DIAMOND HEAD Announce North American Tour

August 8th, 2017

Few metal bands have been as influential and have had the longevity as Diamond Head – listed as a major influence by two of metal’s biggest, Metallica and Megadeth. Led by co-founding member/guitarist Brian Tatler, Diamond Head will be launching a North American tour that will include both US and Canadian dates, beginning on August 19th with Psycho Las Vegas festival appearance and ending on September 11th at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, New York.

“We are excited to get back to North America and see our old friends once more,” says Tatler and Wilcox (who resides in the US).

“Diamond Head may not have toured the continent as much as we would have liked way back when, but we are certainly making up for it now! And the band sounds better than ever,” states Brian.

As part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s, Diamond Head came up in the same scene as eventual global headliners Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. And while Diamond Head did not achieve the same commercial success as the aforementioned bands, they did influence countless subsequent musicians – especially Metallica, as it was a then-teenaged Lars Ulrich that befriended the band early on and became a major fan. Subsequently, Metallica has covered such Diamond Head classics as “Am I Evil,” “Helpless,” “The Prince,” and “It’s Electric” multiple times – on multiple platinum releases.

In addition to performing these classics at their upcoming U.S. shows, expect to also hear material performed off their latest release – 2016’s self-titled offering.
There is a new Diamond Head album already in the works (set for release next year).

Soon, many North American headbangers will get their chance to see the legendary Diamond Head and hear the songs that inspired a generation of musicians on a nearby concert stage.

DIAMOND HEAD Announce New Vocalist And New Album

January 6th, 2016

DiamondHead2016

Influential and iconic heavy metal band Diamond Head have announced their first album of new material in eight years. Entitled “DIAMOND HEAD,” the album features an exciting new talent in singer Rasmus Bom Andersen.

In 2014 Diamond Head invited London based, Danish-born Ras to join the band. Together they completed a European tour, which included appearances at Hard Rock Hell and Head bangers Open Air in Germany.

The spark of creativity led the band to start working on the new album in January 2015. Brian Tatler, founder of Diamond Head, said: “When we began talking with Ras about making a new record he said we should write the songs as a band just like Diamond Head did at the beginning of our career. There’s no substitute for writing together in the same room, we spark each other off and create something far bigger than we could have done individually”.

Brian continued, “Ras has certainly renewed the energy within the band. I had no interest in doing another record but after working with Ras on the European tour that all suddenly changed. I wanted to make a record with him. He’s a confident singer and he’s not trying to fill anyone’s shoes”.

Brian Tatler joined members of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer & Anthrax at the UK’s Sonisphere Festival in 2011, performing Diamond Head’s classic song, ‘AM I EVIL?’ Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich addressed the crowd, saying: “If it wasn’t for Brian Tatler there’s a pretty good fucking chance none of us would be here tonight. Would you give it up for Brian Tatler one more time?”

Speaking about this event, Brian said: “It was great. A nod towards Diamond Head to say, ‘Respect. You’re an important band. You might not have sold millions of records, but you’re an influential band.’ And it’s nice to be influential”. Brian continued, “But equally if it wasn’t for Metallica, then Diamond Head would not have had this second wind”

Speaking about the new album, Brian said: “This new album has an echo of the early albums but I always try to push our music forward somewhere new if possible” Ras adds: “All in all this album was made with the band’s first fans foremost in mind from start to finish. We wanted to write songs that would have ties to the best parts of the all the previous albums. We feel we have achieved what we set out to do and we hope everyone will hear and feel the Diamond Head spirit through this new eponymous record.”

In general the album lyrics focus on political and environmental themes, specifically warning that our world is in many ways leaning towards self-destruction. The opening and closing songs encapsulate these themes, while the body of the album explores subtopics in more depth, along with songs dealing with lighter subjects that aren’t so heavy on the heart.

Diamond Head are a hugely influential Heavy Metal band. They have toured with Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC & Europe and have opened for Metallica on many occasions.

Heavy TO

Heavy T.O.

July 23-24, 2011

Review and pics by Monika Deviat

On July 23rd and 24th, 10 000 metalheads descended upon Downsview Park in Toronto ON for Heavy T.O. The two day festival took place the same weekend as Heavy MTL. This was the third year for Heavy MTL and its success from right from the first year prompted MTL organizers Daniel Glick and Nick Farkas to team up with Live Nation to create Heavy T.O. Two stages had bands playing right after each other, about 11 per day. Heavy T.O. sponsor, Jägermeister had a tent area set up with games and were hosting some of the autograph sessions. Certain bands like Megadeth and Slayer had line-ups of over a hundred people waiting to get signatures from their favorite musicians.

Megadeth in Stockholm, Sweden

Feb 15th, 2005

Review by Marko Syrjala and Jarno Huovila

In 2004, just as the sparkle of hope glowed dim, Dave Mustaine struck back with the excellent new album ‘The System Has Failed’, which especially after the less than stellar ‘The World Needs A Hero’ release, was a most welcome return to the high standard of song writing that we’ve come to expect from Dave. After the album release Mustaine surprisingly announced that the forth coming tour will be definitely be their last ever. Now they are now midst of their farewell tour called "Blackmail The Universe" and we were lucky to witness bands brilliant performance in Stockholm.
