Jeff Pilson is an American musician and producer best known for his long stint in the band Dokken. Jeff joined Dokken in 1983 and during the following years he recorded 6 studio and 3 albums with the band including such classics as TOOTH AND NAIL (1984) and BACK FOR THE ATTACK (1987). The band went through several line-up changes and break-ups. Jeff parted ways with the band for the last time in 2004. He was a member of Dio for part of the 1990s and recorded and toured for the albums STRANGE HIGHWAYS (1994) and ANGRY MACHINES (1996) with the band. In the summer of 2004, Pilson became the bass player for the AOR legends Foreigner. He has been part of every Foreigner recording and tour since, including the 2009 studio album, CAN’T SLOW DOWN. Pilson’s credits also include session work with such names as McAuley Schenker Group, Craig Goldy and Wild Horses. Although he is known primarily for his work as a bassist, Pilson is also known as a producer and he has worked in that capacity on his several own projects like War & Peace, T&N and Lynch/Pilson. He has also produced Foreigner’s latest releases and several other bands including Kill Devil Hill, Benedictum, Adler, and Last in Line. I met a good humoured Jeff in June at Sweden Rock, just prior his show with Foreigner. Here’s what the man told us about current Foreigner happenings, the upcoming Dokken reunion, his producing work, and other interesting subjects.

July 3rd, 2016

Once again here we are again as the Finnish two-man-team made their annual road trip to Sweden Rock.  The  2016 line up presented a wide range of metal and hard rock as usual. Over 70 bands offered one hell of an experience for the attendees during the four day festival. Sweden Rock has been successful during the past ten years always being sold out like this year. However, it took a bit longer until all the tickets were gone this year. It has become quite logical for us to give an in depth article of several bands performing at Sweden Rock to all the readers out there. It was sad to see the final show by Twisted Sister, but of course fabulous to see a whole bunch of other bands. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every bloody band, but hopefully you will have a pleasant reading experience… Rock on!

JEFF PILSON – Foreigner, War & Peace, ex- Dokken, DIO

February 7th, 2008

Jeff Pilson, having replaced Juan Croucier in the ranks of DOKKEN after the recording of their debut album BREAKING THE CHAINS in 1983, will always be best remembered as an irreplaceable part of the band’s classic lineup, together with Don Dokken, George Lynch and Mick Brown. Infused with his songwriting talent and stage presence DOKKEN began their ascent towards the top of the rock world. Over the next couple of years they released a string of platinum selling albums, TOOTH AND NAIL in 1984, UNDER LOCK AND KEY the following year and finally BACK FOR THE ATTACK in 1987. At the height of their success, however, the band split up due to internal struggles, while still putting out the live album BEAST FROM THE EAST in 1988. A reunion of the classic lineup finally took place in 1994 and resulted in two albums, DYSFUNCTIONAL and SHADOWLIFE. After George Lynch’s final exit, Jeff stuck around for one more album, ERASE THE SLATE, before opting to follow suit. In addition to DOKKEN, Jeff has toured and recorded three studio albums with DIO: STRANGE HIGHWAYS in 1993, ANGRY MACHINES in 1996 and most recently MASTER OF THE MOON in 2004. He has also cut albums together with THE MCAULEY SCHENKER GROUP, LYNCH/PILSON, WAR & PEACE and FOREIGNER to mention a few. In 2001 he appeared and recorded as a member of the fictional heavy metal band STEEL DRAGON in the movie ROCKSTAR. In this interview Jeff Pilson shares the ups and downs of his career with these groups and more…
