EPICA Release “Unchain Utopia” Lyric Video

May 23rd, 2014

Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal band EPICA, has released a lyric video for the track “Unchain Utopia”, below. The song comes from their new album The Quantum Enigma, which was released earlier this month via Nuclear Blast records.

“The ‘Unchain Utopia’ lyric video is one of the coolest lyric videos I have ever seen,” commented guitarist Mark Jansen. “The footage worked out very well for this approach. Images and words strengthen each other. Initially we had a normal video in mind but that didn’t have the same impact. We hope you will enjoy ‘Unchain Utopia’!“ Read the rest of this entry »

EPICA with ALESTORM: Irving Plaza New York, NY October 26th, 2012

November 13th, 2012

EPICA with ALESTORM

Words and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

Irving Plaza – New York, NY

October 26th, 2012

EPICA’s live show has twice-wowed me, even if their CD’s have not. Their most recent album “Requiem for the Indifferent” left me feeling, well, a bit indifferent towards the newest tunes. Something that had really gelled during “Design your Universe” got lost in the new effort, and the result wasn’t compelling. Maybe experiencing them again live would change that?

Epica & Alestorm – Toronto, October 31, 2012

November 4th, 2012

Epica & Alestorm

Support: System Divide & Insomnium

Live at the Opera House

Toronto, Canada

October 31, 2012

Review and photos by Ag Babin

It was one of the most diverse crowds that made their way to the Opera House for the Epica and Alestorm show, a truly unique event. In addition to the excitement of a strong lineup on this tour, the magic of Halloween filled the venue with fancy costumes and the usual candy. So, on this rainy evening an army of pirates and other strange creatures gathered together to celebrate the holiday in the best possible way.

EPICA & ORIGINAL BASSIST PART WAYS; REPLACEMENT ANNOUNCED

March 27th, 2012

Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA have issued the following statement:

“It is with sadness that we announce that Yves Huts and EPICA have decided to part ways. Yves has been with us from the start and has been of great value to the band.  We thank Yves for his contribution to EPICA’s success and wish him the very best in his future career, whether musically or in a different direction. We will never forget the good times together on the road!”

Former EPICA bassist Yves Hut shares:

“The 013 in Tilburg is the venue where we did our first show with EPICA and, almost a decade later, also my last.  I’m leaving the band because I have another career opportunity that is not combinable with the schedule of a world-touring band.  I’ve tried to live these two different lives simultaneously for as long as I could, but in the end I just had to make a choice, one of the most difficult ones in my life.  I look back to these 10 years in EPICA satisfied and enriched with life experience.  As a founding member, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far and I’m sure the future has a lot more great things in store for the band.  I would like to thank the band, crew, fans and everybody else involved for the good times and I wish my successor good luck.  Those of you that might be interested in any possible future musical plans of mine can visit my artist page on www.facebook.com/yves.huts.official.  Kind regards.”

EPICA members go on to say:

“The silver lining to this cloud is that we can already announce an awesome successor. Fulfilling duties on bass from now on will be none other than Rob van der Loo. You might know Rob from his work with MaYaN or Delain. We are sure that Rob will fit perfectly as a musician and as a person, and we are looking forward to share the stage for the first time next week.”

Current MaYan / new EPICA bassist Rob van der Loo adds:

“A few days ago I spoke to Yves and he brought back a memory from the time when EPICA was still just a support band for one of my former bands.  At that time, he would never have guessed that almost ten years later I’d be his successor in EPICA…. Well, neither did I… but I’m damn proud of it!  I’ve been sharing the stage with the people of EPICA for almost ten years now, and becoming a member of MaYaN last year brought us even closer.  So making this decision to join EPICA  feels pretty good, therefore, I want to show my gratitude to the band members (including Yves) and the crew for allowing me in the EPICA family!  See you guys on the road!   I won’t let you down!”

EPICA ISSUE IMPORTANT STATEMENT REGARDING THEIR NEW ALBUM

March 15th, 2012
Epica

Epica

Holland’s symphonic metal band EPICA have issued the following statement:

“Dear Fans,

We’re very happy that our new album Requiem For The Indifferent is out as a result of 2.5 years of passionate and hard work.

“However, as you may have noticed, ‘Serenade Of Self-Destruction,’ the last song of the album, is missing some vocals.  Somehow the instrumental version of the song ended up on the master of the full album and this didn’t get noticed before the actual release.  Everybody involved in making and producing the album has given everything to get the best possible result so we can’t blame anyone for this.  We know that this is a mistake which wasn’t made on purpose.  As we don’t want to disappoint any of our beloved fans, we are trying everything in our power to solve this issue.

“The get all the songs in their complete form and enjoy the new album fully, Nuclear Blast has released the full version of ‘Serenade Of Self-Destruction’ as a digital download.  You can get the song here.

“Seen from the bright side, everybody who gets the current CD will have a unique first pressing, which might end up being a collector’s item.

“We wish you a great time listening to our album and we hope to see you all on the road!”

On Friday, September 14th, EPICA will be headlining the ProgPower XIII festival in Atlanta, Georgia.

EPICA’s sixth studio release, Requiem For The Indifferent, was produced by Sascha Paeth (EDGUY, KAMELOT, AVANTASIA).  The band’s last studio album, 2009’s Design Your Universe, debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart at #12 and the Top Hard Music Albums chart at #47.

EPICA INTERVIEW – Simone Simons & Isaac Delahaye

February 13th, 2012

Epica Interview By Rhiannon Marley

Photography by Jo Blackened

Altercarnated Photography

2nd February 2012

Simone Simons is taking no prisoners. Well, no male ones anyway. “Most of the time, people don’t think there’s ‘more’ behind a pretty face. They think you might be stupid, or that you don’t have an opinion, or a high IQ… But I believe myself that women have the same potential as guys, and can also lead…” Isaac Delahaye almost squirms. His self-consciousness at the ‘glamour with grey matter’ eggshell is comically amplified because he’s the lone chap, stuck between four walls with three ladies. “I’d better watch my words!”, he laughs nervously, “I’ll just say, ‘I totally agree!’” Ell-Oh-Ell.

EPICA Seeking Fan Input On Special Edition Of Forthcoming Album

December 11th, 2011
Epica

Epica

Dutch symphonic metal band, EPICA, posted the following update:

“We have a question to our fans. Nuclear Blast has asked us what we think of the idea to create a special edition of the new album, Requiem For The Indifferent, with a bonus CD containing orchestral versions of the songs. Our labelmates NIGHTWISH have done this as well. If you guys like this idea we’ll make it happen.”

Go to the band’s official Facebook page here to participate in the discussion.

Epica will release their new album, Requiem For The Indifferent, in Europe via Nuclear Blast on March 9th, 2012. The album will be released in North America on March 13th, 2012. Producer Sascha Paeth mixed the album at Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Says the band: “This title refers to the end of an era. Mankind can no longer stick their head in the sand for the things that are happening around us. We are facing many challenges. There is an enormous tension between different religions and cultures, wars, natural disasters and a huge financial crisis, which is getting out of control. More than ever we will need each other to overcome these problems. As we are all connected; the universe, earth, nature, animals and human beings, this period in time will be the prelude to the end for those who still don’t want to, or simply won’t see it. A Requiem For The Indifferent but also a possibility for a new beginning with great new chances!”
