A new musical force to be reckoned with is about to turn the rock world upside down with the release of their self-titled debut, KXM. KXM is comprised of dUg Pinnick of King’s X on vocals/bass, George Lynch of Lynch Mob/Dokken on guitars and Korn’s drum maestro, Ray Luzier, rounds out the powerhouse trio. The band takes its name from the combination of the member’s other projects: K from Korn, X from King’s X and M from Lynch Mob. The debut album is set for release on March 11th via Rat Pak Records. KXM is launching a pre-order today for the new release on their label’s website, http://www.RatPakRecords.com/KXM. The album, in various bundles, includes signed CD’s, CDs and t-shirts and even a phone call from a band member is available with certain purchases. The album was produced by KXM and Chris Collier, who is known for his work with Lynch Mob, Lita Ford and Tommy Bolin to name a few.

The self-titled debut of KXM is something truly unique and special. The songs are powerful, precise, and transcend beyond the boundaries of the imagination.  In today’s overpopulated music arena, true gems become harder and harder to find, but KXM’s unified vision rises above the normal and creates its own space. From the opening drum riff of “Stars” to final chord on “Human Friction,” KXM is an album that is sure to resonate with fans from the band’s original projects while garnering new ones as well. Songs like “Gun Fight,” “Faith Is A Room” and the first single “Rescue Me” are sure to be instant favorites among fans. The band shows their softer side on the ballad “Never Stop” along with their dark side on the tale of domestic violence, “Sleep.” A trailer for the album can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/KXMTrailer.

The track listing for KXM is:
1)   Stars
2)   Rescue Me
3)   Gun Fight
4)   Never Stop
5)   Faith Is A Room
6)   I’ll Be Ok
7)   Sleep
8)   Love
9)   Burn
10) Do It Now
11) Human Friction
12) Tranquilize (Bonus Track)
13) Rescue Me (Radio Edit) (Bonus Track)

KXM formed in early 2013 when dUg, George and Ray spoke about trying to jam together. At the time it wasn’t clear what would come from those jams. The only thing that was clear was that these 3 musicians, at the top of their game, wanted to play together. The self-titled debut, KXM, was born from those jam sessions and is now an important piece in each band member’s musical legacy. In a world that constantly searches for new and unique music, KXM delivers all the power and punch that one would expect from these high level players!

GEORGE LYNCH Confirms STRYPER Frontman On Board For T&N Tour in 2013

December 23rd, 2012
George Lynch

George Lynch

Legendary Rock Interviews recently caught up with guitarist GEORGE LYNCH (T&N, LYNCH MOB, ex-DOKKEN). An excerpt is available below:

LRI: Is it true that Michael Sweet of STRYPER will be the touring singer for T&N when you tour?

George: “Yeah, that was the decision we all collectively came up with, we thought he was really the right choice. Lynch Mob has done quite a few dates with Stryper and we know Michael as a man and he’s just such a wonderful guy which is important at this stage in the game. I’ve learned that lesson the hard way over the years and now it’s to the point where you just wanna work with people who want to work with you and are dedicated, honest, transparent and have a good work ethic. Michael is obviously talented, we all knew that but he is also ust a good person who has all of those qualities and architecture and is a solid guy but more importantly his voice is really suited to what we are trying to accomplish live which is to recreate the Dokken stuff faithfully. Jeff’s voice is not necessarily ideal for all of that because he has a bit of a raspier, harder edge which is better suited to the original music that T&N has done, Jeff will do some of the Dokken stuff but then Michael will come in and do some of the material that he’s better at. The other advantage we have with Michael Sweet other than him being just a great human being is that he’s a really good guitar player and really suited to playing the rhythm parts we have which is something we really need collectively in this band and for this material. There’s a lot of guitars on this record and we wanna reproduce the record faithfully. Plus, he’s not a bad lookin guy either!”

LRI: I was really hoping it was true because I am a huge fan but kind of got the feeling that Michael didn’t want me to formally announce it. His mother put it out there on Facebook (laughs). Is it formally announced? Is it alright for fans to officially plan on this?

George: “I guess we just announced it (laughs). It’s something that we held back on only because of the fact that the tour isn’t going to happen for a few months, like I said, we are going to finish this second album and then tour behind the both of them. We just have so many other touring commitments and Michael has Stryper so the timing has to be just right but we are looking to have that in place for summer of 2013.”

LRI: There are also a great many people who are under the impression that your band Lynch Mob is also over and broken up which is partially because of Robbie Crane talking about his leaving the band. The last EP was probably the best thing you’ve ever done. Is there any future for Lynch Mob?

George: “We have half a record which is just on the shelf, it’s something we’ve been working on for quite a long time and it’s beautiful and I would really hate to see the record not be heard but at this point it’s only half done and I don’t know exactly when we will be getting back together to finish it, if at all but I am hopefully optimistic (laughs). We all have a lot of other things going on though and I understand that, Robbie’s got some other project, Oni (Logan, vocalist) is doing DIO DISCIPLES, and I have two or three very heavy projects going on with the T&N thing, the movie and associated band SHADOW TRAIN which is working on the soundtrack to the movie, and then the album I am making with Doug Pinnick of KING’S X and Ray Luzier of KORN.”

Click here for the complete interview.”

T&N’s debut album, Slave To The Empire, “offers eight new original songs and four re-recorded classic Dokken songs that feature sensational vocal performances by Tim “Ripper” Owens (DIO DISCIPLES, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH), Doug Pinnick (KING’S X), Sebastian Bach (ex-SKID ROW), and Robert Owens (WARRANT). Add to the mix the hard hitting, multi-talented drumming of Brian Tichy (ex-BILLY IDOL, OZZY OSBOURNE, SLASH) and you’ve got yourself a major dose of awesome!”

“Mick, Jeff and I have been playing together for many years,” states Lynch. “When we go way back in time, we always had the most fun when we were just sitting in a room together or up on stage with the three of us playing.”

“Don’t think of this as Dokken without Don – that’s misleading,” adds Pilson. “Think of it as a band with great chemistry coming up with new music that excites them, and also paying tribute to Dokken music which the members all are heavily invested in emotionally. Don is, and will always be, the singer of Dokken and an invaluable part of the Dokken chemistry.”

Former DOKKEN Members Gearing Up For Launch Of TOOTH AND NAIL; Vocalist SEBASTIAN BACH Records Guest Vocals On Cover Of ‘Alone Again’

December 16th, 2011
Baz & Pilson

Baz & Pilson

Back in July, LYNCH MOB / ex-DOKKEN guitarist George Lynch revealed in an interview with Classic Rock Revisited that he, Jeff Pilson (bass) and Mick Brown (drums) were working on material for a new band called TOOTH AND NAIL.

Lynch: “That’s Dokken without Don. The record is called Dump The Chump.”

Still a work in progress and slated for an early 2012 release date, vocalist SEBASTIAN BACH announced via Twitter on December 15th that he had been in the studio with the band:

“Just sang the song ‘Alone Again’ for a Dokken tribute record with George Lynch and Jeff Pilson at Jeff Pilson’s studio, had a blast! I forgot how great the song is. Get ready for another ballad, because every bad boy has a soft side! Hahaha.”

Pilson detailed the project back in August. An excerpt from the interview is available below:

Pilson: “Here’s the lowdown. The Dokken reunion has been scrapped, and I take a lot of the initial responsibility for that because of my schedule and commitment to Foreigner. I was, however, up front about that from day one. We did talk, though, and I think we all thought it was going to happen somehow at some time. Then Don and George got in some nasty email fights, which I’m not really in a position to evaluate but they did get ugly and seem to put an end to further reunion thoughts. The two of them had their own business outside of the pending reunion and something just went south. For whatever reason, it was time to move on. Then George asked me about working with him on the next Lynch Mob record- and I jumped at the chance. He and I started writing, got into a groove and wrote an album’s worth of stuff, all with the intention of Oni writing lyrics and it being their next record. Brian Tichy laid down some incredible drums at his studio (and co-wrote some music on one track) and we had an incredibly strong start. Then Oni just wasn’t feeling the music as being Lynch Mob, so it was shelved.

We figured it’d be the start of another LYNCH/PILSON record some day. Then actually it was Brian who had the idea that Mick, George and I should do a band, similar to what HEAVEN & HELL was to BLACK SABBATH , and call it Tooth And Nail. Because of everything else we have going, it’ll be just a recording project at first, but sure sounds fun. We’d record the classics keeping true to the originals but make them fresh and organic. Then the idea of doing new songs came up, and it grew from there. Now I’ve been working on lyrics and melodies the last couple weeks on my laptop in hotel rooms, and I haven’t been this inspired in years. I can’t wait to get home and lay these tracks down. I have absolute belief that the music George and I make together (along with Brian Tichy in this case) is real and inspired, and that’s what it’s really all about. So out of a mess of a reunion attempt, I think we’ll end up with a really fabulous record, and what could be better than that?

But make no mistake it was NEVER intended to be a diss on Don. Don’t confuse George’s sense of humor for the attitude and energy we all have for this project. Don is, and will always be, the singer of Dokken and an invaluable part of the Dokken chemistry. No one ever wants to take that away or dispute it one iota. But the three of us do have time tested amazing chemistry, and because we were writers on these songs, I feel we have a lot to express. If anything I think this will be a show of respect for Don, not some kind of competition. I only hope people enjoy it in the spirit for which it’s intended.”

Q: The working title is Tooth And Nail. Is this Dokken without Don?

Pilson: “I think I’ve explained that. Don’t think of this as Dokken without Don… that’s misleading. Think of it as a band with great chemistry coming up with new music that excites them, and also paying tribute to Dokken – music which the members all are heavily invested in emotionally.”

Q: George has publicly stated that you already have some new songs and you plan to re-record some of the classics. George tried this once before with Robert Mason on the Lynch Mob REvolution record with mixed reviews. What will make this a really cool recording that the old fans will dig?

Pilson: “We’re not going to try and reinvent the wheel. But we plan on making them rock, and giving our all on it. Remember, these songs are a deep part of our psyches as well, regardless if we’re playing them with Dokken or not.”

Legendary Guitarist George Lynch – NEW MUSIC – “KILL ALL CONTROL”

July 21st, 2011
George Lynch

George Lynch

George Lynch is one of the most recognizable names in the world of heavy metal guitar.

With a career spanning more than thirty years, George has recorded more than twenty albums, toured the entire globe many times, and is the one of the most recognizable endorsees of the world’s finest guitars and equipment.

Born on September 28, 1954 in Spokane, WA, George Lynch began learning to play guitar at the age of 10. A naturally gifted musician, his guitar playing quickly progressed and became a creative outlet for him during his teenage years performing with several bands, most notably Sergeant Rocks.

In the late 1970s, George moved to Los Angeles, California where he formed two bands, The Boyz and Xciter. With Xciter, George’s technical abilities and unique style was a very important draw to the band’s fan base. Playing the L.A. club circuit, it was clear that he was already taking the necessary steps that would lead him to success in the 1980s and his partnership with legendary band Dokken.

When George Lynch joined Dokken in the early 1980’s, success came very quickly. As history proves, much of the band’s album sales and credibility is the result of George Lynch’s guitar abilities and songwriting. With Dokken, Lynch recorded five albums from 1983 to 1988, all of which did remarkably well in the United States, Europe and Asia. This worldwide success made George Lynch one of the most influential rock guitarists in modern music, even earning the band a Grammy nomination in 1989 for Best Rock Instrumental. 1989 was also the year the George parted ways with Dokken and began the new decade with a different approach…enter the Lynch Mob.

By the early 1990s George had become a marquee guitar hero throughout the world. As a result, working with the Lynch Mob was a highly scrutinized and anticipated project. In just three years, the Lynch Mob released two records and hit the road on two worldwide tours. After the second tour’s completion, Lynch took hiatus and retreated to the studio to craft his first solo recordings.

“Sacred Groove,” Lynch’s first solo endeavor was released in 1993. For the first time in his career, he was able to display a broader assortment of musical and guitar styles. The “Sacred Groove” album clearly established Lynch as an eclectic musician with a volume of eccentric work. Having satisfied this endeavor, George Lynch took several years off to spend time with his children and enjoy life in Arizona. That was until a call from an old friend came in 1994.

Following his departure, Dokken had reformed without the use of George Lynch, but when the record company refused to release a new Dokken record without Lynch, phone calls were made in late 1994. Lynch came in to fulfill the requests of the record company and round two with the band began. Soon to follow were two more Dokken records and three more years of touring the globe.

By 1998, Lynch finished his commitment with Dokken and set out to work with the Lynch Mob. This resulted in “Smoke This,” an album that featured a culmination of his playing styles, but with a new approach. The 1999 tour that followed brought George’s playing to a new audience and resulted in a renewed interest in the band and George Lynch’s influence. With new confidence, George began working with former Dokken band mate bassist Jeff Pilson and drummer Michael Frowein on what was to become a lengthy album titled “Wicked Underground.”

The Lynch/Pilson project grew out of song ideas that began with Michael Frowein at Lynch’s Stonehouse Studios the previous year. Jeff Pilson was always in mind to join in the completion of the songs. The collaboration proved to inspire Pilson and Lynch to completing the full-length record together. “Wicked Underground” was completed under the name LP (Lynch/Pilson) and delivered to stores in April 2003.

Also in 2003, Lynch began reworking the sound of earlier Lynch Mob and Dokken material. To complete this task, George re-assembled Mob band members, Robert Mason and Anthony Esposito, along with Michael Frowein on drums. Together, they reinvented the spirit and fire of early Lynch compositions onto an album titled, “REVolution,” which was also released in 2003. The guitar work on both “Wicked Underground” and “REVolution” demonstrated Lynch’s consistency with his signature sound while balancing a more experimental side.

At present, George Lynch has been busy in the studio and on the road. His latest solo record titled “Furious George” features a collection of songs that influenced the musician throughout his career. He is also working on a retrospective compilation titled “Lost Lynch.” The collection exhibits his natural progression and growth as a musician, guitarist and songwriter. Spanning over thirty years, “Lost Lynch” showcases his earliest recordings at age 15 to his multi-platinum successes later in his career. This collection explores some choice examples of missing links from Dokken and Lynch Mob, as well as Lynch’s later projects that have never been released to the public.

George Lynch is always evolving as a musician. And with the George Lynch guitar legacy comes remarkable business opportunities. Many musical instrument manufacturers consult with George creatively to produce equipment. As a result, many quality products bear his name.

The most notable is his endorsement with ESP Guitars. ESP has held George as their highest profiled endorser for close to 20 years. Electric guitar pickup guru Seymour Duncan has also honored George with his own signature series pickup called the “Screamin’ Demon.” Now a highly regarded standard in the guitar world, the “Screamin’ Demon” reigns as one of Seymour Duncan’s most popular items to date. Currently, Lynch and Seymour Duncan are developing the “Super V,” a new pickup initially available only in the new ESP George Lynch Super V guitar, which is slated to be unveiled at NAMM ’05. George also conceived the design for a triple amp selector switching system called the “Tripler” which is now being manufactured by Morley. American Recording Technology manufactures and distributes the George Lynch Signature guitar, patch and speaker cables. An endorsee of Dean Markley, George Lynch and the company are working on a signature string set debuting at the upcoming Winter NAMM show. In 2005, Randall Amplifiers will unveil a new George Lynch modular amp called the “Lynch Box.” Also of note, George Lynch and Robert Keeley have developed the Lynch Time Machine, a unique and powerful effect unit that is gaining a lot of interest and momentum within the guitar industry.

ONI LOGAN

INTERVIEW AND PICTURES BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

Singer-songwriter Oni Logan’s musical journey has taken him first from South America to Hollywood and later on to Switzerland, where he currently resides. Logan’s best known as the lead singer in the heavy metal band Lynch Mob, with whom he did the classic WICKED SENSATION album in 1990. Later in the mid 90’s he worked briefly with former Dio guitarist Rowan Robertson in a band called Violent Demise. The group recorded an album but it was unfortunately never released. Logan took a long hiatus from the music business before hitting back in L.A. club scene with his new band Head Set. Soon after moving his family to Europe, Oni released his first, all acoustic, solo album called STRANGER IN A FOREIGN LAND in 2005. Logan reunited with Lynch Mob in 2008 and one year later the band released its latest album SMOKE AND MIRRORS. The band started their European tour on last October and a couple of weeks later I had a chance to sit down with Oni in Sweden and discuss about his return and various other topics. Here we go!

GEORGE LYNCH – Lynch Mob, Souls of We, ex-Dokken

December 1st, 2010

GEORGE LYNCH

INTERVIEW BY MARKO SYRJÄLÄ

front.jpg

George Lynch is one of the most popular and influential guitarists to emerge from the ’80s-era heavy metal/hard rock scene.  Lynch is best known for his work with platinum sellers Dokken whose albums UNDER LOCK AND KEY and BACK FOR THE ATTACK went to platinum in the mid 80’s. In 1988 Don Dokken and Lynch found it impossible to continue in the same band together and as a result the band broke up. Don Dokken decided to start his solo career whereas Lynch decided to form a new band called Lynch Mob. Joining Lynch in the new outfit was singer Oni Logan, bassist Anthony Esposito, and former Dokken colleague Mick Brown. The band issued their debut album, WICKED SENSATION, in 1990. WICKED SENSATION became another milestone in Lynch’s career and it did went gold in States with over 500 000 copies sold.  The sophomore album LYNCH MOB presented a new lead singer Robert Mason and it was released in 1992.  The second album failed to reach its predecessors success and soon band was disbanded. Lynch released a solo album called SACRED GROOVE in 1993 with various famous guests including Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen and Mandy Lion before rejoining Dokken in 1994.  The reunited band released two studio albums: DYSFUNCTIONAL and SHADOWLIFE before Lynch decided to leave again. The late ’90s/early 21st century saw Lynch alternate between issuing albums with the Lynch Mob (with varying members) and as a solo artist resulting in such further titles as 1999’s SMOKE THIS, 2003’s WICKED UNDERGROUND and FURIOUS GEORGE in 2004. In 2010 it was officially announced that Oni Logan and Lynch will rejoin their forces again and as a result SMOKE AND MIRRORS was released in 2009. The world followed and in late 2010 the renewed band; Lynch, Logan, bassist Robbie Crane and drummer Brian Tichy finally arrived in Scandinavia. In Gothenburg in Sweden I had chance to sit down Mr. Lynch himself and talk about various topics including the reunion with Logan, Souls of We,  the past as well as a possible Dokken reunion… read on…

GREG SMITH – Over the Rainbow, Ted Nugent, ex- Alice Cooper, Rainbow

August 3rd, 2009

DSC_0295.JPG

GREG SMITH

Current OVER THE RAINBOW/TED NUGENT bassist Greg Smith started his successful career in the early eighties when he first joined WENDY O’WILLIAMS’s recording and touring band. Later on he worked with such names as VINNIE MOORE, ALICE COOPER and JOE LYNN TURNER before he was asked to join to the very last incarnation of Ritchie Blackmore’s RAINBOW in 1994. Greg recorded RAINBOW’s last studio album STRANGER IN US ALL in 1995 with Ritchie, vocalist Doogie White, drummer John O’Reilly and keyboardist Paul Morris but after a couple of years the band disbanded. Later on Greg worked with BLUE OYSTER CULT, re-joined ALICE COOPER’s band before he decided to do something different, a Broadway musical called “Movin’ Out”. Next it was TED NUGENT who asked Greg to join his band and in addition to that Greg has lately been doing shows with DOKKEN, JOE LYNN TURNER and now with OVER THE RAINBOW.  OVER THE RAINBOW is a brand new band, formed by a group of former RAINBOW members:  Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Carey, Bobby Rondinelli, Greg and Richie Blackmore’s son Jurgen Blackmore on guitar.  OVER THE RAINBOW was playing at Swedenrock last June and then Greg was kind enough to give us the latest news as well as some other interesting stories about his past and future. South Texas Rock Fest 2008

July 14th, 2008

With the recent resurgence in popularity of outdoor summer hard rock festivals such as Rocklahoma and the upcoming Rock On The Bayou fest that harken back to the glory days of the famed 80’s Monsters Of Rock festival, the Lonestar state, not to be outdone by our Okie counterparts, offered up the first annual Nikita Productions Presents: South Texas Rock Fest.

Boasting an almost identical roster of artists as the Rocklahoma lineup, such as Queensryche, Skid Row, Faster Pussycat, Dokken, Tesla, and even Texas favorites Helstar, bands ping ponged back and forth over the course of the weekend, shuttling from Texas to Oklahoma and vice versa.

Garnering media attention from Sirius Satellite Radio, XM’s Boneyard and sponsorship from Miller Lite beer and Harley Davidson motorcycles, the weekend long festival went off without a hitch. The only real complaint would’ve been the grueling Texas heat. Saturday afternoon there was not a cloud to be found in the summer sky, and it made the "all you can hear buffet of buttrawk" seemingly "Hotter Than Hell" but would you really want to hear Y&T play "Summertime Girls" in the rain?

Divided up between two stages and hosted on the Javelina Harley Davidson fairgrounds, vendors served up ice cold Miller Lite products to the estimated capacity crowd of 20,000 strong. Also of note, where as the Rocklahoma crowd could only enjoy 3% beer to their heart’s content, us Texan’s relished in the full strength domestic beer. This was a major concern when choosing which festival to cover. Besides beer, fans could enjoy frozen margaritas’s, fajita’s, burgers, shop for glass blown pipes, rock t-shirts and various other symbolic mementos of a gluttonous good time.
