CHTHONIC DETAILS COVER ARTWORK FOR UPCOMING SEVENTH STUDIO ALBUM

March 19th, 2013

New mobile app game “CHTHONIC – Rhythm Crusher” now available via iTunes Store

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – As the new album from Taiwanese extreme metal band, Chthonic, undergoes mixing at Sweet Spot studio in Sweden, the work on the album’s cover has also begun in Taiwan. After nearly 100 hopeful candidates replied to a casting call, which called for girls who were “at least 160cm tall, skinny, with light skin, and are ok with full-body painting,” Chthonic bassist Doris Yeh and the art design team decided on Bu to represent the album’s cover girl.

“It’s certainly not an easy job for ancient Chinese emperors to choose their wives,” said Yeh jokingly after several sleepless nights of deliberation. “I was even looking through the pictures in my dreams!” Read the rest of this entry »

ARCH ENEMY @ Shepherd’s Bush Empire

December 28th, 2011

Arch Enemy @ Shepherd’s Bush Empire with Chthonic and Warbringer

6th  December 2011

Review by James Griffiths

Photography by Graham Hilling

It’s a very cold Tuesday night in Sheppard’s Bush but that hasn’t deterred the army of metallers queuing up outside of the Sheppard’s Bush Empire well over an hour before the doors open. Personally, I found it much easier to plant myself in the pub next door where its warm and cosy and can drink a few beers before the bands start!

7:30pm and the doors have opened and the queue diminishes very fast and the venue soon begins to fill out just in time for tonight’s first band.

CHTHONIC & EVILE, Shrapnel @ Underworld, London

CHTHONIC & EVILE, Shrapnel @ Underworld, London

Friday 18th March 2011

Review: Jo Blackened

On arrival to the Underworld it wasn’t surprising seeing the queue going down the street & right around the corner of the venue. There was a great energy outside tonight and after a slight delay with opening time, you could feel everyone’s anticipation in getting in and hitting the bar!

I wasn’t sure how tonight was going to go, seeing two thrash metal bands supporting a symphonic black metal band, but I am pleased to say it worked for tonight’s gig.

Interview and words by HannTu

Chthonic are in the unique position of being one of the most easily recognisable bands in the world of metal, in spite of (or possible by virtue of) being from the metal wastelands of Taiwan. Backed by a major label (Spinefarm Records), the band has taken their fascinating brand of Far Eastern black metal, their image and their country of origin on tour with them, bulldozing stages the world over with aplomb. However, in their own country, they are extremely outspoken and active on the subject of politics, especially where their country’s fraught relationship with the People’s Republic of China is concerned. Here, I speak to bassist Doris Yeh by email, who was recently in London to do some publicity work for the band’s latest album, MIRROR OF RETRIBUTION (incidentally, the lovely Doris was on the cover of the January edition of GQ Taiwan).

Wacken 2007

October 9th, 2007

Wacken Open Air 2007

Wacken is a blessed mecca of the whole metal world. Again this year it was entirely sold out when ten thousands of metal manics travelled from all around the world to gather and witness plenty of ass kicking bands. The weather forecast for Wacken didn’t look that promising. The chaotic and muddy mess caused by long and heavy rains rampaged the ground during the whole summer. The  festival often provides a survival test to every visitor with its mud and crap. But but gods of metal had seen the light and blessed the whole three day metal inferno with tremendous extreme heat and a sunny weekend. Things could not be better…sun, metal and beer. That combination is nothing but an utter perfect way to enjoy the metallic mayhem at Wacken.

As usual, the true metal commando team from Metal-Rules.Com was there again witnessing a helluva lot of great bands and above all an unexpected huge fire in the main area. Feel, see and enjoy this article.
