70000 tons Of Metal is the biggest heavy metal cruise on the planet. It has gained and created a loyal and fanatical following amongst metal fans around the globe in a short few years. Even though there were a lot of discussions, and even some outrage on the official 70000tons forum and social media, about the long silence while waiting to hear about the booking of the bands. However, the whole cruise was a surrealistic experience for journalists and fans alike. Spirits were not dampened by a rainy day which whipped the Caribbean sea and the ship, Majesty Of The Seas, about.  The metallic mayhem on the sea sailed from Miami, Florida to Costa Maya, Mexico and back. Here is the brief write-up of all these bands who appeared on the ship.

Children of Bodom with Tyr and Death Angel House of Blues Hollywood March 1, 2014 Halo of Blood over North America tour 2014
When I heard that Children of Bodom, Death Angel, and Týr were touring together, I was stoked. What a dream line-up! I saw them on a Saturday night at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip, and the show was even more awesome that I imagined it would be. And I knew it was going to be awesome, so that’s saying quite a bit. Read the rest of this entry »

@ Catton Park, Derbyshire, UK

8th – 11th August 2013

Review by Anna Dumpe & Ben Spencer

Photography by Michelle Murphy

Imagine a weekend of nothing but pure heavy fucking metal.
Imagine being surrounded by the friendliest 15,000 people who share the same passion for heavy metal music and lifestyle. Imagine a place where it is respectable to have beer for breakfast and drinking until you drop in an accomplishment. Imagine a festival where you can see over 100 heavy metal bands and pretty much none of them suck.

Ladies and gents, this ain’t no heavy metal fairytale!

This is Bloodstock Open Air – the greatest heavy metal music festival of our times. It’s a place where metal heads run free, headbang until their heads roll off, shout ‘SLAYEEER!’ and avoid shower for 4 days straight.
It just does not get any better than this.

Our Metal-Rules.com UK team were privileged to attend Bloodstock Open Air 2013 and see things for themselves…here’s a ‘little’ insight of what went down.

Death Angel

Legendary Bay Area thrash metallers DEATH ANGEL will enter AudioHammer Studios next month to begin recording the follow up to their 2010 release, Relentless Retribution. Guitarist Rob Cavestany recently checked in to give the following update:

“After nearly 3 years of nonstop touring for Relentless Retribution, we are about to enter the studio to record our seventh album! We are playing the final show of the Relentless Retribution Tour on March 31 in Holland, fly home for a few days of final pre-production rehearsals in Oakland, then begin tracking in Florida on April 8.

Relentless turned out the way we wanted so we we’re taking it to the next level with the same team. The new album will be done at AudioHammer Studios with Jason Suecof and I producing. We had a blast doing the last record there and now we know each other better and how well we work together… plus the album cover art is being done by Brent Elliot White who did Relentless Retribution. Anthrax / Testament / Death Angel: House of Blues, Atlantic City: October 6, 2012

Anthrax / Testament / Death Angel

House of Blues, Atlantic City

October 6, 2012

Review and pics by Infamousbutcher

Old school thrash metallers rejoice – this is a fucking great time to be a metalhead! ‘80s thrash metal is having a bit of a second renaissance now, with Big 4, the return of Joey Belladonna, Alex Skolnick, and David Ellefson to Anthrax, Testament, and Megadeth respectively, and new albums from each of these bands. This time last year, Anthrax announced they would be touring with Testament and Death Angel to support their new album, WORSHIP MUSIC. Back in 1987, Anthrax took Testament on their first European tour, so this 2011 – 2012 US tour was flashback to that classic time period. The Anthrax / Testament / Death Angel tour was so successful they added a second leg and a third leg. Tonight’s show in Atlantic City, NJ is the final show of the third leg. This is the last time to catch these thrash legends on the same bill.

September 21, 2012

MacEwan Hall, Calgary, Alberta

Review by JP and Monika

On September 21, 2012 a great triple bill of thrash veterans had fans’ anticipation high and tickets selling so well, that the gig was moved to a larger venue. On a hot Friday night in Calgary, Alta., Anthrax, Testament and Death Angel took over MacEwan Hall. The venue usually hosts all-ages shows but this time the show remained an 18+ event and the milling crowd appreciated still being able to have their beers and enjoy the concert.

Having missed Death Angel on their last trip to these shores, I couldn’t wait to see them again (Last time was in the much smaller confines of Brighton’s own Engine Rooms) as well as hearing the upon announcement of this tour that the band would be playing the much lauded thrash classic that is their 1987 debut, “The Ultra-Violence” in its entirety to mark the 25th anniversary of its release.
