Finland’s folk metal force Ensiferum dropped by London’s O2 Islington Academy on Tuesday 24 March to promote their sixth album, One Man Army. I caught up with their vocalist/ guitarist Petri Lindroos to discuss the album, upcoming shows, touring and the state of the metal world and the music industry today.

Thyrien origins from the land of the thousand lakes -Finland and is a brand new battle/folk metal act that currently released their debut album titled HYMNS OF THE MORTALS – SONGS FROM THE NORTH. Me and lead singer/guitarist Oskari Koivisto hooked up and had a talk about the bands history, the debut album and the guests appearances on it and what the band is up to next. If you’re into folk metal with death metal influences then check out the music of Thyrien.

REVIEW AND PICS ARTO LEHTINEN AND MARKO SYRJALA
There are still a few basic elements left in life, which are invariable and stand up to the test of time. The same thing can be referred to the classic heavy metal bands like Judas Priest. The band is still as strong and vital as ever although original guitarist and founding member K.K Downing pulled out of Priest before the massive farewell Epitaph tour kicked off in last June. However, he was then replaced by a young bloke Richie Faulkner who does have live experiences working in other bands though. Faulkner’s contribution to Judas Priest was now introduced to the massive fan base of Judas Priest around the globe with a great response. Before the defenders of the metal faith unleashed the metal meltdown, the Swedish Hammerfall let the hammer fall in the ancient godforsaken Ice Hall in Helsinki.

Singer Helena Iren Michaelsen from Imperia
Interviewed by: Anders Sandvall
Thanks to Tom Hack at Massacre Records for setting up the interview.
Thanks to Massacre Records for providing the promo pics.
Imperia is the name of a great goth metal act that recently released their brilliant third album entitled SECRET PASSION. I was given the opportunity to hook up with the bands singer Helena Iren Michaelsen (ex- Trail Of Tears) and we sat down to talk about the new album, the label and her thoughts on performing live as well as some more personal questions about Helena herself. If you’re into goth metal, make sure to listen to SECRET PASSION really soon.

FINNISH METAL EXPO
CABLE FACTORY: Helsinki, Finland
15th – 16th 2008
Article and Pics by Arto Lehtinen
The Finnish Metal Expo was arranged for the fourth time. The previous events have been an utter success with sold out nights and awesome band line-ups. The expo is held every year, where several more or less important and not so important musicians and above all metal leaders usually gather to hang out and of course check out the latest on the metal map. Due to overwhelming interest and success, the organization of the Expo has expanded the expo capacity by arranging more space for different kinds of studio and other guitar and band clinics. Two notable band clinics were held by Children of Bodom and Stratovarius members. Of course, record labels, several magazines, and festival representatives werein attendance at the event and all in all everything related to a wide range of metal and hard rock was at the expo. The metal expo wouldn’t be any real expo event without live music and above all metal bands playing there. During these two days plenty of known as well as unknown bands got the great opportunity to play in front of thousands. As a matter of fact, 5000 metal maniacs visited the event during the weekend!
