When it was announced that one of the most celebrated yet also underrated bands formed in the 90’s would be performing their most successful albums in full to celebrate its 20th anniversary, it’s fair to say that anticipation was high. Only something of this magnitude could get the atmosphere around Kentish Town’s Forum was buzzing with excitement on a cold, grey and wet Sunday night in London.

FEAR FACTORY: “Genexus” Artwork and Track Listing Revealed

May 27th, 2015

The pioneers of industrial-tinged extreme metal, FEAR FACTORY, will release their 9th studio album and Nuclear Blast Entertainment debut, entitled Genexus, on August 7th worldwide. Genexus was produced by vocalist Burton C. Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares, and co-produced by long-time collaborator Rhys Fulber. The album was mixed by famed British producer and engineer, Andy Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, TESTAMENT, EXODUS,MACHINE HEAD). Artwork was once again handled by artist Anthony Clarkson. Drums on Genexus were performed by Mike Heller(MALIGNANCY).

“The word genexus is a hybrid of two words; genesis and nexus,” explains vocalist Burton C. Bell. “This word describes the next transition in human evolution as man moves forward to a ‘mechanical’ state of being.  Ray Kurzweil predicts that the singularity will occur around 2045. Genexus is the term for that next evolutionary process. Where humans are machines, machines are human, and the differences are oblivious to the naked eye.

“This album is a record of thought patterns, psychology and struggles of the Genexus generation. The cognitive machine has arrived, and it wants autonomy from the industry that created it. This machine struggles, like every other human has throughout the course of history. This is the story of every one of us.”

FEAR FACTORY, the pioneers of industrial-tinged extreme metal, have issued the following update regarding their upcoming 9th studio release, Genexus:

“The sensation of finalizing our newest album is one of relief and joy, wrapped within a massive whirlwind of excitement,” commented founding guitarist Dino Cazares. “We really feel this is a very special FEAR FACTORY album. While being careful not to replicate ourselves, this album still has a very classic FEAR FACTORY vibe that we feel will appease both old and new fans. The aggressive, melodic and industrial elements are all intact and shine more than ever.

Burt and I produced the album with Rhys Fulber co-producing. Damien Rainuad and Giuseppe Bassi handled most of the keys and pre-production. We also enlisted the masterful metallic skills of Andy Sneap for an amazing mixing job!
“We would like to thank everyone who has been a big part in the making of this record. We can’t wait for everybody to hear it.”

Genexus will be released on August 7th worldwide via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The record was co-produced by long-time collaborator Rhys Fulber, along with Cazares and Bell and mixed by Andy Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD).

Fear Factory

The pioneers of industrial-tinged extreme metal, FEAR FACTORY, have signed a deal for North America & Europe withNuclear Blast Entertainment. Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1989, FEAR FACTORY changed the world of metal and have become a huge influence on the genre ever since their inception. The band’s unique sound helped bridge the gap between death metal, grindcore, thrash, and industrial on landmark releases like Soul Of A New Machine, Demanufacture, and the gold-selling release, Obsolete.

“Evolution and change are key elements in the non-stop growth of FEAR FACTORY,” comments guitarist  Dino Cazares. “With that said, I am proud to be back working alongside the first man to believe in what we were doing back in 1990. He took a chance and signed us, and the rest is history. Monte Conner, once the main A&R man at Roadrunner Records, has now once again come back into the FEAR FACTORY family with his new home – Nuclear Blast Entertainment. We can’t wait to deliver an epic new album to kick off this new era.”

“FEAR FACTORY are truly one of the groundbreaking metal bands of our time,” adds Conner. “On their 1992 debut Soul Of A New Machine, Burton C. Bell introduced the world to the alternating heavy and melodic dual vocal approach that would go on to become a staple in metal to this very day. The following year, they were the first metal band to enter the industrial/dance remix world with the pioneering Fear Is The Mindkiller EP. And look at the countless metal bands who have since imitated the unique machine gun-style rhythm section, created when Dino Cazares’ staccato riffs locked in perfectly with the syncopated kick drums. I am excited to be reunited with this legendary band, and I am certain theirNuclear Blast Entertainment debut will be another FEAR FACTORY classic.” Read the rest of this entry »

FEAR FACTORY Brings The Industrialist To North American Venues

April 11th, 2013
Fear Factory @ Koko

Fear Factory @ Koko

FEAR FACTORY will embark on their first full headlining tour in support of 2012’s conceptual mega-album The Industrialist. Performances begin next week, with the tour set to visit 38 cities throughout the US and Canada.  The tour represents the first live dates by the band on American soil in nearly a year. The World Industrialist tour will feature support from Hate Eternal and Kobra And The Lotus.

Speaking with Full Metal Jackie, vocalist Burton C. Bell describes The Industrialist as, “a very deliberate album and one that came about very naturally to us. There is something so tight about the album. Focus is the one thing that is on this record that doesn’t really appear on any of our other records. The focus of the music, the sounds, the aggression and the concept. Everything had its purpose and we knew exactly what we were doing and what we had to do.”

Fear Factory Interview – Burton C. Bell

Interview by Caitlin Smith @ the Koko, 18th December 2012

With a band that’s been going as long and is as well known as Fear Factory, it’s hard to know what to ask without dragging up questions that have been covered a million times before. Armed with my painstakingly put together list of questions, I catch up with a tired looking vocalist, Burton C. Bell, on the last date of their 7 week tour for a quick chat on all things mechanical.

FEAR FACTORY: “The Industrialist” Video Premiere At Metal Injection

October 25th, 2012

Metal Injection has premiered the full-length version of FEAR FACTORY’s video for the song “The Industrialist” at THIS LOCATION (and below):

The video, directed/edited by James Zahn, utilizes live footage of the band against a visual backdrop that pulls topical subjects from the story written by Burton C. Bell that served as inspiration for the band’s latest album. Released on June 5, the concept-driven The Industrialist was released on CD, vinyl, and digibook; the later includes the entire Bell story and illustrations by the vocalist. Limited copies of the digibook remain available at select retailers.

FEAR FACTORY has been touring non-stop with only 16 shows on US soil since the release of The Industrialist. Making stops in Venezuela, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and next week set to embark on their second European trek (a 41-city endeavor with support coming from Devin Townsend), Bell with guitarist Dino Cazares, bassist Matt DeVries, and drummer Mike Heller are one well-tuned performance machine. Their set currently consists of selections from The Industrialist, 2010’s Mechanize, and classics from the FEAR FACTORY vault. Cazares notes, “We are beyond pumped to bring this new leg of the World Industrialist tour cycle overseas with a mighty package. We have added a few classics which have not been in our set list for some time. We are ready to unleash the new Machine’s of Hate unto all.”

A part of “The Industrialist” video was revealed earlier this year leading up to the release of the album. Over half a million views of the excerpt has been logged to date. Now with the full video, the visual door to the concepts presented on the album are available for music fans to experience. Bell says, “We allowed James to take his time to create the video so that he could match his expertise with the conceptual imagery that was written in ‘The Industrialist.’ Being that he has been a long-time fan of FEAR FACTORY, he understood the nature of the FF-machine; the concepts, imagery, and history. I believe he achieved a new era for FEAR FACTORY video concepts.”

As a long-time fan of FEAR FACTORY, director James Zahn knew his work on “The Industrialist” would be enhanced by his extensive knowledge of the band. “Growing up listening to FEAR FACTORY and being captivated with the heavy industrial scene of the 1990s, the one thing that always stuck with me was the accompanying visual aspect.” He continues by affirming, “those videos that featured stock footage intercut with live performance clips were such a staple of the time and helped in editing ‘The Industrialist.’ Broken technology working alongside machinery in the midst of social change served as inspiration.”

FEAR FACTORY has confirmed the first of many shows expected for 2013; a home town show at Key Club in Los Angeles on January 26. Tickets are on sale now HERE. Prong, Thrown Into Exile, and Scrap Metal will open the show. It will be the band’s first performance in Los Angeles in over two years.

Burton C. Bell of FEAR FACTORY: “We were able to just focus on the music with this one…”

July 6th, 2012
Fear Factory - The Industrialist

Fear Factory – The Industrialist

At this point in his legendary music career, vocalist Burton C. Bell
of FEAR FACTORY has pretty much done it all. He has performed in front
of epic crowds, sold a million records, jammed on an album with a
member of BLACK SABBATH, and helped shaped the future of heavy metal
in a very special way. His band continues to push the envelope when
acts of lesser stature start to rest on their laurels. With countless
fans all over the world, Bell and Co. have never stopped trying to
challenge our own way of thinking.

The Metal Den’s Randy “Rocket” Cody recently conducted a phone
interview with Burton C. Bell. It’s part of his weekly podcast, THE
ROCKET REPORT, bringing the best in heavy music.

Here are a few excerpts from the discussion:

TMD: Burton C. Bell, how’s life treating you, brother?

Burton: Right now I’m on a road trip with the family. We’re driving to
Tennessee to see their great grandmother…

TMD: Were your parents supportive of your desire to build a Rock n
Roll career for yourself or were they against it like most parents?

Burton: (Laughs) Well, it definitely came as a surprise. When I
dropped out of art school in Washington DC… and then I decided to
move to L.A..

TMD: After you and Dino had the falling out or whatnot and you guys
spent 7 years apart… it seems like in interviews you guys are really
getting along. It that something that has fully healed by now?

Burton: Absolutely we get along better than we ever have… the
getting to know you process is over.
