U.S. Progressive Metal pioneers FATES WARNING have finally returned with their first studio album release in about a decade! Entitled Darkness In A Different Light, the album will be released on September 30, 2013 in Europe and October 1, 2013 in North America via InsideOutMusic.
Darkness In A Different Light is FATES WARNING‘s first album of new material since the release of FWX in 2004 and also marks the first release for the band’s stellar current line-up of Ray Alder (vocals), Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti (guitars), Joey Vera (bass) and Bobby Jarzombek (drums).
The album was produced by Matheos and mixed by long time FATES WARNING engineer Phil Magnotti, while mastering was handled by Maor Appelbaum at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, California. The (above pictured) artwork for the album was designed by Conte di San Pietro.
Drummer Bobby Jarzombek (FATES WARNING, SEBASTIAN BACH, HALFORD) issued the following update:
All sorts of stuff going on as I’m getting ready for a busy fall on the road!
Big FATES WARNING news as InsideOutMusic has just announced the album title and release date and unveiled the artwork for the new album! The record is called “Darkness In A Different Light” and will be out September 30 in Europe and November 1 in North America. This is the band’s first new studio album in almost 10 years and my first with them. Needless to say, I’m pretty damn excited because we’ve put a lot of hard work into this record – I know I certainly have. Once again, Jim (Matheos) has written some amazing songs which, in my estimation, are every bit as good as what we did with ARCH / MATHEOS a couple of years ago – and Ray (Alder) is singing great! Read the official press release on the Fates website http://www.fateswarning.com and stay tuned for further details and advance music as we get closer to the actual release.
The wait is over, and one of the premier bands of the American progressive metal movement is back! FATES WARNING are proud to announce that they will enter the studio in April to begin tracking on a new studio album – their first album of new material in nine years, and their first studio release for InsideOut Music.
The U.S. run will launch November 15 in Joliet, IL and wrap December 14 in Seattle, WA. The band’s 11th studio album is set for a fall release, and will feature founding guitarist Jim Matheos, classic lineup members Ray Alder (vocals) and Frank Aresti (guitars), longtime bassist Joey Vera and drummer Bobby Jarzombek. “Just wanted to turn your attention to the latest issue of SICK DRUMMER magazine which is online now at this location http://www.sickdrummermagazine.com/issue21_free/. The guys were kind enough to put me on the cover (a first for me!) and put together a marathon 20-page feature you can read on pages 56 through 77. I don’t think I’ll have to do another interview for a long time – just about anything you ever wanted to know about me as a drummer is in there. Thanks again, Ian!

Arch / Matheos: Band sets “Sympathetic Resonance” as the title of upcoming debut full-length album
Fates Warning guitarist JIM MATHEOS and original vocalist JOHN ARCH team up for new band!
As previously announced, Jim Matheos (current member of the progressive rock powerhouse Fates Warning and OSI) and John Arch (former vocalist of Fates Warning) have teamed up to form the new progressive rock band, ARCH/ MATHEOS. The band -accompanied by Joey Vera on bass, Bobby Jarzombek on drums, and Frank Aresti on additional lead guitar- began tracking the drums on January 12 and continued to record through mid February with Jim Matheos producing. ARCH/ MATHEOS is pleased to announce Sympathetic Resonance as the title of the debut album, which will be released September 13, 2011 in North America.
Jim Matheos offered his insight on the writing and recording process of Sympathetic Resonance; “I think John and I work really well together. There’s a lot of mutual respect and trust in what we do. But, we’re also both very critical of ourselves, and each other. This can make for a long and, sometimes, tedious process. But ultimately it’s one I enjoy because I think it brings out the best in both of us.” John Arch added; “When I first heard some of the arrangements Jim had written and recorded, it took quite some time before I could wrap my mind around the odd time signatures and guitar work going on here. There are some long compositions, so putting anxiety and apprehension on the back burner it was time to dissect these numbers into digestible bits. After the lengthy process of lyrics and melodies, listening to the songs now, I can’t imagine them any other way.” In terms of the lyrical content on Sympathetic Resonance, John Arch notes that “the lyrics this time around are more in line with A Twist of Fate and not of the mystical nature of some past albums.”
More details will be released over the coming months so be sure to stay tuned to MetalBlade.com. ARCH/ MATHEOS pages on Facebook and Twitter coming soon!
