After a nearly four-year hiatus, I am very pleased to return to Metal-Rules.com as a concert reviewer! Having relocated to Denver, I am also pleased to see how many metal shows are coming to the Rockies. I was very excited about this lineup, as CHILDREN OF BODOM and ABBATH (or IMMORTAL?) have created some of my absolute favorite metal CD’s of all time.
Following the release of their best-selling debut album In Hatred’s Flame in 2008, the force known as EXMORTUS has returned to reclaim their rightful throne with their new album Beyond the Fall of Time, scheduled for release on September 6th in North America and September 16th Worldwide on Heavy Artillery Records. Click the link below to see EXMORTUS performing “Kneel before the Steel” from their upcoming album, live at the Keep Metal Alive festival in Tempe, AZ on July 8th.
Los Angeles based EXMORTUS is heading into the studio in February to record their new album Beyond the Fall of Time, which is the long awaited follow up to 2008’s neo classical death metal masterpiece In Hatred’s Flame. To give fans a taste of what to expect EXMORTUS are pleased to preview a demo track called “Destroy” which can be heard via the official HEAVY ARTILLERY Bandcamp page. Here is the link:
As a bonus “Entombed with the Pharaohs”, another demo track from the forthcoming Beyond the Fall of Time that was unveiled this past summer can be heard at the HEAVY ARTILLERY Bandcamp page as well.
Initially making a formidable name for themselves with their relentless gigging in LA metal underground EXMORTUS really started to turn heads with their debut album In Hatred’s Flames. Released during July 2008 on Heavy Artillery Records In Hatreds Flames is an album that was a furious mix of brutality, shredding and melody was undeniably a favorite of critics and fans alike. EXMORTUS immediately hit the road for what would become two years of virtually non-stop touring. During spring 2010, the band was once again faced with a line-up change, this time with the departure of vocalist/second guitarist Balmore. Such a blow might prove a major setback for a lesser band however EXMORTUS immediately rebounded stronger than ever, with lead guitarist Conan taking over vocal duties and new guitarist Sean Redline stepping in to fill the demanding position of second lead shredder. Reinvigorated and refocused with their new line-up, the band hit the studio in May 2010 to lay down two brand new tracks demonstrating the band’s new and even more aggressive approach. In February 2011 EXMORTUS will be entering the studio to begin recording Beyond the Fall of Time with a release date later to be determined.
EXMORTUS are an entity amongst themselves and their music, both complex and thoroughly hook-laden, refuses to lend itself to easy categorization. From the technical death-thrash riffage and surgically precise drumming to their neo-classical, twin virtuoso lead guitar attack, fans of death metal, thrash, prog metal, traditional heavy metal and all true metal sub-genres alike enjoy having their craniums crushed by EXMORTUS.
