Deep in the autumnal gloom (read: rain) in the heart of Belfast, the last thing one would expect was a gig featuring not one, but THREE languages other than English. Right? Well, that was exactly what punters got when they ventured out on a rather meh Friday night in November.

Metal, beer and bratwurst are the unholy alliance at German metal festivals. Those festivals are those things that every banger has to experiment once in lifetime. Even though festivals are packed by those obvious and quaranteed bands on the bill, but missing the true metal feeling is something. Summer Breeze has grown tremendously and gained the monumental status amongst several other metal festivals in Germany. The main headliner of this year was without any doubts Machine Head. The Summer Breeze festival is the well organized metal festival in Southern Germany. Even though most of bands appeal to the metal public, but some strange German acts such as JBO were on the bill. However, Summer Breeze was a great success, despite the horrible weather. Here is the brief article of the fest.

“This one’s long overdue,” states the band. “Another Origins song you say? Well, yes indeed. Finally, a song about our beautiful mountains? That, too. But also an idea we’ve considered for a number of years now: a song released not just in English and/or Gaulish, but in all four of Switzerland’s beautiful national languages! So we present to you: ‘The Call Of The Mountains’! A song about the long searched for destination at the end of the epic journey of the Celts, who were to become the Helvetians – a song about our mystical and unparalleled alps. Besides the English album version, you will find the full song in Swiss German, French, Italian and of course Romansh both on Nuclear Blast’s mail-order edition and on iTunes, where you will of course be able to get them separately, too. After recently parting ways with violinist Meri Tadic, Swiss folk metal institution ELUVEITIE are pleased to officially welcome Nicole Ansperger into the fold!
“As hard as farewells can be, new beginnings can be very auspicious are as well,” commented ELUVEITIE in a mutual statement. “We are thrilled to introduce to you Meri’s successor. We consider ourselves lucky to have found a true master of Celtic Folk fiddling! A full-blooded musician and violin player through and through, she has played countless shows over many years and also played as a session musician for many well-known acts (such as THE HOOTERS, for instance). During the last ten years she further made a name for herself through her engagement with the Irish folk rock bands PADDY GOES TO HOLYHEAD and ACROSS THE BORDER, but also the renowned medieval/classical metal act HAGGARD. Not only a virtuoso of the fiddle, she also plays the 7-stringed violin as well as the cello! So, ladies and gentlemen – please welcome to the ELUVEITIE camp: Nicole Ansperger!”
“Dear ELUVEITIE fans, I am absolutely delighted to be ELUVEITIE’s new violin player. I love ELUVEITIE’s music and have been a fan myself for a long time. Is there anything better than getting to play for the band you love? I am looking forward to many sweat-inducing, incredible shows with you and the band. See you on stage!”

O Wintersun. Thou art as a secret mistress long yearn’d for.

With thy sweet fingers when thou gently sway’st
The wiry concord that mine ear confounds” Read the rest of this entry »

Review by Rhiannon Marley

Whether you think of Sabaton as pioneers of modern power metal or a bunch of self-confessed ‘Village People in combats’, the fact is, they’re bloody good fun. Flying high with 2012’s Carolus Rex after a renowned post-recording line-up change, the belligerent Swedes are hitting the HMV Forum tonight in force – and from what I’ve heard, in FLAMES…
