August 3rd, 2014

An interview with Herman Li of DragonForce

Interviewed by Metalette

DragonForce_42

World-famous British metalers DragonForce are releasing their 6th album, titled “Maximum Overload”! Creating this album allowed the band to push themselves to new limits and evolve in their sound, while still retaining the essence of what the band has always been all about. I had the chance to ask some questions of DragonForce guitarist Herman Li, a founding member of the band.

Review by Mark Ashby

It was just a week shy of four years since the progressive metal band that everyone loves to hate, Dragonforce, had last headlined this very same venue and on that occasion, they were absolutely atrocious, with some fans walking out and others booing the band off stage… but, we’ll come back to this train of thought in a few paragraph’s time.

DragonForce with Holy Grail and Huntress: The Gramercy Theater New York, NY April 22nd, 2012

DragonForce

with Holy Grail and Huntress

The Gramercy Theater – New York, NY

April 22nd, 2012

Review and pictures by Kyle Moore, the Metal Magnus

I got to see DragonForce back in Orlando in 2008, and was underwhelmed. They had fantastic energy and clearly were having lots of fun on stage, but (to nobody’s shock) their live rendition of their songs doesn’t begin to match what we hear on their crack-infused records. Four years later, I was excited to see how/if they had improved their live set, and how new vocalist Marc Hudson fit in.

New album by Z P Theart (ex Dragonforce singer) and his new band I AM I

April 19th, 2012
I AM I

I AM I

It’s been far too long a wait for the return of former Dragonforce singer ZP Theart and his fabulous new band I AM I.

The new album ‘Event Horizon’ will be released on May 26th. Written by Theart and Jacob Ziemba, and produced by Roland Grapow (Helloween/Masterplan), this album is an absolutely blistering slice of heavy rock liberally infused with Theart’s passion, energy and soaring vocals.

‘Event Horizon’ will be the first heavy metal album to be released on USB packaged in a CD style case with full artwork, and will be available for pre order very soon from the Official I AM I website at http://iamiofficial.com.

The band will be releasing this independently as they have decided to move away from the traditional Record Company route, everything about the release of ‘Event Horizon’ is much more personal to ZP, the band and fans and they want to keep it that way!

The fabulous debut track ‘This Is My Life’ is just a mere taster of what you can expect from I AM I and can be found here:

I AM I debut track ‘This Is My Life’

The debut promo video for the song ‘Silent Genocide’ will be released at the end of April & the band will be making there first ever performance live at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on May 27th. The line up is Paul Clarke Jr who was Manowar’s deputy drummer for their 2011 tour, Jacob Ziemba on guitars and Neil Salmon on bass.

Tickets for the 27th May show are limited to 600 and are also available from the Official I AM I website.

This is simply a stunning debut, and a quote from ZP sums up the way we all feel about this album:

“My whole career has been leading up to this point and I’ve never been more proud of anything in my life, this album will definitely live up to it’s name.”

DRAGONFORCE: ‘Cry Thunder’ Video Posted

April 3rd, 2012

“Cry Thunder”, the new video from British epic power metallers DRAGONFORCE, can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s new album, “The Power Within”, which will be released in North America on April 17 via Roadrunner Records. The CD will be released in the U.K. on April 16 via the band’s own Electric Generation Recordings, distributed by Essential Music.

DRAGONFORCE has announced plans to return to North America for a spring tour. This outing marks the band’s first trek with brand new singer Marc Hudson, who also makes his recorded debut on “The Power Within”.

Hudson premiered his voice at a series of intimate North American shows last October. The performances were met with much praise and approval from the band’s diehard fanbase. Now the vocalist will be able to showcase his pipes to other parts of the country and beyond, where a similar reaction is expected for this talented up-and-comer with undeniable chops.

The tour kicks off April 21 at the annual New England Metal & Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Massachusetts and makes several stops on the East Coast before winding through Canada and into the Midwest before wrapping out west on May 11 in Anaheim, California. L.A.-based metal warriors HOLY GRAIL, and HUNTRESS, a five-piece metal band lead by vocalist Jill Janus, who delivers an unparalleled four-octave range thanks to her opera background, will provide support on this run.

Pre-orders for “The Power Within” are available. You can pre-order “The Power Within” bundle and receive an exclusive autographed poster and a download of the album the day before it’s available in stores.

Guitarist Herman Li recently stated about “The Power Within”, “The last two years have been the most fun we ever had making an album. Through writing, jamming and touring together, we have built this incredible energy and it has been fully captured on the new album.

“This time around we’ve really brought our metal side to the surface and made some of the best music of our career. From the fastest song we’ve ever recorded [‘Fallen World’] to the slower songs, and some things you would never expect from us, this is by far the most diverse DRAGONFORCE album yet.”

Li added, “This is an exciting new era for DRAGONFORCE with Marc joining the band, so we figured this was an ideal time to take full control of our own destiny and establish our own record label for Europe. It’s all hands on deck running it, but a great buzz!”

DRAGONFORCE @ 100 Club, London

DragonForce @ 100 Club, London

16th February 2012

Review by Ollie Thomas

Photography by Andre Purvis

London power metallers DragonForce have received a lot of stick recently for YouTube footage of their tour cycle in support of highly successful album Inhuman Rampage where less than due care and attention from roadies led to bad sound set ups, and sometimes even unturned guitars on stage waiting for them, earning them the nickname “StudioForce” after rumours they sped up their recordings and couldn’t play them.

Tonight’s intimate show at the prestigious 100 Club on London’s Oxford Street, in support of upcoming album The Power Within (Due April 15th 2012 on Essential Music in the UK and Roadrunner Records in the US) is a chance to silence many of these critics once and for all.

DragonForce Cancel Oct.18th Los Angeles Show

October 18th, 2011
Dragonforce 2011

Dragonforce 2011

Due to circumstances beyond their control, DragonForce have been forced to cancel their sold-out show at Los Angeles’ Troubadour on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The show would have been the live debut of brand new singer Marc Hudson. However, upon his arrival in LA on Saturday evening, he fell ill, contracting a virus which is preventing him from performing. Hudson made the valiant effort to try and salvage the show, consulting with a  doctor last night for the final time. He was told that there was no way he could possibly perform in his condition.

The band is incredibly frustrated to come all this way, only to be tripped at the last minute. DragonForce extends its apologies to all the LA fans they were looking forward to playing for but the situation is completely and entirely out of their control.

The band’s Toronto and New York City performances slated for later this week should go on as planned.

DRAGONFORCE Reveal New Singer

March 2nd, 2011
Dragonforce 2011

Dragonforce 2011

UK based metal heroes DRAGONFORCE have announced that their long search for a new vocalist is finally over. After entries from thousands of hopefuls across the globe, the shredmasters supreme welcome 23-year-old Marc Hudson to the band to fill the boots left by ZP Theart, who parted ways with the band in March of last year.

“I’m really excited about being a part of the DragonForce family,” said Hudson. “It’s always been my dream to dedicate my life to making music. I’m going to bring all the power and emotion I can to the songs, and help make the killer new record the fans have been waiting for!”

Born in Oxford England, Hudson was picked from the thousands of applications via a number of impressive video auditions and live performances, which left the rest of the band in no doubt that they’d found their man. Since the age of 16, Hudson has been building his vocal skills, gigging with bands in the UK underground scene, developing a powerful style with influences which include Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach.

Said founding member and guitarist Herman Li: “After almost a year of searching around the globe, it’s great to be able to finally tell our fans the good news. Marc’s expressive and melodic vocals are sounding phenomenal on the new songs, adding another dimension to the DragonForce sound that I am sure all the fans will love.”

The band has been working on a new album since early 2010, recording in various studios in California, London and the South of France. The follow up to 2008’s hugely successful Ultra Beatdown album will be highly anticipated, with top 10 and top 20 chart positions all over the world and a Grammy Nomination in the United States setting the precedent. With Hudson brought into the fold, the band is enjoying an injection of enthusiasm and hunger that sees DRAGONFORCE prepared to return more focused and determined than ever before.

“Everyone in the band is extremely excited about how the new material is shaping up.” Continued Li. “We haven’t felt this kind of energy in the band for a long time. We can’t wait to unleash the next DragonForce album later this year.”

The new album is expected to hit the shelves in September, with a full world tour to follow.

You can check out Hudson’s audition video below. The band is currently recording the follow up to 2008’s Ultra Beatdown.

Tonight’s not a night for doom and gloom, it’s a night for donning silly face paint and fake animal hair, raising your battle-axes (plastic) and your drinking horns (plastic), and rocking out with all the gusto you can manage. Yup, it’s Turisas and Dragonforce, two sold out nights at the London Astoria.
