Melodic death metal pioneers DARK TRANQUILLITY will release their much-anticipated 10th studio album, Construct, on May 27th in Europe and on May 28th in North America via Century Media Records. To get your first preview of Construct, click the link below to hear the album track, “For Broken Words”:
20 years ago, DARK TRANQUILLITY released their first album and till this day, D.T. is considered one of the most viable and important bands within the scene they helped define. Melodic death metal fans from across the word will be ecstatic to learn that their 10th full length, entitled Construct, will be released on May 27th in Europe and May 28th in North America. The band is now ready to reveal the track-listing as well as the cover art, which perfectly catches the spirit of the new masterpiece by one of Gothenburg’s finest. Construct will also feature artwork throughout by the band’s own guitarist, Niklas Sundin.
DARK TRANQUILLITY has this to say about Construct:
“The selected few people that so far have been granted the privilege of hearing the full album are uniformingly convinced that ‘Construct’ is the strongest and most exciting D.T. album in a long time, and who are we to disagree? While still bearing the unmistakable mark of the dark tranquillity, the record is probably our most different and diverse offering since 1999′s ‘Projector’. For now, we’re pleased to share the track-list, trailer and sleeve design with you, but the first musical preview will appear in the near future.”
Shortly before beginning the studio session for their upcoming 10th studio album, Construct, DARK TRANQUILLITY amicably parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson.
This decision has been growing for awhile, and the main reason is that Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects, as well as work more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion.
With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities.
We thank Daniel for his years in the band – filled with great shows, amazing memories, and experiences in all corners of the world – and wish him all the best with his future musical career.
Daniel’s statement:
“I want to thank the guys in DARK TRANQUILLITY and the amazing D.T. fans around the world for the last four years of touring around the globe! It´s been awesome! Also a huge hug to the DT crew and all of the people working with us. I will miss you all very much! You are like family to me and I hope we will meet again soon!
But…now is the time for me to follow my heart and again focus on my guitar playing and being a recording engineer/producer in my studio, Gothenburg Rock Studios. We will meet again on the road or in the studio – that’s for sure!
Stay tuned for updates about the band’s new bassist and look forward to DARK TRANQUILLITY’s new album, Construct, due out May 27th in Europe and May 28th in North America!

Sweden’s DARK TRANQUILLITY have just announced the cancellation of their upcoming European tour. The band comments: It is with great frustration that we have to announce the cancellation of our participation in the planned European tour “Metal Attack Over Europe.
The reasons are several. The main tour promoter has failed in making the necessary practical and logistical arrangements needed for the tour to happen. Due to the lack of reliable information and substandard promotion, ticket sales have been surprisingly low. We can’t just embark on a one-month, five-band trek risking to be met by closed venues or not being 100% sure that the necessary arrangements for the shows even to happen are in place. The fact that Warbringer had to cancel didn’t help the situation.
We understand that many people will be disappointed, and so are we. Rest assured that our booking agent has been doing his outmost to save the tour and try to sort things out, but the sad reality is that we’re left with no choice but to cancel. We are truly sorry about this situation.

DARK TRANQUILLITY is currently working on their 10th studio album, tentatively set for a summer 2013 release via Century Media Records. Stay tuned for more news about DARK TRANQUILLITY coming soon!
Century Media Records has renewed their deal for the 3rd time with Swedish melodic death metal legends, DARK TRANQUILLITY. This influential band from Gothenburg released their first album on Century Media Records in 1999, and since then has released 6 albums, plus 2 DVDs and a handful of special releases.
Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R at Century Media Europe comments: “I start to believe in Numerology. 13 years ago, DARK TRANQUILLITY signed their first contract with Century Media Records. Friday the 13th of April, I met Mikael Stanne and Niklas Sundin for the Roadburn festival at the lovely 013 venue in Tilburg to receive the signed copies of their 3rd Century Media contract for 3 more albums. The 3 of us had about 13 beers to celebrate it. It’s amazing how DARK TRANQUILLITY are able to express their legacy as one of the original godfathers of the melodic death metal/Gothenburg sound without sounding outdated today. They always managed to stick to their roots and develop to new heights at the same time. Looking forward to the next album in 2013. Cheers!”
The band comments: “After such a long history together, we’re more confident than ever that Century media is the perfect working partner for DARK TRANQUILLITY. In a climate where a lot of record labels are weighed down by cynicism or have just plain given up in the face of the rapidly changing industry climate, Century media are still enthusiastic and forward thinking and take huge pride in releasing great music that matters. Here’s to another 13 years!”
A musical phenomenon born back in the early 90′s, Swedish melodic death metal has had a huge impact on all kinds of modern heavy music, and along with country mates IN FLAMES and AT THE GATES, Gothenburg’s DARK TRANQUILLITY (founded in 1989) have defined the genre like no one else. With a unique sense for combining catchy, hard hitting metal with daring progressive elements, they have developed a trademark sound hailed by fans and critics alike, and have built a worldwide army of loyal supporters over the past 20 years! The last album, We Are The Void, came out in early 2010, followed by extensive US touring and one of their most successful European headlining tours with their label mates INSOMNIUM in late 2010.
DARK TRANQUILLITY is proud to present their new music video, “In My Absence”! Taken from their latest release, We Are The Void (2010), “In My Absence” is the band’s fifth promo clip for the album, and it was filmed by the band themselves on the road, with guitarist Niklas Sundin (www.cabinfevermedia.com / www.adurolabs.se) taking care of the editing/post production duties. Additional live footage was provided by Anders Björler (THE HAUNTED, AT THE GATES) and Nikolas Pegler. Click the link below to check out this new video from DARK TRANQUILLITY:
In regards to this video, Niklas Sundin comments: “I wanted to create a live video that would capture the energy of our show both from the audience’s perspective as well as from the stage. To accomplish this, we headed out on our recent Europe/Russia tours equipped with a GoPro HD camera, which was mounted on various objects (guitar necks, vocal microphone, member’s bodies etc.) on most of the shows. Despite probably looking pretty weird for those in the crowd that noticed the little device, we arrived home with a lot of interesting footage, and after a lot of editing we’re happy to present the final result: A clip for ‘In My Absence’, filled with an energy and closeness out of the ordinary. Enjoy!”
DARK TRANQUILLITY, the unstoppable metal machine from Gothenburg, Sweden, has already played over 160 shows all over the world in support of We Are The Void, and the band continues to tour, heading to exotic locations such as China, Japan, South Korea, Israel, and Turkey, as well as appearing at European summer festivals in the upcoming months. In fall 2012, they will take a break to focus on a new album.

The end of a great if tiring week for metal in London, with Primordial, Obituary, Municipal Waste and Behemoth already having paid a visit to the Big Smoke, it’s now Dark Tranquillity’s turn. The very last date of the Great British Fiction Tour, the Swedes were supposed to have been supported by English thrashers Evile and Finnish melodic death band Omnium Gatherum, but Evile cancelled. There’s no mention even of the cancellation itself on the band’s website, let alone the reason, and people either found out from Omnium Gatherum’s website, or at the gig itself. Highly discourteous. Perhaps Evile were too over the moon to be touring with Megadeth later this month.
Sauna Open Air Metal Festival 2007 entertained approximately 22,000 metal warriors within 3 hot and sunny days. Almost 10,000 people appeared on Saturday, 8th of June, which was undoubtedly the biggest day of the festival thanks to both Dimmu Borgir´s and Type O Negative´s attendance. The Sauna Open Air Metal Festival opened its gates for metalheads for the 4th time in the whole history of this well-organized festival. The settings were probably the best so far for a great, all-aged, metallic event. At least the four main headlining acts that were booked to Sauna 2007 – Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Type O Negative and Heaven & Hell – placed four unbeatable aces on the table. It seemed that the impossible had a splendid chance to become possible… and that´s – what I believe, happened eventually.
Two curiosities – and let’s even say, somewhat relatively experienced reporters from Metal-Rules.com – crept through the gates of Sauna Open Air Metal Festival, and the following honest observations were made on the happenings during this metallic feast…

With a career that spans 18 years and 8 studio albums, Dark Tranquillity are veterans in their field. Far from retired this legendary act has continued to push their own boundaries without ever straying from their original sound. Their latest album FICTION is it another fine release and an album that you should add to your collection – that is, if haven’t already done so. I had the opportunity to catch up with vocalist Mikael Stanne and together we discussed, amongst other things, the creative process behind the new album as well as what it’s like to be a musician in Dark Tranquillity.
