Camden, by and large, is always alive and bustling with people but it’s testament to a gig’s lineup when a stranger has to ask what the vast, winding queue delivering hundreds more people to the North London town is for! Well sir, DevilDriver have rolled into town alongside Bleed From Within and Sylosis on their “Winter Kills” tour, so we’re about to enjoy an evening of metal.

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2013

Bloodstock Open Air 2013

@ Catton Park, Derbyshire, UK

8th – 11th August 2013

Review by Anna Dumpe & Ben Spencer

Imagine a weekend of nothing but pure heavy fucking metal.
Imagine being surrounded by the friendliest 15,000 people who share the same passion for heavy metal music and lifestyle. Imagine a place where it is respectable to have beer for breakfast and drinking until you drop in an accomplishment. Imagine a festival where you can see over 100 heavy metal bands and pretty much none of them suck.

Ladies and gents, this ain’t no heavy metal fairytale!

This is Bloodstock Open Air – the greatest heavy metal music festival of our times. It’s a place where metal heads run free, headbang until their heads roll off, shout ‘SLAYEEER!’ and avoid shower for 4 days straight.
It just does not get any better than this.

Our Metal-Rules.com UK team were privileged to attend Bloodstock Open Air 2013 and see things for themselves…here’s a ‘little’ insight of what went down.

Metal Alliance Tour – March 30th 2012, Edmonton, Canada

May 22nd, 2012

Metal Alliance Tour

March 30th 2012, Edmonton, Canada

Edmonton Events Center

Review and pics by Monika Deviat

On March 30th 2012 the Metal Alliance Tour stopped in Edmonton Alta., at the Edmonton Events Center. With seven touring bands and a local band getting the opening spot after winning a contest put on by Concert Works in Edmonton, you knew the sets were going to go by fast. The venue filled up right after doors open and there were line ups for the merch booth that lasted most of the evening. We were also informed we only had the first three minutes to get some photos so we did our best at being ninja photographers. Unfortunately, a lot of the bands had some pretty dim stage lighting. The sound, as well as the pit, were broken up by pillars spaced throughout the middle of the venue.

DEVILDRIVER guitarists Are Giving Away A Signed Blackstar Series One 100 Amplifier

Having launched the guitar-based web site www.AllAxess.com, DEVILDRIVER guitarists Mike Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick, are currently running a competition. By signing up for both the All Axess website and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/allaxess (one entry for each website), you will be entered in the draw to win a “Blackstar Series One 100” amplifier (valued at $1400) signed by the DevilDriver guitarists.

All Axess launches new videos each week by guitarists of various bands which teach you how to play their songs the way they were meant to be played. They include exclusive videos of DevilDriver guitarists Mike Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick, teaching you how to play songs such as “Clouds over California”, “Hold Back the Day”, and “I Could Care Less”. Most recently they filmed Misha Mansoor and Alex Bois of Periphery giving a rundown of their guitar rig, which was filmed before their show in London.

All Axess is owned and operated by Mike Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick of DevilDriver. The website will focus on instructional videos from professional guitarists and will have an emphasis on learning the songs that made the guitarists well known and taught by them. The page will also contain a biographical database of many of the worlds best known guitar players as well as future blogs on the science of guitar playing and a celebrity blog focusing on celebrities discussing guitars and guitar playing.

DevilDriver Vocalist Dez Fafara

September 27th, 2007

Interview & All Live Photos By Lord of The Wasteland; Promo Pics Courtesy of Roadrunner Records

Transcription By Claudia

Many readers’ first exposure to Dez Fafara may have been in the late nineties when he was fronting nu-metal band Coal Chamber but after that group disbanded in 2002, Fafara ventured out on his own with his new group, DevilDriver.  On their just-released third album, THE LAST KIND WORDS, DevilDriver combine heavy grooves with dark lyrics and some impressive guitar melodies that have sprung up here and, to a lesser extent, on 2004’s THE FURY OF OUR MAKER’S HAND.

A few hours before the band was scheduled to hit the stage for the Hartford, Connecticut stop of Ozzfest 2007, I spoke to Fafara about THE LAST KIND WORDS, the merits of the Hammond B3 organ, turning forty, spirituality and kicking the ass of Venom singer, Cronos.
