Carcass on Halloween in Colorado!

November 26th, 2014

Carcass Carcass

My husband and I showed up to The Black Sheep in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 8:00 on Halloween night. Allegedly doors were at 7:00 but I guess the show started early or something, because we missed openers Noisem from Baltimore and Exhumed! I was looking forward to seeing Noisem because they hail from near my homeland in Richmond VA and have a split out with some friends of mine from Richmond, Occultist. I really like grindcore, and from what I’ve heard recorded they are pretty rippin’. I also of course wanted to catch Exhumed, being that they are one of my all-time favorite bands, but I have seen them before and will no doubt get to catch them again.

EXHUMED: California Horror Hellions Kick Off Fall Tour

October 25th, 2014

Today, California’s favorite death-laden horror hellions, EXHUMED, will take their sonic debauchery to the streets for a Fall run of US live invasions with extreme metal technicians Carcass and manic death thrashers Noisem. Set to commence in San Diego tonight at Brick By Brick, the Inked In Steel Tour 2014 will conquer nearly two dozen municipalities with additional audio infiltrations from death metal legends Obituary and Macabre on select dates. From there EXHUMED will return to Europe for further live devastation alongside Aborted, Origin and Miasmal.See confirmed shows below.

Comments guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey, “We’ve been sequestered in our grimy rehearsal room, taking time out of our busy schedules of soul-crushing day jobs and DUI classes to tighten up our set for our upcoming US and European runs, and we’re getting seriously psyched for them! Our newest member, Matt ‘Slime’ Ferri is working out great on bass and vocals and we’ve got some killer new elements for our show that should make it an unsafe and insane way to spend your evening. See you in the Gore Zone, mutants!”

Exhumed – Matt Harvey

May 14th, 2014

Exhumed came back to Helsinki, Finland, mid March to promote “Necrocracy” which has been praised by fans and critics alike, and once again I sat down with Exhumed’s vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey to talk about the recent album, touring, some possible future plans for the band and a bit also about one of Matt’s side project, Dekapitator.

EXHUMED – Interview with Matt Harvey

EXHUMED – Interview with guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey

By Peter Atkinson

Photos from Exhumed Official Facebook Page

Life sometimes does imitate art. This seems to be surprisingly true of death metal, long a bastion of tales of corpses coming back to life and rising from the grave to feast on the living. Over the last several years, some of death metal’s legendary and long-dead acts have been reanimated, throwing open their coffins to once again walk the Earth to maim and kill – metaphorically, of course. Carcass just released their first album in 17 years, Surgical Steel, in September. Chicago’s Broken Hope will issue their first album in 11 years, Omen of Disease, in October.

Both bands, however, were beaten to the punch by California’s fittingly named Exhumed, who returned after a comparatively brief five-year slumber in 2011 with All Guts, No Glory, which they then followed up this August with their sixth full-length Necrocracy. This second life has proven rather revitalizing for the one-time hack-and-slash gore-grinders who have morphed into groovier, more technically adept – and even somewhat cerebral – death metallers. Led by guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey, the lone constant member who was all of 15 when the band formed in 1990, Exhumed have enjoyed a steady diet of touring since their resurrection, gained a ton of new fans and found, for once, a seemingly solid lineup.

During a phone interview prior to a pair of high-profile shows at The Troubador in L.A. opening for Carcass, Harvey offered his thoughts on Exhumed’s return, resurgence and less gruesome, but still lethal, “gore metal.”

EXHUMED: European Takeover Commences Today

May 8th, 2013

Following a maniacally successful run of US live assaults alongside Suffocation last month, West Coast road goliaths EXHUMED will take their hymns of repugnance overseas on an epic long storm through Europe. The journey deploys today in Bristol, UK and will soil nearly three dozen cities! No one is safe.

Says EXHUMED throat Matt Harvey, “We’re psyched to be back in the olde world for the Summer, exploring every available nook and cranny of Europe and subsequently filling them with empty beer cans, barf, and a hellish racket. We’re here to spread the word about our upcoming record that’s coming out in August, play some killer underground festivals, and enjoy some more flavorful beer for a change. It’s also killer to finally be in Europe with our ever-present staff physician, Dr. Philthy, which will allow us to do our full stage show in Europe for the first time, so it should be a good time for all in attendance. We’re here for quite a while, so we may even accidentally acquire a little class and culture. But probably not. See you all in the front!”

EXHUMED Announce Japanese Tour Dates With Cannibal Corpse

September 13th, 2012

Relentless road demons, EXHUMED, will add to their expanding agenda of  live takeovers with a string of Japanese tour dates alongside death metal pioneers CANNIBAL CORPSE!  The shows kick off on October 15th in Tokyo and will serve as a warm up to the band’s recently announced five-week North American Tour with Napalm Death and Municipal Waste with additional support from Vektor, Dayglo Abortions, Attitude Adjustment, Speedwolf, Martha Splatterhead’s Revenge, Repulsion and Dwarves on select dates.

Notes frontman Matt Harvey: “We are totally psyched to head back to the land of the rising sun! Japan has always been one of our favorite places to play —  the kids are amazing, the food is great, and the giant robots are just a delight! To go there with our friends in Cannibal is even cooler, and we are pumped to make sure this will be a death metal spectacle of epic proportions. It’s been quite a while since we’ve been there so it will rule to trot out some new tunes in between sake bombs and bar hopping in Roppongi.”

Additionally, the band plan to enter the studio at the end of the year to begin recording their sixth full-length and follow-up to All Guts, No Glory. All Guts, is still streaming in its entirety HERE. And if you missed it, check out “The Way Of Flesh” from the deluxe version of the record courtesy of GunShyAssassin at THIS LOCATION.

Exhumed & Anaal Nathrakh

@ The Garage

March 23rd  2012

Review by Joffie Lovett

Photography by Graham Hilling

Approaching the venue in London coming out of Highbury & Islington tube station, the first inkling I have is one of a bit of worry that this concert may not happen at all, as when leaving the station the crowd is confronted by multiple fire fighting vehicles and crew all outside with blue lights on and everyone looking slightly confused. Luckily when getting further towards them it seems as though whatever major incident had occurred has been dealt with and the fire fighters are just standing around and chatting in front of the venue, a weird experience for the start of a show but one of those things I guess.

Standing in the queue, I can’t help but notice the large amount of younger people in their late teens attending the show which I found surprising compared to the more-older fans you often find at extreme metal shows throughout London. They all seem extremely excited, enthusiastic and chomping at the bit to see both bands live so it’s great to see the more extreme forms of metal reaching younger fans. Oddly enough a few members of the crowd are waiting in line reading books whilst waiting to enter the venue as well, I couldn’t see what books they were reading but hopefully material from Friedrich Nietzsche (given his influence on Anaal Nathrakh’s material) or such like rather than The Very Hungry Caterpillar or Spot The Dog…

Exhumed – Matt Harvey and Wes Caley

April 17th, 2012

Matt Harvey and Wes Caley of Exhumed

Interview by Petri Da Costa

Pics by Petri Da Costa and Arto Lehtinen

Formed over 20 years ago by vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey and drummer Col Jones (who left the band back in 2003), Exhumed is currently at one of their best moments. Over these 20 years of gore/death metal, the band faced many line up changes, but always releasing demos, splits and full length records. However, in 2005, sometime after ”Garbage Daze Re-Regurgitated” came out, the band stopped. Most fans didn’t know what had happened and were left hoping that one day Exhumed would return. After a 5 year break, Exhumed came back and recorded one of their best albums, ”All Guts, No Glory”, which received a lot of positive feedback from fans and media. I interviewed Matt Harvey and guitarist Wes Caley couple of hours before the band would play in Helsinki, Finland, to talk about the new record, the tour, future plans and horror movies.

EXHUMED Forced To Cancel Brazilian Dates

February 15th, 2012

Due to unforeseen visa issues, California ministers of gore EXHUMED have been forced to cancel their previously scheduled dates in Brazil this week with Aborted.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: “We are totally weakened to have to cancel our Brazilian dates. Due to our visa applications getting rejected, we cannot legally enter the country at this time — in fact, they threatened to ban us from being there for a decade. We are doing everything we can to reschedule these dates as soon as possible. Due to the bullshit policies of U.S. immigration/customs and Brazilian customs’ policy of reciprocity, our visas were refused by the Brazilian consulate before even being processed. We seriously and very sincerely apologize to all our friends in Brazil who wanted to see the band. We will do everything in our power to work with our agent, the promoter, and the immigration assholes in the U.S. and Brazil to get this squared away. This is a serious bummer. We will spend the extra week before heading to Europe looking at hot Brazilian chicks on the Internet instead of in real life and being really, really pissed off.”

EXHUMED will kick off the 16-date Grind Over Europe Tour with Rotten Sound and Magrudergrind on February 24 then join Anaal Nathrakh for a short run of U.K. dates. From there, the band will take their audio menace stateside for a handful of headlining shows before jumping on a near month-long bout of U.S. dates with death metal icons Cannibal Corpse! Joined by labelmates Abysmal Dawn and Arkaik, the live rituals will commence on April 5 in Jacksonville, Florida and include an appearance at the The Cincinnati Metal Fest on April 14 as well as a special show on April 28 where the brutal caravan will merge with the Decibel Magazine tour featuring Behemoth, Watain, The Devil’s Blood and In Solitude.

EXHUMED: California Goregrind Legends Announce First Ever Brazilian Dates

December 16th, 2011

Goregrind overlords EXHUMED are pleased to announce four Brazilian shows this Winter with Aborted. This will mark the band’s first time ever in the country. The short but epic run will commence on February 17, 2012 and hit Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Alegre.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: “We are beyond psyched to head to Brazil for the first time. We’ve been getting letters and emails from folks down there for years and it is going to be awesome to finally be able to play for those maniacs south of the equator. I know they’re ready for some serious gore fucking metal and we can’t wait to deliver it to them!”

EXHUMED w/ Aborted

2/17/2012 Music Hall – Belo Horizonte, MG

2/18/2012 Hangar 110 – São Paulo, SP

2/19/2012 Hangar Bar – Curitiba, PR

2/20/2012 Bar Opinião – Porto Alegre, RS

EXHUMED will be touring in support of All Guts, No Glory, issued earlier this year via Relapse Records. The band’s first new record in almost eight years offers up 11 choice cuts of grinding death metal and has turned up on multiple Year End lists including Decibel, Pitchfork,, MetalSucks and Skulls N Bones! Metal Underground praised the release saying: “EXHUMED are back, hungry, vicious, and unrelenting,” while Decibel Magazine noted: “Everything seems more fluid and powerful, though as vicious as it all is, the focus remains on the composition and how it smacks the listener between the eyes.” Revolver agreed: “… fans of dripping blood, gaping autopsies, and ravenous zombies will absolutely adore this record.” Added Aborted: “EXHUMED has not only strongly persisted over the last 20 years, but has also managed to simultaneously keep their musical integrity and brutal, gore-filled lyrics fully intact.”
