One of the most influential names on the Swedish metal scene is Gothenburg’s Evergrey. The band debuted in 1998 and their melodic, dark, political and technical metal increased its fanbase with every new release. Albums like “In Search of Truth” (2001), “Recreation Day” (2003) and “Monday Morning Apocalypse” (2006) are all modern metal classics. In May 2010, fans were shocked to find out that Evergrey had lost three of their five members. Obviously, the band’s future looked bleak. Thankfully, singer/guitarist/band leader Tom S Englund and keyboard player Rikard Zander held their ground. Another strong line-up has made another strong album, called “Glorious Collision”. Evergrey are back with a vengeance, making their return to SRF an event to look forward to for any and all metal fans.
An Evening With EVERGREY and VANDEN PLAS has been announced for the ProgPower USA XII Kick-Off Show on Thursday, September 15th as part of the annual event’s festivities. The returning fan favorites will co-headline the night and will each perform a 90-plus minute special set. There will be no opening act. In addition, Evergrey will perform an acoustic show as part of Mid-Week Mayhem on Wednesday, September 14th with metal karaoke immediately following to round out the night. Due to the intimate nature of the setting, only 200 tickets will be made available to the public.
Vanden Plas will also perform a semi-acoustic show on Saturday, September 17th as part of the exclusive Gold Badge Series of shows. Tickets for this show are not available to public, as ProgPower USA XII Gold Badge tickets are sold-out.
North America’s premier progressive and power metal festival returns to Center Stage in Atlanta, GA on September 16 &17th with the following confirmed bands:
Having a metal gig before the easter break with two Swedish metal names, NightInGale and Evergrey, appeared to be both interesting and temptating because of the line-up. Both bands definitely enjoy a more true fan based following in Finland. Above all, NightInGale definitely draws some expected interest from the progessive genre, but of course Evergrey has the fan-legion of their own.

It goes without saying that Evergrey are a unique band. Having formed in Sweden in 1996, the band has fascinated listeners with exceptional studio albums and an equally captivating stage show. The band is currently readying themselves for the release of their new album which should be in the hands of fans before Christmas. I had the opportunity to speak to vocalist/guitarist Tom S. Englund and he filled me in on a few things about the band’s songwriting process as well as eagerly awaited new album.
The Central Park Of Kaisaniemi ? Helsinki ? Finland 15th ? 17th of July 2005
Pics and reviews by Metal-Rules.com team Finland
What happens in the middle of July in the central park of the summer city of Helsinki every year? Well, what a easy question, the annual Tuska Open Air Metal festival takes place every year at that time. It pulls in over 33.000 metal hearts of all ages and all kinds of persons to spend an unforgettable metallic feast in the heart of Helsinki. As it is said The Gods made heavy metal which has turned out be nothing but right in every aspect as the weather was extremely warm and hot during the whole weekend apart from a few darker clouds having gathered around the area when Dimmu Borgir stepped on the stage and in general the atmosphere was peaceful and bigger problems managed to be avoided, thanks to the common metal spirit of the Finnish die hard metal freaks.
The bill of 2005 didn?t offer any offer so-called any big selling names like Nightwish being one of the headlining acts at Tuska last year, but instead a variety of different metal genres were at present ranging from a hyper-blasting grindcore to a more melancholic Finnish mainstream rock. Having a large range of metal proves Tuska is not limited to one certain metal category as everyone had something to feel, taste and see during the three long days.
The Tuska Open Air festival has reached and gained a lot of positive attention amongst the metal people around the world. There were people having arrived from Russia, Estonia, Sweden, all around Europe and even from some Far East countries. Despite not having a big name, the metal festival was totally sold out and even a few hundred leftover tickets for Friday were sold after all.
As usual it has turned out to be an annual mandatory tradition for having an article of the Tuska festival in Metal-Rules.Com, therefore the Finnish Metal-Rules.Com pain squad spent the whole weekend testifying several acts in action and tried to feel the spirit of Heavy Metal and enjoy the pleasure of the flesh as well during the three insane long days in the beautiful central park of Kaisaniemi and in the heart of Helsinki with several friends as well as everlasting enemies. Enjoy?
