ‘Glory To The Brave’. At the time Oscar Dronjak commented: “We are taking a pause to ensure that we have another 15 years ahead of us” Singer Joacim Cans added: “The plan is to use the year off to recharge our batteries and come back more vital than ever with a new album in 2014″ HAMMERFALL’s anniversary show in Dalhalla was recorded and released afterwards on DVD, followed by the final show at the Wacken Open Air. The German festival was the first show HAMMERFALL ever did outside of Sweden, and marked the beginning of the long and passionate relationship the band has enjoyed with the German metal fans. After the story started and the first chapter ended, there will also be the return: HAMMERFALL are proud to announce their performance at the 25th anniversary of the 2014 Wacken Open Air. This show won’t be a standard one! Oscar Dronjak explains: “It’s very fitting that, when Wacken celebrates its 25th anniversary, they will get a proper “Glory To The Brave” anniversary show. This will be a throwback show to the European gig that launched it all for us: Wacken Open Air 1997. The set list will consist of all the songs from the first album and we’ll of course add some newer songs at the end. We will do this very unique show at Wacken and nowhere else, so if you miss it, you missed it.”
Hammerfall vocalist, Joacim Cans, is confirmed for the part of “Dennis Dupree” in the Swedish stage production of the award winning smash hit musical “Rock of Ages”. In the story, Dennis Dupree is the owner of the Hollywood club called The Bourbon Room. The character was played by Alex Baldwin in the film adaptation of the musical.
Set in LA’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, ROCK OF AGES tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in LA to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. ROCK OF AGES takes you back to the times of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! This five-time Tony Award nominated musical, a movie starring Tom Cruise.
The show premieres at “Chinateatern” in Stockholm on February 21.
Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL will release a concert DVD+2CD and Blu-ray+2CD, “Gates Of Dalhalla”, on November 30 via Nuclear Blast. The set will feature the band’s extraordinary 135-minute 15th-anniversary show that took place on July 28 on the historic open-air stage Dalhalla, built in an old quarry near the small Swedish village Rättvik. The footage was captured by Swedish director Patric Ullaeus of the Revolver Film Company AB, who has previously worked with IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, EUROPE and LACUNA COIL, among many others.
Commented HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak: “The set contained 26 tracks and lasted two hours and 15 minutes, by far the longest and most comprehensive gig of our entire career! We played songs from every album and then some. There were lots of guests and pyros, and we had 80 Marshall cabinets and the big shield with the HF logo carved out in the middle hanging brought out of storage, all set in an extremely unique venue. You really have to see it to understand. This concert really captured the essence of HAMMERFALL live in 2012 very well!”
Special guests during the concert included original HAMMERFALL members Jesper Strömblad (IN FLAMES) and Mikael Stanne (DARK TRANQUILLITY), as well as ex-HAMMERFALL guitarist Stefan Elmgren.
Added Oscar: “Everything concerning this release is special: the venue, the occasion, the setlist, the guests. If you are going to celebrate something, do it properly, and this is exactly what we have done. HAMMERFALL with extra everything, 100% live, 0% bullshit.”
The setlist for the concert was as follows:
01. Patient Zero
02. Heeding The Call
03. Any Means Necessary

The members of HAMMERFALL announced in March that they were take an extended break immediately following their festival appearances this summer.
“It has been an unbelievable first 15 years, to say the least,” said guitarist Oscar Dronjak, “and now we are taking a pause to ensure that we have another 15 years ahead of us.”
There will be no HAMMERFALL activities in 2013, but the band promises to return strong the following year. “The plan is to use the year off to recharge our batteries and come back more vital than ever with a new album in 2014,” explained singer Joacim Cans.
HAMMERFALL’s new album, “Infected”, sold around 1,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD debuted at No. 16 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
HAMMERFALL’s previous CD, “No Sacrifice, No Victory”, opened with 1,400 units to land at No. 38 on the Top New Artist Albums chart.
“Infected” entered the official chart in Sweden at position No. 2 (right behind LADY GAGA!). The CD was released in Europe in May 2011 and was made available in North America in June via Nuclear Blast Records. Laying down the foundation themselves in their own studio in Sweden, the members of HAMMERFALL then traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to finish it up with acclaimed producer James Michael (MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCORPIONS, MEAT LOAF). He also mixed the album, giving it a decisive updated edge without losing any of the essence of the band’s sound.
HAMMERFALL was among the five final nominees that competed for the “Best Hard Rock/Metal” honor at the Swedish Grammis awards (Swedish Grammy equivalent), which was held February 14, 2012 at Kungliga Operan in Stockholm.

CEREMONIAL OATH, the late ’80s/early ’90s Swedish extreme metal band whose members went on to create or join such acclaimed acts as IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL and TIAMAT, has inked a deal with Century Media Records for the re-release of the majority of its catalog, up to and including the 1993 CD “The Book Of Truth”. A tentative late December release date is expected.
As previously reported, CEREMONIAL OATH will reunite for an appearance at the inaugural edition of The Gothenburg Sound festival, set to take place January 5-6, 2013 at Trädgår’n in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Formed in 1988 under the name DESECRATOR, CEREMONIAL OATH released three demos, one EP and two full-length albums before calling it quits in 1995. The band’s former members include such internationally recognized names as Anders Fridén (IN FLAMES), Oscar Dronjak (HAMMERFALL), Jesper Strömblad (IN FLAMES) and Anders Iwers (TIAMAT).
HammerFall pioneered the resurgence of Power Metal in the 1990’s with the release of ‘Glory to the Brave’ and what better way to celebrate its release than with a special 15 th anniversary show. The show was announced at the historic Dalhalla venue which is located at the bottom of an old quarry and surrounded by a moat. The special guests announcement had created a great sense of anticipation for the show and promised to make it something special.
There are still a few basic elements left in life, which are invariable and stand up to the test of time. The same thing can be referred to the classic heavy metal bands like Judas Priest. The band is still as strong and vital as ever although original guitarist and founding member K.K Downing pulled out of Priest before the massive farewell Epitaph tour kicked off in last June. However, he was then replaced by a young bloke Richie Faulkner who does have live experiences working in other bands though. Faulkner’s contribution to Judas Priest was now introduced to the massive fan base of Judas Priest around the globe with a great response. Before the defenders of the metal faith unleashed the metal meltdown, the Swedish Hammerfall let the hammer fall in the ancient godforsaken Ice Hall in Helsinki.
Tonight was the last night of Saxon’s Call to arms tour which had kicked off at Shepherds Bush back in April, and the band had announced in advance that they would be playing the entire "Denim and leather" album to celebrate the albums 30th anniversary. As a result the venue was sold out and a queue had formed outside the venue long before the doors opened.
