Their albums are further bolstered by a live show that has become one of the most entertaining in all of metal. Proof of ENSIFERUM’s status as one of the most vital bands in modern metal was made apparent through their headlining slot on this year’s Paganfest USA tour. To further spread the band’s music to a worldwide audience, ENSIFERUM has forged a deal with Metal Blade Records! The band inked the deal with Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel during the Paganfest USA tour, and all parties are enthusiastic about new music and new possibilities.

Bassist/backing vocalist Sami Hinkka comments: “We are really looking forward to our co-operation with such a great and legendary label as Metal Blade. The next full length album should be out in early 2015. We have already started working with the new songs and it’s obvious that the next album will be another step ahead for Ensiferum. And now that we have united forces with mighty Metal Blade nothing can stop us! The next album is going to be something that will rock the very foundations of folk metal genre.

“We also would like to thank Spinefarm Records for all these 13 years, it’s been as blast but now it is time for us to move on and head bravely towards new challenges.

Essentially, ENSIFERUM doesn’t play the stupid, folk metal game, and on Unsung Heroes, they manage to stay the course with sterling results.”

Review by Rhiannon Marley

Photography by Andre Purvis

If you’re a miserable human being, don’t go to see Ensiferum!

I worked that out during the 2011 Ugly World Tour, on which they were joined by fellow Scandinavians Amon Amarth and Children of Bodom, and tonight, I couldn’t wait to see if Ensiferum would slay the crowd again – this time, in leading role!

How did we get talking about picnics in parks, I hear you ask? Well, we’re doing the interview outside and the sun is shining with the security guard of the O2 Islington just admonished Sami for wanting to bring his beer out to join him. Bad times!

Tonights gig is a big’un! Two top draw bands at the top of their game; in my humble opinion, and a band that I’ve heard of, but never had the pleasure. What a pleasure tonight was though!

The Finnish Metal Tour 2 with Finntroll & Ensiferum

The Finnish Metal Tour 2 with Finntroll & Ensiferum

Finntroll

The Gramercy Theater – New York, NY

February 26th, 2011

Review and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

Last April, I was fortunate enough to catch the original Finnish metal tour featuring Finntroll and their sister band Moonsorrow, which thoroughly blew me away. The tour must have been quite a success, since Finntroll enlisted Viking metal warlords Ensiferum for a second round of stateside Pagan folk lunacy. Also on board were two Finnish bands I hadn’t heard of, Barren Earth and Rotten Sound.

The Finnish Metal Tour Returns to the USA in 2010

August 17th, 2010

Following a successful first run in 2010, The Finnish Metal Tour will once again unleash itself on North America in early 2011. Dubbed “The Finnish Metal Tour 2”, and presented by title sponsor Decibel Magazine, the tour will feature co-headliners Finntroll (Century Media) and Ensiferum (Spinefarm). Additional support will come from Barren Earth (Peaceville), and Rotten Sound (Relapse). The tour will start on January 31st 2011 in Orlando FL, and conclude on March 4th in Raleigh NC.

FINNTROLL have returned with their highly anticipated new slab of folk-rooted metal hymns entitled Nifelvind that is now available everywhere. It was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios (Apocalyptica, Amorphis, Ensiferum) in Helsinki, Finland and mastered by Mika Jussila (Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, HIM) at Finnvox Studios. The album cover artwork was done again by the band’s own guitarist Skrymer and visually captures the true FINNTROLL spirit perfectly. The band toured throughout North America this past April with Moonsorrow and Swallow the Sun. Head over now to www.myspace.com/officialfinntroll in order to stream new tracks and view their tour itinerary.

Finnish folk metallers ENSIFERUM released their 4th album “From Afar” on September 8, 2009 via Spinefarm Records. The CD was produced by Tero Kinnunen (Nightwish, Amorphis) and Janne Joutsenniemi, who produced the band’s previous offering, Victory Songs and mixed by Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Sentenced, Amorphis). Ensiferum completed their first headline tour of the USA this past November with Blackguard and Swashbuckle. Visit the band’s MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/officialensiferum to check out tracks, and view the latest tour dates and news as it becomes available.

Ensiferum bassist Sami Hinkka had this to say about the upcoming tour: “Greetings from the north our brothers and sisters of the new continent! The time has come to unite forces with our fellow countrymen and raid your cities with unforeseen power. The amount of alcohol consumption on this tour is going to be horrifying, so don’t forget to bring your drinking horn! Grab your swords and hold them high with pride and join the ultimate metal event of 2011. Folk on!”

Tickets for the tour will be available starting August 17th, 2010 via an exclusive internet presale on www.enterthevault.com.
