Legendary metal maven DORO PESCH will kick off her long-awaited North American tour tonight in Tampa, Florida following an explosive performance at this year’s edition of the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise. Featuring guest appearances by Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister and Ozzy/Firewind guitarist Gus G, with artwork by British artist and longtime DORO collaborator Geoffrey Gillespie, Raise Your Fist debuted at #65 on the American Billboard Heatseekers chart upon its first week of release and was commended by Outburn in an 8/10 rating for delivering “50 minutes of expertly crafted Teutonic metal.”

Comments DORO of the long-awaited trek: “I’m so excited to tour North America again! I can’t wait to see all the great fans again and play the new songs off Raise Your Fist and of course all the songs the fans love. It’ll be a set list with the best tunes, hard and fast and lots of anthems and surprises. We’ll have some very special guests at our New York City and Los Angeles shows too and killer support from Sister Sin! I can’t wait to see you guys and wish you all the very best. Until then, raise your fist in the air and all we are will rule the ruins! I love you fuer immer! See you soon.”
Raise Your Fist is due out in the U.S. and Canada on November 6 via Nuclear Blast Records and features guest appearances by Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister as well as Ozzy/Firewind guitarist Gus G. Elaborated DORO of the release “Most important to me are the power hymns ‘Raise Your Fist In The Air’ and ‘Victory.’ Both songs have been played live on our last tour and also made last year’s Wacken Open Air shake! For the diehard fans of German songs like ‘Für Immer’ [‘Forever’], there are two songs in the same vein: the sensitive and quite dark ‘Human Rights’ and the very emotional ‘Engel’ [‘Angel’]. There are also a lot of fast songs like ‘Little Headbanger’ and various fist-pumping ones featuring amazing guests like Gus G on ‘Last Man Standing’ which fans are sure to dig live. We also have a song that honors the late Ronnie James Dio called ‘Hero’ and another highlight called ‘It Still Hurts’ featuring Lemmy. The cover artwork has once again been created by British artist Geoffrey Gillespie who is a close friend and companion since he made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for his Triumph And Agony cover as the biggest album cover in the world. Since then, he’s done ten covers for us!”

In related news, DORO was recently added to the third annual 70000 Tons Of Metal lineup. The original heavy metal cruise takes place in January 2013 and features 40 metal bands and 2,000 fans from all over the world seafaring the Caribbean on a luxury cruise ship for a 5-day/4-night ocean adventure. Sporting the biggest open air stage to sail the open seas, the world’s biggest floating heavy metal festival will include: Ensiferum, Lacuna Coil, Nile, In Flames, Immolation and more! For more info, go to THIS LOCATION. DORO was recently featured in Decibel Magazine’s August 2012 special “Women In Metal” issue. In an interview conducted by J. Bennett, DORO discusses her new Raise Your Fist record, reminisces about quitting her job in 1986 to tour with Judas Priest, what her one-year stint in a hospital years ago taught her, and the nexus of attitude and being dignified. If you missed it, you can still secure your copy HERE.
“I love Sister Sin… I’m so excited about “Rock ‘N Roll” and think it came out great, just fantastic,” commented Doro on the collaboration. See what else Doro had to say about working with SISTER SIN in a new videohere.
Hellfest arrives for its 5th edition. The French festival has been growing incredibly huge and very fast. This year it traditional location in the sport facilities of Clisson couldn’t take anymore of the mass of metalheads coming to this small part of France from all over the world.
This year’s crowd-moving, main acts where none less than Rob Zombie, Scorpions, Ozzy, and Judas Priest, with tons of other goodies in between. An excellent line-up as usual, as it’s part of the winning formula that gave success to the organizers of this event, nowadays already one of the biggest metal fests in the European summer.
The weather won’t be the most pleasant ever, but on the other hand it could have been way worse than just some strong wind and rain here and there, and the sun has been lighting the fields from time to time, still giving the impression to be in summer, after all. But as this festival is amazingly fun if you are among the beer-drinking hellraisers in the audience, you can somehow understand the “hell” part when you have to keep up with the insanely long queues to get into the photo pit, along with running all over the festival area from stage to stage, trying not to fall over some boozer laying on the ground. Oh well… running is good for your health!

In a recent interview with Canada’s XplosiveMetal.com, Germany’s Metal Queen Doro Pesch discusses the new song “Raise Your Fist” which was debuted this summer at her 22nd appearance at the Waken Open Air festival and how North American audiences will soon get to hear it.
States Doro in this interview excerpt:
“It was the first time I performed it . . . It got great feedback. It will be a killer song. I want to play it at the 2 shows in the U.S. in September. On the 9th of September at the Gramercy Theatre, we want to do a great DVD release party show and bring highlights of the DVD and do a great concert with great guests and I definitely want to play ‘Raise Your Fist’ to bring something new and exciting for the fans. At Wacken . . . we played the anthem. It was originally written by a Wacken fan, a metalhead, and then I did my own thing to it. It was actually a diehard Wacken fan who did a demo and sent it to the promoter. He sent it to me and said, ‘Hey, how about we make a Wacken anthem and here’s an idea from a diehard Wacken fan.’ I listened to it and thought, ‘Hey that’s great.’ Then we worked on it and continued working on it. Just to tell you how that song came about, it was a collaboration with a diehard fan and it was actually really good. Sometimes the fans have the best ideas. It was so dead on. I always sing it at every concert in the States too. Usually people know what Wacken is, or they went there. It is a great honor to do it. I am always happy to be there.”
DORO’s mammoth 25 Years In Rock 2 DVD/CD set – which documents her 2,500th live concert – will be available to North American fans on September 13, 2011.

When Doro “Metal Queen” Pesch flew into New York from Düsseldorf, Germany yesterday three days after Tropical Storm Irene made landfall, she encountered a heap of ruins that used to be her home.
“I saw the pictures of Irene on TV when I visited my mother in Germany on the weekend. When a red rubber raft appeared canoeing through a road on Long Island, I already assumed the worst,” Doro states mournfully. “The damage is disastrous. The whole ground floor was flooded. It stinks, electricity failed, and everything’s wrecked inside of the house. From the TV to the fridge to the furniture. Everything’s grime-stained, defective, unusable. The worst thing is that pieces of my stage costumes and lots of my souvenirs and presents from fans from all around the world are lost forever now.”
Despite the damage to her house, Doro’s previously announced concerts in conjunction with the North American release of her 25 Years In Rock 2-DVD/CD set will go ahead as scheduled.
“The shows will take place, of course,” Doro says. “For now, I’ve found accommodation in a hotel in New York and will have to see where things will go from here.”
In addition to the two special shows in New York City on September 9 and Chicago on September 11,DORO PESCH & band will be performing live at the Best Buy in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania on September 3, 2011. Sauna Open Air Festival 2011, 9th-11th June Tampere, Finland
Review by Luxi Lahtinen, live pictures by Luxi Lahtinen & Terhi Pihlaja
The 8th Sauna Open Air festival was celebrated in a very sunny and warm weather, unlike in some other years – and this year the festival also broke their own record, welcoming as many as 26,000 people within the three days.
The SOA festival has truly found an important place among the other Finnish summer festivals, concentrating mostly on old-school Heavy/Thrash Metal and Hard Rock bands – and turning the festival around for the past 3-4 years or so, by booking many internationally big names for the three-day Metal feasts; from Kiss to Megadeth to Dio to Whitesnake to Scorpions to Type O Negatíve – and the list goes on.
This year, the festival organizers had very special grins – wider than ever before, spread all over their faces – and for some very good reasons. Two of the biggest headliners, Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest, arrived at SOA for the first time, with bands like Saxon, Accept, Doro, Cavalera Conspiracy, Joey Belladonna and many others proving to be good company to them.
Read on – the following article is based on the seven most interesting and musically satisfying bands of this year’s festival from your truly point of view.
Warlock is without question one of the most prominent bands in the history of German heavy metal. Their musical journey began in the early 1980′s and came to a sudden stop in 1987, when the group’s singer, Doro Pesch, was forced to continue her career under a new moniker. This year, Metal Mind Productions are proud to present three exclusive re-releases of Warlock’s amazing albums – „Hellbound”, „True As Steel” and „Triumph and Agony”, all of which capture the sheer essence of heavy metal, delivering fast and melodic riffs, intense drumming and stunning vocal performances by one of the best female metal singers of all times!
The band was originally assembled in 1982 in Düsseldorf, Germany and featured the following line-up: Doro Pesch (vocals), Peter Szigeti (guitar), Frank Rittel (bass), Rudy Graf (guitar) and Michael Eurich (drums). In 1984, Warlock released their spectacular debut album entitled “Burning the Witches”, which brought them even more fame and recognition. In May 1985, the band released their second LP “Hellbound” via Vertigo Records. The follow-up was a significant step away from the traditional heavy metal approach which could be heard on “Burning The Witches”. This time the group focused more on incorporating elements of hard rock and power metal into their style. Nevertheless, “Hellbound” proved to be the heaviest and most intense material that Warlock has ever recorded, and probably one of the heaviest albums released in 1985 (outside of thrash metal, that is). The LP featured such highlights as “Earthshaker Rock”, “Wrathchild” and the beautiful closing ballad “Catch My Heart”. By the end of their touring period, Rudy Graf left Warlock and was soon replaced by Niko Arvanitis (ex-Stormwind). The renewed line-up signed a record deal with Phonogram for their next album. The band’s third opus “True As Steel” saw the light of day in August 1986. The LP became a big success in the US, mostly thanks to a fair amount of airplay for the single “Fight For Rock”. In terms of style, “True As Steel” showcased a bit more mainstream approach, with a greater emphasis on melodic choruses and, at times, clearly influenced by such bands as Dokken or Quiet Riot. The highlights of the LP include the powerful opener “Mr. Gold”, the speed-metal anthem “Midnite in China” and the stunning power ballad “Love Song”. Soon after the album was released, Warlock performed at the Monsters of Rock festival in Germany, next to such legendary acts as Scorpions, Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne and Bon Jovi. Next, they went on a full tour to promote the album, at the end of which bassist Frank Rittel and guitarist Peter Szigeti called it quits. They were replaced by Tommy Bolan (ex-Armed Forces) and Tommy Henriksen. Warlock’s fourth LP “Triumph and Agony” was released in September 1987. The album went even further into mainstream grounds, delivering perhaps the most cohesive material in the band’s entire career. The music video “All We Are” was often played on MTV’s “Headbanger’s Ball” and, to this day, the song remains the most successful Warlock single. Other fine cuts from the album include the crushing “I Rule the Ruins”, the rock-oriented “Metal Tango” and the touching “Für Immer” (“Forever”) with inspirational lyrics sung in German. The release was followed by the group’s first ever American tour, during which they supported Megadeth along with Sanctuary. This was followed by a series of headlining shows, with Warlock being supported by such acts as Lillian Axe or Fates Warning. Unfortunately, after the tour has ended, both Michael Eurich and Niko Arvanitis left the group, leaving Doro as the band’s sole original member. After the recruitment of drummer Bobby Rondinelli (ex-Rainbow) and guitarist Jon Levin, Doro was ready to record Warlock’s fifth LP. However, her plans were foiled by a law suit issued by the group’s ex-manager who claimed the rights for Warlock’s name. Surprisingly, he won and Doro, pressured by her record label, chose to continue her career under a new moniker. As DORO, the singer released many successful albums, the most recent being “Fear No Evil” from 2009.
In 2004, Doro reunited with the original members of Warlock for a few festival performances. Unfortunately, legal problems made it impossible for the band to continue using their original name. Warlock ceased to exist along with “Triumph and Agony”, a title which proved to be an ironic metaphor of the group’s future. Nevertheless, thanks to the exclusive re-releases of „Hellbound”, „True As Steel” and „Triumph and Agony” fans may once again revisit the golden years of Warlock – the years that brought the true quintessence of heavy metal. The albums will be available in a new digipak edition each limited to 2000 copies. Each title includes bonus tracks. Metal Mind Productions set the release date for 31st January 2011.
