Timepieces: The Best Of (SACD)
2015, Audio Fidelity
Audio Fidelity is known for putting out high quality reissues and this is no exception. In fact this is one of the best they have done. This along with the THE BEST OF THE GUESS WHO are simply wonderful. There is no other way to condense it in that they are perfect examples of a reissue done right.
Being a casual Clapton this disc sparked my interest as it has nearly all my favorite Clapton songs on it. I enjoy his earlier work with John Mayall and his early to mid seventies stuff. To me that is when he was more creative and this ‘Best Of’ sums up his solo material perfectly. For a casual fan such as myself you couldn’t ask for better. It is also a good starting point for someone that is just starting to get into music or play guitar and want to check out Clapton’s music. This is ideal in every way.
Having heard these songs numerous times I can say without hesitation that they have never sounded better. They sound clear and everything is mixed so well that you may hear things that you’ve never heard or noticed before. They don’t sound dated or like they were recorded four decades ago. Hard to describe with words but the music sounds fresh and real. It lacks that modern aspect that many of today’s album’s have. Less clinical and precise? More human? However you’d like to put it this is real music performed by real musicians and it shows.
Labels take note on how to do a simple reissue, this is how it’s done. Quality all around. I cannot say a bad thing about this release. You will not be disappointed with this SACD (Yes it plays in a regular CD Player). Kudos to Audio Fidelity. Keep ‘em comin’.
